Everything has become fake in todays times. It’s painful to watch but I’m glad I lived in a good time. Look at the crowd, people that used to show up to fights and compare them to today.
In the 2nd round Cotto's nose was broken, forcing him to breathe through his mouth making it hard to fight and still he was winning a bunch of rounds. What a legend.
This fight took some of cottos prime. I remember him coming back against Michael Jennings and he looked like shit. His war with clottey too that could have been a draw. Despite that cotto went on to take on the best always. That's why he is missed and loved man. Had he won this fight he would have been pound for pound. Floyd left for awhile.
The most disgraceful fight I ever watched. When it was later discovered Margarito was using loaded gloves I was so mad. This fight affected Cotto’s entire career. He was redeemed in the rematch, but was he totally recovered from the emotional damage this cheater put him through? I don’t think he ever was. I had, and still have, the utmost respect for Cotto to this day. He is one hell of a man.
The emotional pain he got through with it. The scar tissue form after the illegal plaster used never. Those injuries opened fast again in every fight he got.
@@jesseromero2069 Yeah, his eye would open up after a few hard rounds. Cotto was a gentleman in and out of the ring which makes what Margarito did even more disgusting.
Seeing Cotto in that first round makes this so much tougher to watch. He was just coming into his prime, this dude was about to blossom into a special fighter, and this criminal, Margarito took his prime years away from him in one brutal beating from a Man with plaster in his gloves!
42:31 made me sad. looking at a beaten lion who just fought a war against a piece of shit cheater who literally did permanent damaged and took years away from Cotto’s career. This fight makes me look at Cotto heart and how much courage his has.

There was never such a thing. Commissioners checks every second of the bandages. They see when they open and sign the bandage before putting the gloves. Cotto has always been salty when he loses.
Antonio margarito should not only lost his boxing license, he should have been arrested for assault and battery. When you are a fighter who cheats you are endangering the life of your opponent. And if you are caught cheating you should never be able to fight in a ring ever again
nah man reward him with a big PPV fight and invent a new WBC 152 pound title for Margarito or Manny Pacquiao can lie and say they were 154 pound champs when we all know Cotto was. And Manny made Cotto go back down to 147. Cotto is the true champ!!
@matthew2779 I agree he should have been arrested. He claims he didn't know but like Manny said..." it's common sense". There is no way ever that he should have been allowed to box again. Thank God Naazim Richardson saw that block of plaster that this cheater was going to use against Mosley. You could tell Margarito knew he was caught just by his body language when he walked into the ring for his ass whipping. The best fight ever was Cotto's revenge.
For sure Margaritos team cheated using those handwraps. IMO if there is %100 evidence that either the fighter or the trainer tampers with gloves, loads hand wraps ,ETC : They should get an attempted murder charge. Boxing is dangerous enough even playing by the rules

So nasty, just like Resto vs Collins. Nobody knew what they were watching, and Collins was ruined so bad he ended his own life. Extremely tragic circumstances that Cotto was quite fortunate to avoid. Billy Collins never got a rematch against Luis Resto, but Cotto's subsequent trashing of Margarito in their return bout felt like redemption for both of them.
@@raulcitraroLuis resto was worst he removed padding and put plaster of clay in his gloves basically punching Billy Collin’s with bricks for 12 rounds and Billy Collin’s never was knocked down. If you look at pictures of Billy Collin’s after the fight his face was much worse than Cotto’s. Both of these events were devastating though.
Cotto did great for 5 rounds because he kept moving. In the 6th he was getting caught on the ropes,it was to difficult to keep moving like he was. He expected that he couild fight for a couple of rounds and be okay, little did he know that Margarito had concrete in his gloves. In the 7th round you could just feel what poor Cotto was up against. He went from being okay to being in bad shape that quickly because of what he was being hit with. What a shame, such a nice guy and great fighter.
I remember being a young pr in USA prideful that night watching and it did feel ruff when cotto took the knee after the beating, finding out margarito had the plaster makes it sickening. He took the pride that cotto had so perfectly at the time
It was never proven he used plaster Paris wraps in this fight. I have seen cottos face messed up in multiple fights. AM was never suspended because no evidence. AM was shaking hand ms with everyone after fight and had them on in the ring forever after fight.
This loaded gloves thing was built up by media. There was never evidence on that, Cotto doesn’t know how to lose, he is always making excuses. He even said he won against Canelo and they robbed him. If Margarito ever had loaded gloves he wouldn’t fought again

3:44, first time I ever saw a boxer take their own shirt off. Cotto is a legend, and was ready to fight on this night lol, didn't even wait on his cornerman.
I think everyone can agree that this fight stole some of cottos prime. Margacheato should have been fined and never allowed to fight again man. Cotto was on top at this time. Had he not lost he was going to go on the pound for pound list. This is the cotto that Floyd avoided. The cotto that was at ringside at his fight against ricky hatton. What did Floyd do, retire and fight the man five years later after he lost 2x already. He would go ahead and do that to pacman as well. Then he wonders why he doesn't get the praise that he should. Floyd you were great but not like you say you were.
Honestly this was one of the best fights I had ever seen up until Margarito's next fight against Mosley when we found out he was cheating. I still remember celebrating Margarito's win with my dad, we were so hyped we couldn't believed the great Cotto had been defeated by what looked to us like pure heart and determination. Months later we were so disappointed.
I remember the build up to this fight. It was incredible. My sister was in Vegas that weekend and she said is was all about boxing at he bar, and the tables. I watched the fight at home, and was blown away in real time. Then I found out the truth...

Yes, in court… Before the fight with Shane Mosley, I don’t remember his name but Shane’s trainer noticed some dust on the bandage, and they make him to take it off and start again… and the exhibit was taken to court… indeed was something illegal that hardened with his sweating, after this Margarito was punished with only 1 year off and they remove trainer’s license for life… also you can notice cracks in the bandage in this fight, clothing doesn’t crack
Padding didn't prevent Margarito from absorbing all of those hard punches from Cotto and shrugging them off as if they were rain drops! No Matter what Margarito could take some punishment without flinching smh!

I'm not 100% sure regarding the plaster situation. I don't want to touch on that subject as of this moment. But Margarito kept Cotto at the end of all his punches, and he looked massive in the ring during this fight. Cotto also got hit more than he should've been hit, and for whatever reason Margarito just seemed to have a mental edge over Cotto in this fight, and didn't respect Cotto's power. It's really hard to beat a bigger man if you let the bigger man get full extension on his punches. Plus, when that bigger man doesn't respect your power, and has world class punch resistance, and stamina-things can get quite complicated in there. The plaster situation robbed us from what could've been a legendary series of fights, because these two fighters have styles that create entertaining fights.
Once you heard about it and watch from the 2nd round..you can tell Margarito definitely had loaded hand wraps…Cotto was backing up already from just regular places punches
This is a stupid comment, the confidence that comes with loaded gloves will give you is also an immeasurable advantage. You would know keep your gaurd tight and push forward, you dont have to land anything clean or even in registered stricking zones. Just touch him on the shoulder, anywhere on the arms, hip etc etc knowing you're going to hurt him. Even if you get hurt you're confidence is to be "thats fine, just push forward he'll wear down". Its almost like you're saying being on epo's wont give you a mental advantage, as well as ever time cotto got touched it hurt and caused damage.
Cotto got beat fair and square it was never proven that Margarito cheated on this fight Cotto just felt that power and couldn’t handle the pressure coming from Margarito
Just one question, if Margarito was loading his gloves his entire career how did the commissions and the other opponents corner "who's allowed to be there during the wrapping" never catch him?
Because it was a set up, the comission was there when Capetillo was wrapping Margarito and Nazeem ( mosleys trainer) also, Nazeem made Capetillo rewrapp Margarito 5 times until Nazeem said there was something (yes, 5 brand new wrapps)and took the wrapping somewhere while the comission did nothing instead of instantly bag the wrapping. Just look at this fight, When Margarito starts getting to Cotto its over. And Cotto said that antonio had the plaster here. The second fight is EXACTLY the same,Cotto winning on points until Margarito gets him in the later rounds. he was going to knock Cotto again until they stopped the fight. no plaster and same result ( ignoring the bs stopagge)
@@carlosgaleotegandara7812 Exactly! Finally someone with good reasoning, just look at Cotto's face in the 10 round of second fight, all bruised and he struggles breathing.
@@carlosgaleotegandara7812 You're so full of shit. This fight is far different from the 2nd one. Cotto is obviously taking a beating and reacting to every shot in this bout whereas he puts an absolute beating on Margarito in the 2nd fight. Margarito was a straight up bum without his plaster.
@@ivanoliver9532 Cotto's face in the 2nd fight looks nothing like his face in the first. Also why did Margarito fall off so hard then? The moment he got caught he gets destroyed by an old Mosley/Pacquiao & Cotto then wrecks him. Margarito was a club fighter with a good chin. That's all he was until PoP.
No You didn't know that nothing was ever proven for this fight as a matter of fact margarito nvr USED key word USED margarito NEVER USED loaded gloves in a fight he was caught TRYING to use loaded gloves BEFORE BEFORE the fight vs Mosley he was caught trying to cheat was nvr caught actually cheating and he was only caught once of doin that
Those gloves were definitely loaded for this fight and I'd wager for his fight against Paul Williams as well. Loaded gloves or no, Cotto would have won this fight had he attacked the body more. He was tee'ing off on Tony.
As a PR, I was a fan of Margarito. I was at this fight and remember thinking these are two warriors fighting. I thought Cotto would win by decision because eventually I thought Antonio would get frustrated and just start chasing Cotto around. I, at the time, did not think Margarito was a hard puncher, I just thought Cintron was soft and with the exception of Williams, Margarito’s competition was soft as well. Loaded gloves, or the perception of, never came to mind until the Mosley fight. It’s unfortunate that we may never know the truth.
As a Mexican I don't count this fight as a victory. Cotto won both fights. I don't count any fight of Margarito until he started losing. Dude is a disgrace.
Had to come back and watch this fight because I had a couple random thoughts about it. It's an odd way to think about things but I think Margarito was especially deadly with loaded gloves compared to other fighters. Great stamina and a legendary chin and never stopped throwing, how could you even stop him from getting hits on you? Also, regardless of the gloves I think Mosley was always a worse matchup for Marg than Cotto style-wise. Mosley's hard right hand was way better at keeping Marg off balance and at the right range than Cotto's left hook. Mosley was also really strong and one of the toughest guys in any weight class both mentally and physically.
Margarito was a terrific fighter, no matter how many punches he takes, he just keeps coming. He always gave everything he had everytime he fought. He was a problem for top fighters at 147 back then. It's just disappointing that he/his team chose to cheat despite of these traits
Except with Mosley where his defense of just banking on his chin and skull really backfired. He should have actually learned some defense instead of cheating.

June 3, 2021 www.ringtv.com/622540-jean-pascal-tests-positive-for-a-fourth-banned-substance-epo/ While Pacquiao at 42 yo, is scheduled to fight on August 21, 2021 in Las Vegas, NV against the undefeated / unified WBC & IBF 147lbs champion E. Spence an eleven years younger. Spence is much bigger, heavier, taller, has longer reach. Spence Jr is the current # 1 Welterweight plus the # 5 best Pound for Pound in the ranking as of June 14, 2021. Important FACTs: Pacquiao started pro at 106 lbs, become the 'Lineal' champion at 112 lbs at age of 19 way back 1998. Moves up in bunch of weight classes, wins multiple titles including 'Lineal', then become the 'Lineal champion at 147 lbs by defeating Bradley way back 2016 at age of 37. Greatness is measured through adversity. For a fighter or a warrior to be called THE Greatest he/she must be able to bounce back from his/her worst difficulties. Barrera (still Barrera is greater), Z. Raheem beat E. Morales (still Morales is greater), C. John beat Marquez (still Marquez is greater), Mayweather Jr beat Pacquiao (still Manny is way greater). Manny is greater than Floyd Jr and M. Ali. Why? Because Manny did an EXTRAORDINARY feat that Floyd and Ali didn't. No one in history of boxing that a fighter become a 'LINEAL' champion at 112 lbs vs C. Sasakul (at age of 19) then moved up in multiple weight classes, win 'LINEAL' titles in between , and then become a 'LINEAL' champion at 147 lbs vs T. Bradley (at age of 37). Pacquiao a 5'6" tall, started at 106 lbs FILIPINO fighting away his comfort and won ALL his 8 weight div. championships OUTSIDE the Philippines including his win vs K. Thurman (at age of 40). At age of 42, Pacquiao still fighting and scheduled to fight the #1 welterweight, the #5 Pound for Pound, bigger, taller, heavier, longer reach, 11 years younger, unified and undefeated in Spence. When we're talking about Pound for Pound greatest fighter or warrior who ever lived we are talking about the fighters/warriors 'ENTIRE' career. The 'ENTIRE' accomplishments. Being undefeated doesn't mean you're the Greatest. Losing is part of the sport. The greats Ray Robinson has 19 losses, Henry Armstrong has 21 losses, Ali has 5 losses, Duran has 16 losses, Archie Moore has 23 losses and they're on list of top 1-10 Greatest Of All Time. You know, I’ve been thinking that how the hell could Margaritos team could load him up knowing that the boxing committee it’s looking to his wraps, and by looking this fight, it seems that he destroyed Cotto by hurting his body
Antonio Margarito was the better fighter throughout the entire fight. Active, initiative, going forward all the time. Miguel Cotto only evading, evading, evading. Passive, Passive, Passive. In the end the better fighter won. And now his fans are inventing fairytales about plaster in his gloves. Margarito used plaster against Shane Mosley and not against Miguel Cotto. Cotto lost, because he has no heart and no initiative. And not because of the gloves.

That first good body shot shook Cotto a bit too much in hindsight. This fight is damn shame. I really believe it would've been Pacquiao Mayweather and Cotto instead of just the first 2 as legends of this era. Cotto's first loss should've been to an all time great in a Mega fight.
While its true Cotto lost something from this fight, he still seemed to get hurt by Marg in the rematch and with 10 oz gloves as well, and marg was really slow in his comeback. That was really dirty to use the plaster strip, not a full cast but a strip probably solidified his shots. But lets not forget; margarito did walk through Cottos shots. He was never hurt by him nor respected him.
When i waa watching this fight i had to repeat that scene... i think this show the tremendous power of the uppercut of margarito. The punch is predictable but i think cotto didnt see it coming

Cotto also got hit more than he should've been hit, and for whatever reason Margarito just seemed to have a mental edge over Cotto in this fight, and didn't respect Cotto's power.

Such a good hard fight !! And good win !!
Manny Pacquiao and Mosley fixed this dudes problem.
Margarito was a terrific fighter, no matter how many punches he takes, he just keeps coming. He always gave everything he had everytime he fought. He was a problem for top fighters at 147 back then. It's just disappointing that he/his team chose to cheat despite of these traits
.
.
Except with Mosley where his defense of just banking on his chin and skull really backfired. He should have actually learned some defense instead of cheating.

Margarito's first time at MGM Grand.

I remember losing 100 dollars on this fight. I knew something was up with this fight when I was watching it live becuz we all as boxing fans knew margarito wasn’t better than Cotto and Cotto was coming into himself as one of the best fighters pound of pound in his weight class. I took that bet becuz I knew there was no way Margarito could beat him and the way Cotto was taking knees in the 11th I was like come on something isn’t right and margarito punches weren’t even thrown with heat, he was slow and he kept stalking as if he knew something we didn’t and then what do u know approximately 7 to 8 months later he fight Mosley and the scandal came out and it all made sense and then I went back and watched the Paul Williams fight and was like yeah he had loaded gloves in that fight as well.

In August of 2008, upon the 3rd announcement of Floyd Mayweather Jr's retirement last June 2008 here were the top 10 Welterweight ranking:
Take note: On March 15, 2008 Manny Pacquiao fought J.M. Marquez at 130 lbs and in June 28, 2008 Pacquiao fought David Diaz at 135 lbs.
1,) Antonio Margarito (WBA)
2.) Miguel Cotto
3.) Paul Williams (WBO)
4.) Shane Mosley
5.) Joshua Clottey (IBF)
6.) Carlos Quintana
7.) Kermit Cintron
8.) Andre Berto (WBC)
9.) Luis Collazo
10.) Jackson Bonsu
Remember that Pacquiao fought 4 out of the TOP 5 Welterweights during this August 2008 ranking. He fought Cotto, Clottey, Margarito and Mosley. Pacquiao is the smallest among all these welterweight fighters and started pro at 98 lbs and become a Lineal + WBC champion at 112 lbs. Pacquiao is fighting outside his comfort zones unlike Mayweather. Fact is all of Pacquiao's 8 division title championships were all held outside his country.
While Mayweather Jr, announces retirements for several times. 1st was after the A. Gatti fight, 2nd was after the Dela Hoya fight (he refuse to rematch Dela Hoya), 3rd was June 2008 (after the Hatton fight), 4th was after A. Berto fight, 5th after the C. McGregor fight (an MMA fighter with ZERO Boxing record).
For large portions of his illustrious career, Mayweather was a master of timing, both in and out of the ring. Despite his vast repertoire of skills, “Money” was a master at stacking the odds in his favour (It Means CAREFULLY SELECTED His Opponents) whether it meant dragging Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez up to 147lbs (the MARQUEZ Fight was at 144 lbs Catch Weight BUT Mayweather weighed 146 lbs and paid $700, 000 fine) or telling Canelo Alvarez that he couldn’t weigh more than 152lbs CATCH WEIGHT despite the super-welter limit being 2lbs heavier (this was a WBC / WBA UNIFICATION fight).
Mayweather Jr got caught administering 750 ml of saline IV illegally.
