actually i agree with you. and for those who don't understand what he's referring to, FLAK was the name for an anti aircraft gun used by german during WW2 i believe, which now that i mention it seems to be a clever reference on the part of the devs since I think I read somewere black hole in these games was supposed to be loosely based on nazi germany.
Hey buddy. I'm a destructioneer. That means I solve Problems... Not problems like "how do I build a Bridge" or "what's the better building material, glass or Concrete" because that would fall within the purviews of Engineering. I solve Practical Problems! Like, What if some mean mother-hubbard wants to shoot me in the ass and overtake my continent? The answer? Fortify my troops. And if that don't work? Fortify MORE troops! Like this little-old quad-tank here; Built by me, Deployed by me, and you best hope, Not defending a city when I'm using my superpower. Yes, I think Flak looks like the Engineer from TF2
Never played TF2, but now that you mention it, he does kinda look like the Engineer. Huge chin and goggles. From that quote, he sounds like Flak if he had some of Lash's brains.
His portrait while in-game looks like the engineer's broad face and wearing red goggles, so I kinda thought that too. It's definitely the helmet and goggles that does it.
Basically from what i heard of from flak is that every low and crappy unit can somehow be reliable as high level units..... From infantry can take on md tanks with ease While the high level unit however will felt crappy offensive nerf... What kind of upside down i have been lookin here....
As much as people hate flak, (or should I say give him flack), I actually like playing as him. His music is good and he can be very cost efficient and devastating if you get his co or super co up and running, even to the point where attacking tanks with basic infantry is recommended. Plus, you gotta admit, he had great lines in he campaign
And this also shows you why not to touch Sasha... if he finds out you touched it, he gets so pissed he tried to join with an evil army attempting to take over the wrld
I'd buy it for the updated soundtrack if they used real instruments. I always wanted to hear a Benny Goodman-esque big band rendition of Sensei's theme.
I don't really think that Flak really is a bad CO - probably worse than most other COs in the game, but at least he isn't completely overpowered. He's a bit like the Green Earth COs - his day2day-power isn't very good, but if you play a bit with his COP or SCOP and manage to time their use right, he might turn out to be a beast on the battlefield. Or not. It's up to IntSys RNG, so basically everything could happen.
My problem with Flak is that his powers are so unreliable. Other co's, you get what you get, but Flak has a chance of fucking up his attacks which makes him a wild cannon.
Executive Sonda That's true, and that's why Flak is considered one of the worst COs. But I think Flaks random attacks are also something that makes matches with him really enjoyable (at least in AW2, not in DS where every CO has +10 luck without any downsides...). He might get his "Flak-attacks" and completely demolish units he usually couldn't touch, but still has the risk to fuck up matchups that would have been save for any other CO. It's just more satisfying killing a Md tank using infantry with Flak cause you know you took a risk and the odds were in your favour (at least for *this* time) - and even if your opponent uses Flak and his powers, you still got the hope that he might get reduced firepower, making Flaks SCOP thrilling and entertaining for both sides. So he's one of the rare COs that are fun to play with and fun to play against, and I think that really is a thing that should be honored.*Go Flak!*
They could have given him a much better d2d bonus and COP and SCOP. His d2d bonus should be a bonus of +20% attack and defense, but he is incapable of using any terrain advantage( He is a brute after all). His CO increases his attack power by 10%(it's supposed to be boring, he is a brute after all). His SCOP powers take away his 20% defense bonus and adds it to his attack bonus
I don't mind Flak's gimmick. He's supposed to be such a brainless brute that he throws high firepower in a direction with little regard if he's actually hitting his targets. The issue is the bad luck he has undermines his good luck too hard. Nell has the same good luck gimmick, but without the bad luck and her good luck potential is higher than Flak's. Meaning Flak is a worse Nell. You would think he'd be a character with better good luck potential than Nell at the cost of getting bad luck engagements, but thats just not how he was designed and it sucks, leading to him being the worse CO.
Sometimes, I wonder why Flak didn't just become the one to charge on the Battlefield towards your units when he has the power to put a battleship on a lake, and use Indirect Bombers
The worst thing about Flak isn't that he's inconsistent, it's that he's actually a 100% co most of the time. His good and bad luck are two separate rolls that tend to cancel each other out. On top of that he has a mediocre set of powers he's just really underwhelming outside of his theme and co power songs which slap super hard
I'm sure they designed him to be bad on purpose since he's the first CO you go up against in AW2's campaign. When it comes down to it, he's just a shitty version of Nell. He's someone that you either play for this theme tune, or because you want to play with a handicap.
The ai can tell if they will get good or bad luck and will do seemingly dumb things as a result (I.e. attacking your full health tank with an infantry)
Am I wrong in saying Jugger is actually Flak? I always assumed as a kid it was him cause he messed up or something and black hole turned him into a cyborg
His Barbaric blow can deal insane amounts of damage if he gets lucky. One time i was using Kanbei and I have just used Samurai Spirit, Flak's mech unit managed to one shot my full HP neotank.(road terrain)
+zergterran If that was mathematically possible, yes. But the formula is proven to work differently, and thus you are an awful liar, sorry. The maximum luck damage Flak on Barbaric blow could do to a Neutank with +60% defense would be 40.

In fire emblem the exact same thing happens, and it sucks when you have to restart because someone got killed by a moving enemy you can't see.

Weird to have a co called Flak that doesn't have a bonus to anti air units. Anyway, I like this guy. More than Jugger.
His Name Is Meant To Be "Luck" In A Different Language.
its cause he takes a lot of flak
actually i agree with you. and for those who don't understand what he's referring to, FLAK was the name for an anti aircraft gun used by german during WW2 i believe, which now that i mention it seems to be a clever reference on the part of the devs since I think I read somewere black hole in these games was supposed to be loosely based on nazi germany.

Masupups Well engineer doesnt have a 6 pack.

Masupups nah he's out of shape

Maybe that explains why he just deployed a Bomber.
Basically from what i heard of from flak is that every low and crappy unit can somehow be reliable as high level units.....
From infantry can take on md tanks with ease
While the high level unit however will felt crappy offensive nerf...
What kind of upside down i have been lookin here....

I just noticed how similar him and tf2's engineer look like
Flak is the cousin of Dr. Frankenstein's monster who enlisted in the Black Hole Army

Flak is like... Nell after a Balance update.
When all you need is firepower, who cares about strategy?
The words I live by
See this bomber? It's an indirect unit.
Good ol Helmut
Its your turn, now move your army, or else
Damn, Engineer's been pumping iron!
Somehow, the black hole super CO power theme fits with him well.
I really love his theme. But that is the already the best about him.
I guess this was the inspiration for the TF2 soldier...
And not just in looks.
Flak vs Max vs big bubba
*I'd Hear This Theme* Ah This Gonna Be Easy!
Look at that jaw though.
flakalakalakalakalakalakalakalak
This version is the best version of his theme, the dual strike version’s drums sound lack luster
"Hey this max kinda remind me of me expect I am me"
This when you fuck up and Flaks power is ready be like:
The greatest moment I remember playing as Flak was when I did 7 to my friend's Neo Tank with my Recon, with his Super Power of course. =D
Sometimes, I wonder why Flak didn't just become the one to charge on the Battlefield towards your units when he has the power to put a battleship on a lake, and use Indirect Bombers
Although I prefer a lot of the DS themes, I'll agree, this one sounds a lot more menacing than the Dual Strike version. :)
He's someone that you either play for this theme tune, or because you want to play with a handicap.
id love to see fight Beast from days of ruin
Best theme in the game!!!
Indirect Bombers and a battleships on lakes.
Just played Mass Effect 2 with this music. It was great
flak rewinds me of engineer
Maybe compare it to the theme of cyberpunk?
Bonus/reduced damage at random isn't at all a bad CO design.
But it's bad CO design for bad AI. Like, really bad AI hahaha.
Anyway dank theme.
Flak was the bad version of nell
Those hands look like he has like 8 fingers on each hand o.O
His Barbaric blow can deal insane amounts of damage if he gets lucky. One time i was using Kanbei and I have just used Samurai Spirit, Flak's mech unit managed to one shot my full HP neotank.(road terrain)
+zergterran
If that was mathematically possible, yes.
But the formula is proven to work differently, and thus you are an awful liar, sorry.
The maximum luck damage Flak on Barbaric blow could do to a Neutank with +60% defense would be 40.
YOU JUST GOT ROASTED BY A AW NERD MY BOI

I always thought that Flak should've played like Grimm does in Dual strike. A slight boost to power at the cost of poor defense seems more appropriate for a guy like flak than a damage roulette.
Although it is very funny when a strategy suddenly gets derailed because he killed a Md. Tank with a recon or some nonsense like that.

Flak was amung the best out of the Black Hole CO's, simply cause of his response to everything. First meeting Sami and Nell: "Two women CO's. Good Country, Must have!" to first spotting Max "Hey look, a Gorellia!". Flak is basically summerising the "Firepower over Brains" phrase :P

I always enjoyed fighting against Flak, he was one of the few CO's in the game that felt fair even when using his powers and was even fun to play as, sure sometimes your troops did little damage to something they should well of beaten, but other times (mainly with the super power) that group of small tanks could suddenly rip a neo tank unit to pieces, fun risk vs reward system!

Whenever you think about how Andy doesn't know what units to use to Capture with, what an airport is, or what a continent is, remember that there's always someone who's even more of an idiot.
Case in point, Flak can't even use a simple microphone, even though all you technically have to do is speak into it after it's set up.
Although in his defense, apparently, he knows how to get Naval Units, such as Battleships into lakes with no ports...Granted I like to think that that would be due to unnatural human strength.

I swear that any AI that played as Flak immediately breaks and starts doing tank loop-dee-loops when I play. I don't know why, and I'm seriously not joking; it actually freaking happens. While I'm engaging half of his force in one area, his tanks in another area just start driving in circles.
