    A MARRIED COUPLE who share their city apartment with their pet puma say that they consider the big cat a part of their family. Sergey and Marina Ross, both aged 32, live with their 2-year-old mountain lion, Irma in their apartment in central Moscow. They adopted Irma from a zoo one year ago, after hearing that they intended to put her down because they could no longer afford to keep her. The big cat initially did not allow Sergey or Marina to touch her - but after months of adjusting to her new surroundings, she has eventually learned to love and trust them. Now, the couple have regular cuddles with the 38kg cat and Sergey says that he sometimes even sleeps next to her. To follow their story, click here:

    Cats are the only animals that domesticated themselves -- they chose to live with humans when we first began storing the grain that attracted rodents. The cats have been training us every since.
    Now, the puma concolor has decided to get in on all the benefits of having two-leggers as servants and chefs, proving once again how smart felines are!

For that matter, some people shouldn't have any pets at all. When a cat sleeps with you it should be viewed as a privilege. Their presence is comforting (providing the bed is big enough) and has a way of keeping bad dreams at bay.

    I agree that Irma could not survive in the wild but I suggest you give her much more space to exercise. You need a yard with trees. I also would have suggested continuous exposure to other animals and people. Socialized animals do much better because you can't keep her away from people for her life. What about going to the vet? She will have to be muzzled. Take an example from Messi. I see that you love her. Concentrate on providing for her. I am so surprised that pumas are being domesticated. I know cheetahs do well because they are like dogs and social, but pumas, like you said, are solitary animals, hunters. There is a lot of instinct in her. Watch for signs. Messi was socialized a lot but you can see that he really doesn't like to be around anyone but the couple he lives with. Good luck. Enjoy the love.

      But yeah, sure though, “limits”. It’s an unhealthy life for a cougar and dangerous for the people and pets around her. Imagine a dog being kennelled all day except for a brief little stint outside. Oh, it’s just limits though! Surely that is fine and responsible pet ownership! 🙃
      With an active dog in an apartment, at least the owner can take it for a long daily walk and have that be substantial enough. A cougar though? Lmao, sure, an hour outside where the animal can’t even move to the fullest is just peachy. She needs to be put somewhere where she can run, jump and climb freely (within an enclosed space of course, there’s no chance she can go back into the wild), not being left in an apartment nearly the entire day.

      lisa evans How many, do you have statistics? Even in the wild cougars pretty much never attack humans.

    • @lisaevans5840
      @lisaevans5840 5 лет назад +2

      @Irma_pumacat, there are more and more attacks as people move into their territory along the West Coast of America. Cougar are solitary creatures, but they have and will attack humans when they find they are easier to attack then other prey. Her in the United States people are attacked by their "exotic pets on a regular basis. People treat their exotics like house pets and sooner or later they show their wild nature and lash out. It's a sad truth that people like to ignore. Don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise. It's not fare to the animal and it's defiantly dangerous to any human that comes into contact with that animal.

    if she was only 7 months old when they got her I dont get why they didn't rehabilitate and release her in the wild.

    • @FallingGuineaPig
      @FallingGuineaPig 5 лет назад +3

      Leigh Davis Captive cougars are unable to be successfully rehabilitated and sent back into the wild. The only options for orphan cougars are to either A) go to a zoo or sanctuary, B) get left out in the wild, or C) get put down. A cougar like Irma (after being raised in a zoo for 7 months) would have 0 chance of being successfully rehabilitated. Even if it was possible, it would also be expensive for them to ship the cougar to North America (as cougars are not native to Russia).

      Releasing to the wild isn't always the best option. There's numerous things to consider when making such a decision, for example: age, health status and associated needs if any. Ability to survive alone is a biggie.
      I wonder if Irma & Messi are related? Sounds as though they came from similar circumstances. 🙂
      Good luck with her, seems like you are doing a fantastic job with her😘😍😘🤩❣💖💜💙💛💚
