Pet Cougar Rescued From Bronx Apartment

- An 11-month-old female cougar was removed from a New York City home last week after the owner surrendered the animal, authorities said Monday.
The Humane Society of the United States was on scene with the owner who surrendered the 80-pound cougar Thursday night. Meanwhile, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and NYPD also worked toward the animal's safe removal from the home and transported her to the Bronx Zoo, where she was examined and cared for by veterinarians and staff over the weekend until her transport to an Arkansas animal sanctuary Monday afternoon.
The cougar, nicknamed Sasha, is heading to Turpentine Creek, an accredited sanctuary where she will receive lifelong care.

Haha, she doesn't really enjoy car rides...most cats don't! I hope Sasha gets to live out her days in a stimulating and more natural environment once her adjustment period is over. I live in Mtn. Lion country here in the Sierra Nevada hills of NorCal, love these cats so much!

Of course the cougar was nervous, we don’t make it normal to own cougars like pets, but idk why or how she lost her pet cougar knowing that she took a very costly responsibility on raising a cougar which can hurt and kill someone if the cougar is threatened or not fed or fed enough
Sad that cougar was capture to be sold to end up in the Bronx, in an apt., what are some people thinking? not a good idea or smart for the humans or animals, it's also not fair and humane to the cougar, they deserve to roam free, be free especially when these wild animals get much stronger and start acting out instinctively, reacting.
One way to stop people from obtaining big cats is to go to the source find the breeders who are selling exotic pets and apprehend them.

My friend here in Florida has a pet Cougar. She’s de-fanged….declawed and spayed. He has no problem with her in the house at all. You have to take their weapons and sex drive away and he has no problems controlling her. It’s not a good idea because they are happier being free but it is what it is. People own everything here in Florida.
If they felt they had to de-fang and declaw the cat they clearly have no business owning that cat because that is cruel.Several people own them and post videos of their cats who are not declawed or de-fanged .Those cats when full grown are a hand full but you need get them out o f the cage and walk them and needless to say they are not for everyone as they are a lot of work but at least this girl realized a small apartment in NY was not the room this cat needed
You cannot own a cougar legally as a pet in Florida where did you get that idea that its ok to have one as a pet? For one thing they are endangered species they are protected as long as i remember back in the 80s until present.
