  • In the last segment of the Craig Monson interview he answers questions about his diet, Jimel Barnes being beat up by Baby Avenues, OG Cutes judging a friendly competition with Stanley "Tookie" Williams, and his use of steroids in the 1980s.
This is the first and only time Big Mons has publicly told the story of this most talked about incident in the history of the Crips and Bloods.
Monson has a newly released book- link below.

The Monson brothers are really good people. When I went there to train in their backyard with Teddie Monson 8 years ago he is a very down to earth dude. He didn't look at me differently because I wasn't black. All he cared was about getting you fit and swollen. He left me with a wealth of info on muscle growth and good advise on finding a good woman. Now I'm 50 and still motivated and pumped.

To be honest Craig is a legend even AWAY from gang culture. Big monson had some of the freakiest musculature genetics I ever 👀 seen. Tookie was monstrous too but like Craig said he wasn't that ripped up. Graig legit looked like a damn CGI character in person on Venice. He had giant bones mixed with symmetry and giant muscle bellies on top of that which is VERY rare to see in life period. Some people are husky but swole like big tookie and THOSE samoan type bodies but monson was veiny ripped to the bone and dense crazy combo. That SHIT is literally unheard of. He's the only person that I ever heard of too swole and freakish for BB show requirements in the 80s.
They would purposefully give him 3rd 4th or 5th place just because he was actually OVER shadowing mass over every other competitor especially their white hope types. He was even bigger than Sergio Olivia. ALL my bodybuilding iron addict REAL ones know what I'm talking about. CT Fletcher did an interview with Monson that highlights and confirms ALL of this bodybuilding legend surrounding Craig. If Craig was a competition age today, he would 100% be Mr. Olympia. He had every qualifying factor. They used to say he was *too big* for the image of the bodybuilding back then. nowadays it's the number 1 qualifying factor to win ironically. As a lifelong 🏋 lifter myself I STILL can't understand how big Craig was able to keep his stomach tied in tight washboard abs and ripped at over 300 lbs yr round. I don't think anyone else NOT even Ronnie Coleman has ever done that to THIS very day. Most of us usually get that swollen turtle shell looking stomach at that high weight automatically no matter what.
    #Salute big legend Craig

I remember when I went by his crib, he signed my book. He told me that when he went to go see my pops in The hospital, my punk ass sister wouldn't let him in to come him. That hurt my heart dearly that she did that and i didnt know cause i was flying back n forth from Vegas to L.A. checking on him. Me and my sister fell out after my pops funeral 5 years ago this May cause she was keeping people, family, and my pops old buddies like Monson, Rick Ross and others. Rick came when i was there. But Craig Monson is a living legend and i was deeply pissed when he told me that.

One of the best KevMac interviews ever. I learned so much about the times back then. I didn't know OG Craig was so close to Bunchy Carter and had run-ins with Karenga, and was locked up with Geronimo Pratt and went to San Quinn not too long after George Jackson and the Solidad Brothers. OG Craig was surrounded by so much Black History, beyond just the streets and the gangs and the formation of the sets. This was beyond all of that.

Great series and tons of insight from a South LA Legend dare I say Icon. Mr. Craig Munson thank you for your insight, knowledge and experience of life in the late 50s and into the 60s, 70s and the early 80s.
Not only did you work out with the Legendary Tookie to Mr. Hollywood Arnold S.
Don’t flex in the pic Craig-he did anyway.
To me it’s incredible how all these guys are tied together. From Bird, Bunchy Carter to Big Craig Munson, Raymond Washington to Tookie and can’t forget OG Cutes.
This is how you know the stories about the History of the Crips is true.
Plus he mentioned Jamel Barnes as well and that just speaks for himself. I love hearing about working out and his diet and then the Extras just to get a little more cut.
I love hearing about Arkansas and that’s where my Moms from.
Anyway much thanks Mr. Craig Munson, Baby Smac-you are appreciated a lot and no doubt. Thanks once again Big Kev Mac!!
    Peace!!
    #Salute!!

Big Willie Robinson, he drove the Hemi "King Daytona" & his wife Tomiko drove the "Queen Daytona". Only her Daytona is still around, it got "sympathetically" restored, his has never been located/found

i have always loved and worshiped Arnold but now my new idol is Big Craig Monson. I'm 46 and have been pushing and banging weights since 1985 and Craig seems like such a salt of the earth guy.
