yall. "plus sized" just means wears above XL. XL varies so much from country to company to gender. a mens XL and a Japanese XL and a Gucci XL are not all going to be the exact same measurement. that's what she is communicating, that she generally buys and wears over an XL.
I've met people who still consider themselves plus size even though they're closer to anorexia than anything nowadays. Doesn't mean it's healthier in any way ofc, but it goes to show that it's indeed a matter of perception. It really is only a matter of self evaluation, and each has their own ways of doing it.

There are also most certainly people like myself who are considered fat by some and not fat at all by others while simultaneously sitting right in the middle zone, where it depends on exactly how much I’m lifting in a given time span, etc. For me, my weight isn’t something I’m focused on aesthetically and it doesn’t have a serious impact for me, thus I do not identify as overweight, even though plenty of people have the opinion that I am and my doctor tells me could stand to gain or lose 15 pounds depending on what season sport I’m competing in at the moment 🤷🏻♀️ y’all can be confused but don’t be rude.

Life lesson: A photographer / stylist or even my hair dresser is more likely to listen to me and hear me than a Healthcare professional or doctor has ever done. I've experienced that over multiple countries, multiple decades.
I mean...yeah makes sense, it's doctors responsibility to make sure their client live past 50 while a photographer/stylish only cares about getting the dough...
@@niharikamenon-iz8xu I think you missed the point that the original commenter was making. The irony is that a doctor, who IS supposed to care about you and your health, will not listen to you or your concerns. There are many people who voice concerns about their health, body, and comfort that are often flat out dismissed by their doctor, so the issues persist. A photographer/stylist is more likely to listen to their client and what they want/need for their satisfaction than a doctor who is supposed to keep their patient satisfied with their health.
@@CabbageKin_ Isn't that how it SUPPOSED to works? Doctor's job is not to SATISFY the customer...their job is to save them. For eg: A mother who yells at u for eating unhealthy cause it's bad for you and a friend who will not say anything cause they JUST DON'T CARE So yeah, a drug dealer won't say anything about the addiction the customer has while a doctor WILL...and that's a good thing
@@niharikamenon-iz8xu You misunderstood what I said again. A doctor often DOES NOT LISTEN to their patient and that is the problem; their patient's concerns about their health should be heard. I'll say it again more clearly: There are many people who are constantly miserable, have deteriorating health, or even DIE because a doctor is NOT LISTENING to their patient's concerns. That is the irony, that a stylist or photographer CARES MORE about who they are working with than the doctor who is supposed to keep them HEALTHY AND ALIVE. Yes, both sides have a job to do, and ironically the one that should be more concerned, have a personal connection, and have open communication with their patient is not. It's also extremely ignorant and flat out rude to compare a stylist to a drug dealer. As a former stylist, I can confirm that there are many people who go to stylists in hard times. When post-break up, to prepare for life altering events, in the middle of their gender discovery, and many other personal scenarios, people will turn to stylists for wardrobe help. This expression of self that is tailored SPECIFICALLY for the client is important for not only the client's satisfaction but their mental health. Same for a field like photography that is just another visual expression of self. When someone is happy with themselves, they generally feel more comfortable and better about themselves. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Do not devalue jobs just cuz it doesn't require a doctorate. Many of us do our best to help people with whatever special qualities we have.

Mixed people can identify as being black or identify as being biracial and give different answers that are all true. You can identify as fat or overweight or plus sized or any other number of things that are true. I don’t identify as “plus size” because I am not a model but I will openly say I am fat and overweight
I think what they mean by “identifies as” in this context is like “this is a label she is comfortable using/thing she is fine being referred to as” - I would say most people have preferences when it comes to language used to describe their body!
@@christalcavanaugh I’m mixed race and still don’t understand. I can’t choose whether or not I’m black and Hispanic I just AM lol. I mean, you don't see people from Korea saying things like "I identify as Asian!" Or someone who isn't vegan saying things like "I identify as carnivore!" Am I missing a bigger issue here?
the difference is the term in question has a particular history. two people who look very alike can have very different labels for their bodies-plus size, fat, overweight, the list goes on. people vary wildly in what they choose and some find other terms offensive. by saying she identifies as plus size OP is saying that she chose this label for herself. that is the literal entire point of this short: that he won’t make assumptions of others bodies & identities. that’s why. it’s a tiny bit of semantic courtesy and it’s not that serious.
Plus sized: "A single label does not defines you and everyone has a different perspective of themselves and we should respect that." Being short: "Wear heels lmao"
I mean. When people say 'plus size' what they mean is 'i have fat somewhere on my body' but that tells you nothing about how their weight sits. Maybe it sits on their stomach in a way they hate but on their butt in a way they like. Maybe they have big thighs but a narrow waist. Maybe they need to know how to angle their face to not show a double chin. Basically what he's saying is 'plus size isn't a label that has a pose. But I can tell you how to find your good angle if you have a double chin or don't wanna emphasize your hips.' When someone says 'im short' you have a full grasp of their situation, because most torsos are about the same size so you just. Lengthen the legs, which is the biggest place of variation. Wear clothing that makes you look longer, put on heels, and pose in ways that foreshorten you and make you look taller.
Different people identify as short, no? For some people, 511 is "short" for some people that's tall. It's a qualitative term, it's also relative. Same with plus sized
Thank you so much for this! I never considered the need to word things differently in termsof what I needed or wanted during a shoot. I've kinda relegated myself to not taking pictures because while I can take a really nice selfie, I cant seem to pose well without feedback or visual confirmation and the photographer usually captures very unflattering photos of me. Knowing that it's just a matter of communication makes it a lot easier to have a mental picture of what I'm going for.
Thank you. Just. Thank you. Only one time have I ever had someone know how to photograph me. Most of the time I cry looking Ng at photos because I have been overweight no matter how hard I try. And one day I won a free photo at the mall. The girl was big too. Her ass climbed up a LADDER and gave me specific instructions on how to pose and I swear she boosted my self confidence through the roof. Talk about looking at things from the right perspective. Even if that perspective is from 4 feet up a ladder.
"Identify as plus size"... what does that even mean. It sounds ridiculous, It's either you're plus size or not.. for example, if someone like Lizzo, doesn't "identify" as plus size, doesnt that mean she isnt plus size????
Is a 12 plus size? They’re the average in the US, but also they wear an XL. What about someone at a healthy weight range who carries it all in the ass? Or around the middle? What about someone who looks slimthick, but is actually an overweight BMI? It’s almost like… categories have a fluid definition based off who’s assigning them? So it’s important to ask for specifics before making generalizations?
Plus sized is used in clothing, and clothes aren't always consistent with their measurements. It's not the same as being fat. In this case, "she identifies as plus sized" means she acknowledges that's the range of clothes that fit her and uses that label to describe herself.
What is labeled as "plus size poses" are a type of pose where everything that doesn't confirm to the narrow beauty standard is purposely turned away from the camera to "hide the imperfections". The most well-known one is the "fake waist" where both hands are placed on the waist and squished in to make the waist appear smaller. You see the same pose in almost every plus size shoot. I'm not happy about this at all. Because everyone IS different and we should celebrate and show of bodies of ALL sizes. Thank you for working WITH your clients! This video is a refreshing one ❤ keep up the good work
Except we should not be celebrating and showing off bodies of all sizes, if someone is overtly thin and severely underweight then no they should not be celebrated, same with being overweight. What should be celebrated is being at a healthy weight, we shouldn't glorify being overweight or being underweight.

I've seen a lot of plus size girls take amazing pics yet none seem to have this specific issue, my go to is to use the very up high camera to find some definition, but when people take your pic at cons it's hard to even ask how to pose to look decent 😅😅😅
I love this!!! I always feel so silly when I try to pose because I feel like my body doesn’t fit the standard “model poses” and I end up looking awful or just plain silly. And sometimes silly is good! But I appreciate that you take the time to get to know your models and set up poses that are flattering for them and how they see themselves! ❤❤❤❤
It's actually sad how hard he is trying not to offend obese people. I appreciate the kindness, but I believe that encouraging behavior like addiction to food that is most likely caused by mental illness isn't a good thing. If you truly care about someone, you tell them what's wrong and help them do better. Putting them in a delusion "of everything is fine, it's all society's fault" doesn't actually help. I know it's none of my business, but it does make me upset to see other people struggling or harming themselves. Sorry if i sounded like an @ss.
Lets be real. Plus size (which can start at SIZE 10 PANTS(!!)) does not always = obese. My mother is 6'0, within the healthy weight guidelines for her height, and still wears size 12/14 pants. I'm 5'0, very slightly above the "ideal weight" guidelines for my height (5lbs), and wear size 10 pants. Why? Because I have a huge fucking ass. I'm a small in shirts, dresses, have a 30 inch ribcage, yet am a LARGE in pants. Am I obese? No. I'm slightly overweight, active, and go to the gym frequently. I think the "identifies as plus size," thing is kinda stupid, but I guess both my mom and I are technically "plus sized" and would never consider ourselves as such.
the buzz words in this video are sending me lollll. plus size = overweight / fat you either are overweight or not it’s really not that hard to figure out
Except that a lot of people teeter back and forth, am I supposed to identify as skinny when I’m competing track because I dropped 15 pounds and start identifying at obese when I gain that 15 back during powerlifting season 🤔 or do I just not consider myself overweight ever even when I am because it doesn’t really matter either way? The answer isn't to make people change their identity less. The answer is to learn to be better at handling uncertainty. Also we in the US have a history of hating people who aren't like ourselves for one reason or another, it's been a problem since our independence from Great Britain, we're slowly shedding it but it'll take time. I personally don't think we'll ever get to a point where everyone is accepted as they are in the present moment, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
yall. "plus sized" just means wears above XL. XL varies so much from country to company to gender. a mens XL and a Japanese XL and a Gucci XL are not all going to be the exact same measurement. that's what she is communicating, that she generally buys and wears over an XL.
Fat 😹
@@Atlasosastupid 😹
I'm technically not plus size anymore, lost enough weight. However my mid section is still huge to me so I'm plus size in my opinion.
I've met people who still consider themselves plus size even though they're closer to anorexia than anything nowadays. Doesn't mean it's healthier in any way ofc, but it goes to show that it's indeed a matter of perception.
It really is only a matter of self evaluation, and each has their own ways of doing it.
Well as long as that’s what you “identify” as lol
You can’t really be plus size “by opinion”. You are plus size based on the actual size of the clothes you wear. If you’re an XL or under, you’re not plus size 😂
@Emily Griffith clothing sizes vary by brand though, they're not reliable
@@joereplier they very slightly and by country but the average size of a woman in the US is a size 16. Most stores go up to at least a size 14 “straight sizes”. So if you find yourself needing to shop at plus size stores or you’re the very top of what “normal” stores might carry, that’s what plus size is
What a considerate kind person omg thank you for being you!

Everyone it getting mad about him saying you “identify” as overweight. Yes it’s true you can be fat and not consider being overweight a part of your identity.
There is no such thing as not seeing your weight as a part of your identity. If you are overweight or underweight and you don't care it's okay, but you still are 😂 you can't manipulate reality based on what you like or don't like to be called or seen as.
@@jos1109_ he is right, i identity as table
@@jos1109_bro ive seen your replies on a few comments now and you need to go exercise some critical reading and thinking skills. op never said anything about ignoring reality. also you should check up on what constitutes identity cause your views are very limited and are positioning you to get easily offended when people arent using language reductive enough for your liking.
@@followingheartlines yes 'bro', a rather pointless comment, with which you did not contradict me on any point. You must have a lot of ego to think I was offended by your way of thinking, I wasn't, I like to try to reason with people when they don't think logically but only sentimentally. Apparently you can't understand, because when I say you ignore reality by hiding behind the question of whether or not you identify with something, that's exactly what you do. It's not about having an open mind, it's about having the ability to be able to think without getting carried away by other people's thinking, to not choose the easiest way of thinking just because you don't want to make the effort to accept that not everything revolves around you.
I'm sorry but if you have a noticeably excessive amount of body fat, you're overweight, plain and simple. You can't change physical descriptors just by choosing to identify or not identify with them. That doesn't take away from your intrinsic value and whether or not if you wanna put in work to make those changes is entirely up to you.

For eg: A mother who yells at u for eating unhealthy cause it's bad for you and a friend who will not say anything cause they JUST DON'T CARE
So yeah, a drug dealer won't say anything about the addiction the customer has while a doctor WILL...and that's a good thing
That is often the government's fault tho. Doctors are so busy that they can't simply spend the ideal amount of time on each patient.
I wanted some plus sized pose references for drawings ;^;
Wow I never looked at posing this way. For me I just get so awkward unless I'm having fun n goofing off or something but for serious, meant-to-slay kind of photos I JUST CANT. I went to a family gathering and in front of all my cousins and aunts and uncles my grandparents told me I’ve gotten “fat”, I need to stop eating bread, I need to exercise more, I look more round, and they squeezed my arms and midsection. It was so mortifying. My cousins wedding is coming up and I’ll be seeing my grandparents again and I’m just lacking in so much confidence on how I should carry my body… I’d actually love to see more of the poses you did with your friend so I have at least something to hold onto when I stand around my grandparents and take photos

Mixed people can identify as being black or identify as being biracial and give different answers that are all true. You can identify as fat or overweight or plus sized or any other number of things that are true. I don’t identify as “plus size” because I am not a model but I will openly say I am fat and overweight
If it's literally the same thing, then why do you care?
I think what they mean by “identifies as” in this context is like “this is a label she is comfortable using/thing she is fine being referred to as” - I would say most people have preferences when it comes to language used to describe their body!
Plus the term "plus size" doesn't have an exact qualification so some people may see her and consider her plus size, some may not.

Yeah. I will say there isn't one singular way to be plus sized so maybe that's what he's getting at. Like I'm plus sized but my body doesn't look like her's. I hold fat differently. But a few videos that includes different plus size body types would solve the issue imo.

I see everyone going mad in the comments about the "identifies as plus size." I mean.... I get both sides' arguments here, but it's silly, isn't it?
I can't beleive people "identify" as plus size. That is just rediculous. Either you're overweight or you're not. Get over yourself

Plus sized: "A single label does not defines you and everyone has a different perspective of themselves and we should respect that."
Being short: "Wear heels lmao"
But I can tell you how to find your good angle if you have a double chin or don't wanna emphasize your hips.'
When someone says 'im short' you have a full grasp of their situation, because most torsos are about the same size so you just. Lengthen the legs, which is the biggest place of variation. Wear clothing that makes you look longer, put on heels, and pose in ways that foreshorten you and make you look taller.
@@valiantknight6364 Most torsos are NOT the same size. Short people may have short torsos with long legs, short legs with long torsos, or both.

I recently started cosplaying a bit more seriously and I've faced a bunch of insecurities I forgot I had, but one I always wondered was how to take better face pics since my double chin is kinda pronounced and makes me look...weird. I've seen a lot of plus size girls take amazing pics yet none seem to have this specific issue, my go to is to use the very up high camera to find some definition, but when people take your pic at cons it's hard to even ask how to pose to look decent 😅😅😅

Why do people use the word “Identify” as if it’s a option, like “ I Identify as plus sized” it’s either your fat or not, simple. “Identify” comes form the word “Identity”
which means “ it’s a FACT of who someone is or what something is” like this lady in the video- It’s a Fact that she is fat, or she is a girl, or it’s a Fact that the guy is not fat, so he can not identify as “plus size”
