This was really relaxing watching/listening to in the background. I love hearing people talking about their color pencil collections and their thoughts on them! I'm not very fond of the Castle Arts brand because they just seem very expensive for the quality, which is sad because I love the name "castle arts" 😭 Their pastel pencil tin is also so pretty, but I can't justify buying a set for a TIN of all things...
I've always been interested in the black widow pencils, but I always got confused what each of their sets mean and they don't have an option to buy them all together, so I was put off by that.
I probably bought the cheapest pastel color pencils out there from an American retail store called Five Below. They were a set of 45 pastels for $5 and they were... well you get what you pay for, but I really liked the colors and they seem like they'd go nicely with my crayola color pencils, so I'm happy with them. When I'm finished with them, I'm really interested in the Brutfuner Macaron set, but again only until after I finish up the pastels I do have or else I'll have no space for them
The brutfuner macaroni are a nice pencil they are pastel colours not actually pastels though.....yes I love watching people's colour pencil collections too just to see how people find their pencils can be fascinating.....and I am definitely a pencil fanatic lol

As an amateur colourist, I am a little surprised on some missing sets. I use Derwent Coloursoft mixed with Derwent Pro-colour 😘👌a lot (they are a beautifully complementary palette) and they love the Johanna Basford books. I also love Mitsubishi Uni 100 set in Hanna Karlzon. Also, Holbein’s work amazingly well on the Blue Angel paper (wildflower folk & the JB-K books).

And for watercolor pencils, I suggest getting the Caran d'Ache palette instead of coloring directly on the paper.

🍓Love, love, love, these kind of videos!!! I to have most of the pencils that you have, not all but most. I have found that if I want one of the more expensive professional brands I just put aside
a certain amount every month until I have enough. Then with great excitement I order them and with little patience I wait for their arrival. This is definitely one of the fun parts of this hobby🙂🍓🍓🍓🤗

Procolour - I’m still here. I really love the colours and they work very nicely on Christine Karon paper. They will layer many, many times for a light handed colourist like you in those books.

i am crazy enough to have watched this twice, strawberries where eaten while watching this time ;) felt very fitting xD i just find it very informative. Also i am currently wondering if i should just go for expensive or buy more brutfuners cus love the squares and the macaron set looks like a lovely addition to that since they dont have a lot of lighter colours.. But i never want as big of a pencil collection as this xD I have more of the expensive pens currently slowly collecting some open stock, but i dont wanna feel like i am wasting them while practiceing cus i am a beginner and useing rly expensive pens just feels like a lot of pressure before you even put down the pen to paper, everytime you sharpen your like oh thats another few coins gone xD

For so long, I only had Crayola, but my purchase of Prismacolour, has started my obsession to know which set works better on what paper/technique.

Try TK Maxx (or whatever it is in the US) for the Derwent Colourblend, I got the whole range from there not too long ago! (I’m in the UK)
I m in the UK too Hun......I do keep an eye on tk maxx sometimes I managed to get my kingart from there I think ....but the one local to me never has much coloring stuff.....gutted lol
@@emmacolours I’m in Liverpool and often find lots of Derwent stuff in the 6 local TK Maxx shops or if you have a Range shop near you they sell Derwent products too, the Range has a big big range of art products, far more than any TK Maxx anywhere.

I really like the Irojiten yellow color, Dandelion! I have tried to find a match for it in other collections, but so far have not found any yellow to come close enough. So, I bought a number of extra ones open stock on Blick Art Supplies. The cherry red in the Irojiten is quite a pure red, too. I am part collector/part user with emphasis on the user part. :) I really like strawberries and June is strawberry month here in the States. Only once in my life I picked strawberries at a farm with my sister-in-law and my niece. I was just a young girl then, a fond memory! It is hard for me to pick a favorite color pencil from my collection, I rotate them, too.

So I kind of hesitated to watch the video since I have to admit I am kind of a pencil collector too, but I am trying to stop as I do not have enough room to keep collecting. So I was worried I see something I really like. I do have a lot of the sets you do ( and some that you don't) and a lot of your impressions were similar to mine so at some point I might get Arrtx, but hopefully I' ll talk myself out of it. Anyway, a great collection and I found your info on various pencils with various papers very useful so thank you for that...

I thought I was the only person with multiple sets of color pencils. I don't own the highly priced sets like polychromous or the illuminate...definitely not the holbines. I have most of the other sets plus ones you did not mention such as the color it and Amazon basics(not too bad). My favorites are the brutfuner squares and the two prismacolor types...the one group(thin) being discontinued. The most expensive pencils I bought were the Derwent inktense which I use with water. I'm not a colorist but draw patterns and mandalas in ink then color with different pens watercolor or color pencils. I acquired the Artix pencils recently and will use them soon. I think now I'll start saving for the Caran Dache , Faber Castel, Derwent and Holbein sets.😉

Appreciate seeing your pencil stash. I have the Procolours. I bought them early in my coloring journey, having only used Prismas. I nearly lost my mind trying to figure out how to use them. I’ve grown quite fond of them over time. I bought a set of Coloursofts, and I use the 2 sets together. They should not work together-but they do. They will layer seemingly forever. And, oddly enough, they like the Amazon paper of R. J. Hampson! I’ve subscribed to your channel. Hope to learn a lot. Thanks from Washington State, USA.

My favourites after using Brutfuner squares and Arteza, now have become evazar and Arrtx. Others I just enjoy watching yourself and others use them. Thank you so much for sharing.

A really interesting video. Strawberries!! I have the full set of Polychromos, Luminance and Prismacolour and those are the only three pencils I use........ until now, when my lovely partner, always an enabler, bought me recently the 520 set of Brutfuners to save on my expensive sets. Although I haven't got round to using them yet. I do have a few other sets that I don't count because I never use them. I got a set of Marco Raffines when they first came out a few years ago and people were raving about them. But a lot of mine came with broken leads and I couldn't layer very much with them, so if they are still knocking around, I will be binning them. I think I used them on 2 pictures and was so disappointed. However I wasn't as disappointed with them as I was in the set of Irojiten pencils I got. I was waiting to see if you had them and what you thought and you thought exactly the same as me. They just were not pigmented enough. Even after I could not layer them any more, they just didn't have the depth of pigment I like and I was sooo bitterly disappointed because I thought they'd be the perfect pencil, being Japanese. They came in a set of 3 books, which you know. And I haven't used them in years. They are obviously made to suit those Japanese artists we see so much, where they have really light shading in their pictures. That's just not my style.
I had not heard of the Tokyo seeds until a couple of months ago and I thought, they were intriguing. But I saw how complicated it is to obtain them so I watched some swatching vids, and I think it was one of Lovella's and I thought, I'm going to have the same problem with them as the Irojitens. So I will be really interested to see what you think of them.
They are a little similar to the irojiten tbh and very very expensive lol.... Definately a novelty item

Emma a really enjoyed seeing your collection! Strawberries 🍓! And I agree with you Brutfunner squares are the only set i got backups for because they’re that good and so cheap ! The starjoy gold are NOT at all like the brutfunner squares or the soucolor. They are harder , and less pigmented. On rough paper they do good. But honestly they’re my least favorites and i let my kids use them ! So that tells u a lot haha ! The caran dache supracolor are ok they’re not bad but not great. They come in a beautiful array of colors and activate very easily, but its a very light wash not too pigmented. I ise them in conjunction with my inktense because of the array of colors. Inktense is very limited. And also what’s nice about them is that u can also use the supracolors dry in many cases and get beautiful results! Especially on top of a wet wash

Great collection, thanks for sharing. I agree with most of your assessments with the exception of Schipper Farben which I think are wonderful and mimic a Polychromo or a Deli more than a Brut 180, but to each his own. Oh...and Strawberry....didn't miss a second!

Oh Emma, have you coloured a Colouring Heaven page (old original paper) with the Irojiten pencils? I thought, like you, that they were not very pigmented and could not find a way to get the best out of them. Then I coloured a page in one of the Colouring Heaven Fairies books and they work like a dream! They love that paper. The colours are amazing. They layer really well. Give it a try. They deserve to be loved.

I have found the white pencil in the square brutfuner one of the best I’ve used. At the moment toying between the 300 kalour or the brutfuner 520, do I need err no but ………. ❤

I love my holbeins, they are gorgeous, but I agree they are not for beginners. The brutfuner macarons are a pretty good copy though, different but only slightly.

I really enjoyed seeing your collection. I thought I was the only one to have Brutfuner square back up sets. I have two. LOL. But I have extra sets of Prismacolors (both vintage and Premier), PolyChromos (thanks to Coloring with Hailey), Black Widow (all sets), Arteza Expert (they were my 3rd set of pencils after Crayola and Zenacolor) and Castle Arts. Oh, and I LOVE Strawberries!!!

1.4🍓am…loved this…I don’t have the Holbeins but I have some of the higher end pencils and I loved how you described them. I have the koi in noir and found them quite hard like the Derwent Artist set but am thinking I need to try them on different paper…🤣🥰🥰
It's definately always a good idea to try your sets with different papers to make sure which way you prefer them.... Oh wow hope you got to sleep hun
