Bill Haley was unique and his Band's were always strong.
His music was really Rock-a-billy, which is a mixture of Country Western and Blues.
In any event Bill truly had a "Image" problem and has never really received the recognition he so richly deserves.

It's a slingerland radio king, though I just love the tune, this high end snare drum is not showing its best quality here, contemporary speaking! Plus a ton of reverb. I thing they recorded these songs in a large echo sounding room called the Pythagoran temple.

You've hit the rock nail on the head. Until Bill Haley came along, the music scene was largely crooning and big band with some jazz. Then the Comets hit the scene in The Blackboard Jungle with Rock Around The Clock...and the relentless beat of that drum. So I rapidly bought the single Rip It Up; with that drum beat...we had never heard rhythmic stuff like that before...it swept thru the UK like wildfire and the Modern Pop Age was born!.....how do I know?...'cus I was there!......PS I've still got that 7 inch 45 rpm disc!

On this day in 1956 {July 9th} Bill Haley & the Comets was scheduled to perform at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey...
A city ordinance was issued to prevent the concert, the ordnance stated 'Rock and roll music encourage juvenile delinquency and also inspires young females in lewd bathing suits to perform obscene dances on the city's beaches'...
At the time the group's "Rockin' Through the Rye' was at #78 on Billboard's Top 100 chart and that was also its peak position on the chart...
The record's flip-side, "Hot Dog, Buddy Buddy", was also on the Top 100 at position #87...
William John Clifton Haley passed away on February 9th, 1981 at the young age of 55...
    May he R.I.P.

Some overzealous fans got out of hand and local police were called, 25 people were hospitalized which resulted in the city council banning all future rock concerts at the Convention Center...
At the time the group's "Hot Dog, Buddy Buddy" was at #65 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the week before it had peaked at #60 and stayed on the chart for 6 weeks...
During the calendar year of 1956 Bill & the boys had nine records make the Top 100 chart; started with "See You Later, Alligator" {#6}, "R-O-C-K" {#16}, "The Saints Rock 'N Roll" {#18}, this one, "Rockin' Through the Rye" {#78}, "Rip It Up" {#25}, "Teenage's Mother (Are You Right?)" {#68}, "Rudy's Rock" {#34}, and "Don't Knock the Rock" {#45}...

@@BigMoe-wf7nx That's because she's the only one wearing heels, The others are wearing flat soft shoes. If you put them all in heels you'll have all long legs. But I will say American women back then did generally longer legs. Hmmm, I wonder why that is?
