- If you are looking for a beautiful and culturally rich city to visit in China, look no further than the city of Eternal Spring: Kunming! As the capital of Yunnan Province, this makes a great base to explore the area from. Kunming is home to many top attractions like the Yunnan Ethnic Village, The Old Town and Stone Forest just an hours drive away. Kunming is also known for its diverse dining options and I was lucky to have a lovely local show me around an awesome market. I even tried something I did not think I would ever try, which was chicken's feet! Let me know in the comments if you have ever travelled to Kunming :)

I'm from Taiwan Province of China. Through Alina's videos, I saw that people in mainland China live a happy life. However, our Taiwanese media and Western media have been promoting that the Chinese people have no freedom, no clothes to wear, and no food To Eat, so, who is the liar?
The criticism from the media cannot resonate with people. The biggest issue within China is fairness, as government led wealth distribution makes individual efforts seem insignificant.
简单想想,世界工厂可能没钱赚吗😅
@@user-qf4rk6ot1q You, such a lier, can't represent Chinese. Do you think the Western countries have fairness? LOL!
I have just came back from my Hong Kong and Guangzhou trip..I can attest that the media in taiwan dan the western media, have lost their integrity as media..Hong Kong living expenses is very very high, hotel price, even street food is so much more expensive than Guangzhou..the people are more friendly nowadays in HK compared to few decades ago..but english seems to be slowly forgotten in HK..
the liar is your media and Gvt and also the USA Gvt and the media
Kunming is my most favourite, a highly underrated city. I lived there for a year and i definitely wanna go back in this lifetime.

I went to Kunming during Chinese new year. Such a beautiful city with the most soothing weather. No sooner than I left Kunming I started to miss the mouth-watering mushroom hotpot and chill vibe.
My wife and I were born in Shanghai and she never consider to move to another city or country because she is so proud of where we come from. After visiting Kunming she told me Kunming might be a good choice for retiring life...
Kunming is a really lovely city :)
Yeah, I super want to move to Kunming when I retire

Is that why you don't want to live in China 🇨🇳?
@@AhmetTekin101 How on earth did you get the message that I didn't want to live in China?
I don't want to live abroad especially the US because I don't wanna live in a place where guns, drugs and shoplifting is a part of daily life.
Why your videos have become so precious to people in North America is because you are "bravely" confronting China and trying to keep an open mind. Shockingly unveiled the mystery of the great Eastern country, thousands of years of history and culture and modern civilization and technology, its progress is the envy of the world
Totally agree. The myth about China as bad, poor, undeveloped from western news would be bursted for anyone traveling to China.

Americans and Canadians can be very unadventurous about various foods, the textures and flavors. Especially those, who are many generations in and don't know their roots much or don't associate themselves with any cultures outside US. This makes your videos ever so precious, just cause you are "braving" the world and try to be openminded. Kudos to you, Alina. I was born in Russia and lived there for 17 years before I immigrated to US about 34 years ago. In my 17 years there I've been exposed to some weird foods and developed a taste for them, but most importantly, I remain open minded and appreciating of various textures, flavors and smells. But I have to say, there are many foodstuffs that unless one tried them in childhood it's hard to take a true liking to. Going to a foreign market and having a local guide is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this experience.
Haha I agree. I am not adventurous enough to solely be a food blogger, but I will try and push myself out of my comfort zone some when it comes to new foods.
I think hotdogs are pretty bad! Ha............
True. Food in Asia is not only diverse in tastes, but also in textures and smells.
Totally right . Europeans are in general more adventurous. Americans prefer their unhealthy processed food with unknown ingredients
Kunming is known as the city of eternal spring also known as the capital of flowers. The mushroom hot pot is made of a variety of local precious types. Definitely worth a try.
I took my daughter to Kunming when she is in grade 8 a few years back. We tour same farm market you visit. She like the taste of food there very much. Definitely worth visit. We bought some BBQ duck. The price was almost like 20% of the price in Regina, Saskatchewan
I worked in Kunming in 1989, 1991, 1993 and 2000. I cannot believe how the city has changed. In 1989 the population was around 3,000. Most of the restaurants were just little places on the street. There were more donkey carts than automobiles and we had to boil our drinking water. Bicycles were the main mode of transportation.
By 2000 things were more modern and I believed the population was around 6,000. By our standards it was a city that was far from modern and still just local street markets. There were department stores, but nothing like the ones in the USA. However, you don’t go to foreign countries expecting them to be like home. I enjoyed the time that I spent there. The people were wonderful and they wanted you to see everything that China had to offer . I was encouraged to travel which I did and was able to do things that tourists are not usually able to see. But, it definitely was not an easy place to live the first couple of times I was there. After I was there often when I would go out on the streets I would see people that I had known before!
When I was there in 1991 I was there before my husband and when my husband got there we were going to the Green Lake hotel. A group of the minority girls saw him from a distance and started running toward him waving , smiling and yelling. What a wonderful place!
Chicken feet. Best food to eat as you eat more, you will fall in love with this feet. It is not easy to cook.
There is a story about Crossing the bridge noodles.
It is said that there was a scholar in ancient times who stayed at school to focus on his studies in order to take exams. His wife brings him food every day, but because the school is a bit far from home, the food is already cold when it is delivered. So his wife came up with a solution, which was to cut the meat very thin to make it easy to cook, then make a pot of hot chicken soup, and cook the rice noodles, then put all of them into a food box. Because there is a lot of oil on top of the chicken soup, it can maintain the soup's temperature for a long time. When she brought the food box to school, her husband could cook the meat in hot chicken soup and put the cooked noodles in, so he could eat hot food.
Because there is a bridge between their home and school, and this wife need to pass a bridge when delivering the food box, people later call this cooking method "cross bridge", and this kind of noodles is called "Crossing the bridge noodles".
Hello Ni Hao Ma ,Alina Thank you very much for take all FC to visit KUNMING A large family consisting of 56 ethnic groups it's very Great of China too.
I just arrived in Kunming today. I'm absolutely loving it already 😊
I'm so glad!
It's amazing how much information Alina has shown us about China. I'm watching all videos in this tour and the quality of images, the songs are incredible. To know about others cultures open your mind. Waiting for the next.
Aw thank you so much!
I've been enjoying the incredible experience of China Alina ! Thanks 😊.
I didn't make it to Kunming on my last visit but the old town and the park with all the ethnic displays has definitely put it on my list for future visits. Thank you for sharing!
I’m happy to hear it!
Kunming! The best place in China for mild weather all year around. Perfect mix of modern vibes and traditional legacies with stunning national parks at the center of the city. Very unique.
You even hope the time would pause for a few years so that people can fully enjoy a sample of everything before the historical relics are eventually replaced by modern developments.
Great episode. Love as always❤
Another great, informative video in a relaxed and beautifully filmed style : )
Thank you so much!
You may need more than one year to visit all those different cities and provinces in China. Each province is so different, sometimes you may think you are in another country.
Very true!
Kunming is a city with a spring-like climate all year round and is also home to many ethnic groups. Unique cuisines and customs can be found everywhere in this city, where mutual tolerance and mutual support keep this multi-ethnic cohabitation city running harmoniously.
Kunming spells great weather & perfect air quality (AQI) - spring forever! It’s flora & flora is amazing with lots of historical ethnic cultures preserved for reference. It’s Karst Landforms are a unique Stone formation and it’s parks and lakes are also wonderfully beautiful. It’s become a tourist friendly spot for food and cultural immersion by interested parties seeking their roots & studying history. Looks like your short stay paid off with a brief tapping in on the ethnic village, old town and city center, but the stone Forrest aerial shots would have been epic for Vloggers ✅👍🫡Next time then 🙏 Happy Adventures 👍

So many delicious food in Yunnan's open markets!!! Basically, all the ingredients that Thais eat I think. The eels would definitely be welcomed by Thais. However, I never ate loaches before, I just kept them as pets in my fresh water aquarium. However, the loaches I had were bright orange, from the Amazon River. Continue to learn a lot from this market tour. Awesome!!!

Wow!!! You're lucky to have a personal guide that's a local. Even more, you got to try the steamed chicken feet. I don't know what Kunming chicken feet tastes like, but I do enjoy the Cantonese version a lot. We eat chicken feet very often in Thai food because of the influence from Chinese diaspora here in Thailand. I am planning a trip to Kunming again, but this time I will bring my family. I'm learning a lot from your video. Thank you.

That "sweet white wine" thing... The basis of it sounds like it's just Jiuniang 酒釀 (or Amazake 甘酒 in Japan), rice that's been partially digested by Aspergillus oryzae (Jiuqu 酒麹 in Chinese, Kome Koji 米糀 in Japanese), so all the sugars got pulled out of the rice but it hasn't gone through fermentation yet so there's little to no alcohol inside. Did they actually add milk to it? That's something we don't hear it being done in the Jiangnan region(near Shanghai) where we typically cook Jiuniang with glutinous rice balls for a simple dessert called Jiuniang Tangyuan 酒釀湯圓 (or in our region the mochi dumplings are called tandu'zi 汤团子).
I’m not super sure, but it did have a slight milky taste if I remember correctly
I appreciate you showing some of the less known areas of China. Great stuff!
Great video Alina! Oh definitely the Old Town was my favorite. I continue to be amazed at the size of these cities. On to the next!!
It’s unfortunate that you didn’t have a chance to get off the beaten path to visit the Kunming Dog kennel. The iconic Kunming dog is China’s national dog developed by the People’s Liberation Army in the 50s by crossing the German Shepard with local dogs. Because of the isolation of the Kunming villages , the PLA Kunming Dog breeding kennel has the only gene pool of the original German Shepard from the 50s in the world. The Kunming dog is a very versatile dog that’s very easy to train and very protective. And it’s used extensively in the Chinese military. Kunming was the breeding station for these dogs because of the excellent animal husbandry of the Yi people who rival the Germans and Dutch in raising animals.
Thank you for posting this about Kunming. I lived there a number of years in the 1970s as a child. Revisited for the 1st and only time about 16 years ago. I hope to visit again in a few years and possibly retire there eventually.
