This is Jake's awesome theme from Advance wars: Dual Strike. As a great fan of the Advance Wars series, I was thrilled to get to play with this piece, and here it is.
A little warning though - It's just extended. It won't loop properly unless I shave off a minute of this video, or... Well, youtube doesn't like things longer than 10 minutes generally. Sorry~!

As a kid, I didn't understand why Jake seemed kinda sad when Rachel tells him he's like a little brother to her in the final mission... now I can only say: Damn, poor Jake... XD

It's more due to the fact that the final mission is a life-or-death situation, considering the Grand Bolt was going to consume ALL of Omega Land and with enough time, the entire planet.

I was a teen when this game came out. During our gym time we had a lot of options including stationary biking. I'd break out my DS and play the AWDS tracks on my headphones much like this and bike the hour away. Nobody ever questioned me. These themes are burned into my being and I love it.
That's incredible! THat was one of the joys of the past, appreciating the finer things in life rather than being bombarded with spotify ads 24/7
I would listen to these songs too with earphones on my ds lite. It was cool that they added an audio room or music room(forget what it’s called) specifically to listen to the tracks
Holy shit, I did the same exact thing! But I actually played the game while biking for an hour.
Gotta love the guitar riff in this. Definitely fits Jake's, "I'm here too bring the pain" attitude. He knows that he ain't the smartest, but he'll roll with the punches. It helps he's an absolute BEAST with his CO Powers. Put him on plains and watch things go die.
Unfortunately, you put stuff on plains, they're all gonna die as well. Have to weight he options, is it worth the extra fire power, or would the higher defense of forests, cities, and mountains be a better idea.
@@ShadowdaHedgie11 Granted, aircraft get the boost too, and they don't HAVE higher defence options.
@@alunbuss7877 Do they? Well, still, the main bulk of your army most of the time are units you’re not gonna want to leave on plains if you have other options. It is at least better than Koal/Zac's firepower boost on roads, and not as broken as Candy/Kindle's boost on cities.
@@ShadowdaHedgie11 They do indeed, and his powers soup up that Plains boost too. I'd say B Copters and Bombers benefit most from it.
And yeah, his units are beasts on plains if you attack first, but they needed a defence boost on the plains to make him really solid. Not that he's not GOOD to use, but he'd be a BEAST if he boosted defence.
@@alunbuss7877 The thing is, it is only a 10% increase. If he can get the first strike, it certainly helps, but if he’s the one getting attacked, due to the plains having little defense, he's not gonna get to enjoy it much.
Like I said, better than Koal, since roads give 0 defence, and bridges don’t count as roads…. And not as broken as Kindke's 30% attack boost on cities, along with the defense boost everyone gets on them.
I wonder if Jake listens to this in his headphones? That being said, I wonder what artists Jake would like...

The best i could get was battalion wars 1n2 for the wii its like real time advanced wars(unit icons are similar too) not as good tho but fun as HECK? YES!

@@itssossbruh3657 the developers said they would like to create a new one but so far their main efforts are for fire emblem. They say they dont have many ideas for a new one since the core of the game didnt change that much between each game
@@Antony2618 I'm just glad they acknowledged it. I would've been bummed out a bit if they completely forgotten the series but hey, if it's still on their mind, then maybe we'll be seeing another game in the future
For now, the closest thing to Advance Wars is Tiny Metal series. The tribute to Advance Wars in Tiny Metal is very notable, especially in second game with the game mechanisms like supply, infantry transport and even CO power.
Despite the lack of Naval units, Tiny Metal made up with more variety of land units and air units, and every map has fog of war which gives the game more challenge.
With Max being so nerfed in the 3rd installment of the game, Jake kinda took over as my go-to bruiser for Orange Star. Doesn't suffer an indirect combat unit penalty either.
max is the best way to sweep the war room with perfect s ranks. his power is op and his tanks can actually damage kanbei which is unheard of

@@prayingkabutops1392 In the wiki stated that he's getting old and slow now. Well, the game was set several years after AW2, even Eagle himself was planning to retire.

Finally Advance Wars returns, I'll wait in a future a remake of Dual Strike for play again with Jake

Same. Every time I played a chapter I played as him, with the exception of the Blue Moon tutorial missions.
It feels more aggressive and fast-paced; Jess's theme is more calculated.
I love jakes, but I put my kid to sleep with Jess theme, just perfect groove 👌
This song has some kind of magical power to hit WAY differently in the final mission in contrast to every other.
His song gives me Child Orphan Soldier vibes, like he as chosen and forced into an experimental unit and lost so many friends along the way, but is duty bound not only to his people but to those people that are gone, marching forward into his mission with sadness but hopeful for a future that he will never experience.

Is that actually how John spoke in the English version? He was kind of a bland character admittedly, but goddamn that's pretty much a straight up rewrite.
Advance Wars Reboot Camp: Dual Strike + Days Of Ruin needs to happen next.
I hope by merging these games Dual Strike will get a taste of the balance of Days Of Ruin, plus I really want to see COs from both continuities interact with each other even though it'll just be side content.
Here's hoping AWDS gets a remake as well so we can hear WayForward's take on this banger
This is why Jake always wins. Cause he's listening to this song. Whenever he isn't jammin' to this mix, that's why he lost. It's that simple, this friggin song has the power to WIN BATTLES.
Not just battles, entire galactic WARS. Also over several alternate universes.
Still wish his troops suffered less damage. Hearing this track on repeat is always a serious morale boost and basically Jake giving Black Hole the finger.
When you hear this track, you know he's ready to throw down.

I think that Dual Strike does not make any of the characters really look worse. The problem is that 80% of the characters are facing left. This looks extremely annoying.

I think the issue with Dual Strike is that every character is less cartoony than Black Hole Rising. I mean, Advance Wars is supposed to be lighter and softer after all.

U can't go wrong with rachel for that missile attack first tho, and then mopping up with jake
Hawke tagged with andy is my go to. hawkes super first turns any equal hp fight into an advantage for you attack as much as possible because Andy's follow up super will heal the damage sustained from counter attacks and the combination allows you to field severely damaged units from the back ranks for free. nothings better than seeing 4 damaged tanks at 1 or 2 hp come right back to the front as 9s or 10s
Jess is usually my main in 1v1. I also love teaming her up with Jake to deal a ton of damage. Their Tag Break, Heavy Metal, charges up fairly quickly (Both COs have shorter CO Power gauges) and can be very devastating. Best part about it is the fact that you can start the Tag Break with either of them. However, I think Jess is the best lead for the Tag Break.
I played so much Advance Wars Dual Strike that this is the theme that immediately pops into my mind when I think of Advance Wars.

Can we just all agree, out of all the new themes for this game, JAKE ABSOLUTELY SMASHED IT, it’s catchy, it’s fresh, it’s invigorating, it’s all that a good theme should be in this franchise

Listening to this actually spurred me on during my final moments of uni when finishing off my last few assignments.
Hopefully him along with all the other Dual Strike COs appear as bonus COs for extra modes of the remake of 1 and 2 like how Andy, Olaf, Kanbei, Drake, Flak and Adder were bonus characters for the extra modes and had no involvement in the main story of Dual Strike
You confused Kanbei for Grit. Grit appears alongside Sonja, Eagle and Sami in mission 23

But hey, the Devil Survivor OST is like my second favorite MegaTen OST and I play a lot of hard rock so maybe there’s a bias.
finally got to dual strike and jake single handedly made me realize just how many plains tiles a map might have. i kept thinking 'i really need to use other COs but i notice a map has a shit ton of plains a think 'but this map is *perfect* for jake...'
Plains were so easy to overlook but now when i see a bunch of them in another aw game part of me wishes i had jake

I absolutely love the whole AW series, even though I have never played AW:DS. I am such an addict, I downloaded the gba app and downloaded 1and 2. I play them almost every single day. My fave themes are this one and in AW2 the ending credits theme

The theme that plays when you finally break the enemy line and have a lot of tanks to send through the hole.
I swear this guy is one of the most unpredictable COs to play against if the map has alot of plains. He can randomly snipe you with either power, and push hard with Super. Good luck planning around it constantly.

I really like Sensei/Sami. Get dat infantry units and then buff them like crazy and capture like half the map.
Mine are
Hawke and Lash (Soften them with Black Storm/Hawke's increased offense and defense, then switch to Lash to utterly obliterate anything.)
Eagle and Sami (Earth and Sky is op. Nuff said.)
Jake and Rachel (Y'know. Rach's Missiles + Jake's Tanks....)
Colin and Sasha (More money= more power.)
drake/olaf starting with drake. rip half your fuel and 2 damage to all your units. finish with olaf. there goes a total of 4 damage to all your units. whilst consuming double of your halved fuel for 2 turns because of the snow! if you aint got apcs/black boats around your gonna have a lot of problems lol.

That is because in the japanese version of the series Orange Star is called Red Star. In the Western version it's called Orange Star because Red Star could make apology/reference of communism.

If you pay close attention and listen to this with earphones, at some point you can hear Will's theme under Jake's.
I never understood the hatred Jake gets from the AW community. It might be because I played the EU version, but he never said anything that comes close to internet lingo or DJ territory. All what he said and did in the game,from my memory, has him being a very kind, but serious person, who loves his Country(and Nature as well) and would do anything to defend it. He is the angel of vengeance against Black hole, who earned his eternal odium towards them for thier crimes against his Country.
Yes it sounds overideslizing, but from my fussy memory, I got this picture of him.
Its more the off handed words that make him seem like hes a "cool" kid from the 80/90s as he actually uses words like phat, but aside from that hes alright but creeps into jess territory in specialisation so hes also competing with her in gameplay with his disadvantage being plains and how neccessary they are to him forcing him to sacrifice decent cover for a fire power boost (which can make him a bit inconsitent to play on a variety of maps compared to jess)
I feel i should add i do like jake just some of his quotes are real cheesy
@@golddust7095 Well it depends on the version you play as, but I never saw him saying such stuff...until I watched some footage of the english version, where...yeah, that can be annoying. Also in the Campaign, the plain power boost is mad up with the fact, that you battle as him in territory with a lot of plains and with a chapter like "means to an end", he should be very decent with Jess and Rachel as partners. Andy is still more Iconic and canny, so it's a toss up between the two for best hero.
@@basilofgoodwishes4138 yh i was on about general pvp not campaign where hes probably one of the weaker COs unless and in pvp the ruleset most i know use ( for a balanced and fair match) are 1 CO and fog on, in campaign jake has no issues due to the many advantages the player gets especially in hard mode

I often choose Jake and Jess as my Tag COs mostly because of their themes. They're awesome; but I would be lying to myself if I say Will's Theme isn't better.
Note: I read an article on the internet that there's gonna be a fifth Advance Wars.

So, this storyline is over... when do we get the next instalment in the new series? I mean 8 years isn't that long to wait for a game, but it seems like they only make stuff if it has a rather large fanbase

+Felix Read i agree though, a new bright colorful cartoony Advance Wars game on the 3DS would be cool with a advancement of 3D garphics, and it probably wont look bad since the game is simplistic graphically
I like both sagas. Admitedly, I prefer fire emblem over advance wars, but that's mostly because while I am pretty decent at fire emblem, I suck big time at AW, and I like the concept of having an army of people with faces and personalities (although I must say, I'd place Olaf over a huge part of the fire emblem series cast). I still enjoy the latter, and both are incredibly good, and it would be equally bad for either of them to die.
Of course, I am not really in the bunch you mentioned, as my favourite fire emblems (and my favourite advance wars, black hole rising) are the GBA ones, back when waifus didn't properly exist yet in the series and the story was basically "Roy talks to Merlinus/Delphin/Guinivere, enemy happens, go get Fir her experience". Heck, I haven't even played awakening or fates.
I guess they will return making a new classic "Wars" games in a couple of years, like they did before (even if they just want to get a break from making new FE installments). By the way, it may not be that bad to give the Wars series a brief break so IS got a chance to rework some core game mechanics, cause that was something that never worked completely solid; like the damage calculation that overpowered units with high defense, unbalanced unit costs and broken COs (and some very bad designed maps back from the NES...). Some of them were kinda fixed in DoR or not as severe in AW1, but their existence is still annoying.
But I'm confident that IS will one day release a new, good Wars game, especially after playing FE Fates which was far more balanced and enjoyable in terms of gameplay than its (recent) predecessors and felt more like a turn based strategy game than a RPG.
