Last year they did In The Hall of the Mountain King with the same characters except a different female lead. In that one they were all around a cauldron and every time they added something and took a sip their voices changed. At the end, Layne, on the far right of the screen threw a carrot into the cauldron and everybody disappeared into a puff of smoke.
In this one Eli, in green, found a way back and found a spell book but it wasn’t his. So they’re all fighting over the spell book but it really belongs to Rachel. She takes care of it by getting rid of them again. We’re hoping this will be an ongoing series. (Because no detail is too small, if you pay attention you’ll notice that the SPELL book is a recycled dictionary LOL!)
If you read the description they will list all of the pieces performed. The part where they were chanting in the background was a nod to the first piece since it was from Mountain King.
For a complete switch, you might check out the one that followed this, their most recent release. They did a cover of Michael Jackson’s The Way You Make Me Feel. They have completely reimagined it from pop to a sexy jazzy piece. The choice of guest, DeeJay Young, is positively inspired.

VoicePlay always hits home runs! They are SO creative and imaginative... and they have the vocal chops to back it up!

Layne's (bearboxer) brain is a fantastical and scary place simultaneously 😄. Definitely check out more - they never disappoint! 🌹🕊

Love when Layne gets carried away with an arrangement. They never disappoint.

No matter what they tackle, VP's creativity is off the charts. Thanks for reacting to this one, it's one of my absolute favorites. I'm completely charmed by the way Layne wrote a complete story, with character development and plot progression, all without words and in just a few minutes. Dreaming up interactions is one thing. But there is absolutely nothing there that didn't advance the plot, and that's far more difficult than it seems.

This is a semi sequel to one they did a year or so ago, In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Both arranged by Layne Stein, the beat boxer. He said there may be a third one, but it will be awhile.

Voiceplay is amazing as is Geoff Castellucci (spelling) He's the bass. He also does some stories.

Loved this, thank you. They do like to dress in characters. One of my favorites is The Oogie Boogie's Song. The depth of the note Castellucci hits at the end is unreal.

Thank you Reckyj for an awesome reaction to Voice Play. You must check out Voice Plays cover of....In The Hall Of The Mountain King. It was their first one as these same characters. Also Voice Plays cover of.. Dream On.. originally by Aerosmith & their cover of The Little Mermaid. Voice Play knocks them all out of the ball park. They are known as The Theater Kids of a capella. They are totally independent & do 99% of everything themselves. Geoff Castellucci , the low bass singer in Voice Play has his own channel & loves to clone himself 4 times over to harmonize with himself. Check out his covers of ..You Don't Mess Around With Jim & his cover of..Big Iron. You may not always see his clones but rest assured all the voices you hear in Geoffs solo covers are all his.

I love this medley! VoicePlay has created a great bunch of characters (they're called Grundels) whose personalities come through so clearly without any of them speaking a word. I also recommend their new cover of Total Eclipse of the Heart that dropped earlier today--it couldn't be more different from this one, but it's very beautiful.

Due to my mom’s Swedish heritage, I tend to favor Scandinavian classical composers like Edvard Grieg, Carl Nielsen, Johan Svendsen, & Jean Sibelius. Unfortunately, the only “Swedish” composer that I'm familiar with is Franz Berwald. There are two other composers who are sort of Swedish: Dieterich Buxtehude was born in Helsingborg, but that town was part of Denmark at the time; hence why he is considered Danish. The other is American composer Howard Hanson, who was the son of Swedish immigrants; not only was he born in Wahoo, Nebraska (less than 10 miles from my mom's hometown of Mead), but he was acquainted with my mom’s childhood piano teacher.

@@Reckyj For best results, never take your eyes off these guys because they play off each other so well in all their videos, so you don't want to miss a thing they do. Also always wait for the credits to stop rolling before you stop any of their videos. Sometimes they have a little more to add.
