Bill Haley was unique and his Band's were always strong. His music was really Rock-a-billy, which is a mixture of Country Western and Blues. In any event Bill truly had a "Image" problem and has never really received the recognition he so richly deserves.
It's a slingerland radio king, though I just love the tune, this high end snare drum is not showing its best quality here, contemporary speaking! Plus a ton of reverb. I thing they recorded these songs in a large echo sounding room called the Pythagoran temple.

The dancers are good, and let's face it, this kind of dancer didn't really even exist yet at this time. These girls look like repurposed tap dancers, pretty good ones! What a time it must have been for music, when rock & roll was more about fun and human playfulness, rather than being angry or depressed. Not that angry or depressing tunes can't be authentic, but rock & roll was originally about having fun and making people happy.
A very good version of the Little Richard classic. Haley doesn't try to copy the original but re-interprets it in his own style. If you can jive, Haley and his band are just right for dancing! Shame they were never given their critical due ....except by the fans....x
