It was about the Vietnam War, he was playing choppers, bombs, guns and people screaming.

Jimi said he played the anthem " the way the air is today, the air is slightly static." Yes he was simulating the sounds of bombs, machine guns, sirens, screams of war. Jimi was never in battle . He was in the 101st Airborne for about 13 months in 1961-62 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky , just prior to the Vietnam War. He was discharged after breaking his ankle in a training jump, well that's the official story anyways. You should really listen to his song Machine Gun from the 1970 album Band Of Gypsy's. 12 minutes of heavy ass guitar, a protest against the violence of war, its legendary.

Jimi is imitating the lyrics of the song. Bombs and other effects such as ambulances.

It's a shame he didn't live to see that performance go on define an era. He mixed in Taps for his fallen comrades. And he's playing that Fender upside down because he was left handed. No one to this day has been able to rival his unique style though many have tried.

Jimi's dad says Randy Hanson is as close to Jimi as you can get. True story Randy Hanson played at a fairgrounds south of Seattle me and my gf at the time got there real early and a guy with a vest on a hanger over his shoulder walked up to a security guard and asked if he could see Randy because he has something for him from Jimi's dad. Yes it was a vest of Jimi's.

Spot on bro , It was an anti war song and a protest to play the anthem and add sounds that are meant to represent bombs dropping and the engines of planes.

Jimi joined the Marines just before heavy US involvement in "The US War in Vietnam" (this is how the Vietnamese describe it). The Judge gave him a choice of jail or joining the military (this was common back then). He was discharged early after earning his paratrooper wings because of his failure to adapt any further. His Sergeant recommended the discharge and he received an honorable discharge. Jimi was not a violent person. He was anti war. This rendition of the national anthem is filled with anti Vietnam war sentiment. The sounds he made with his guitar were intended to replicate the sounds of planes dropping bombs, the explosions, and people screaming and crying. At 12:23 he plays "Taps", which is a simple tune only played at military funerals, by a single bugler. This performance is iconic! Jimi died at 27. He still is and always will be the GOAT!

It's important to take note that Hendrix also included a few notes from Taps in here - another US military tune.

You should check out Santana-Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock sometime, the long version. Santana had dropped acid, thinking they were to go on later but they had to go on while he was still tripping. He later said he hallucinated that his guitar was turning into a snake and he was wrestling with it. The whole band was fantastic and everyone got a solo.

1969 Woodstock!! I was 11 yrs old & wanted to be a Flower Child. My dad wasn’t having none of it!! Anyway, according to Google Hendrix cunningly decided to use the music’s own bombastic nature to project the violence carried out under his nation’s flag!! Jimi was the last artist at Woodstock. He didn’t get on stage until Monday morning due to inclement weather the night before! What I didn’t know is that The Rolling Stones turned down performing at Woodstock!! 🌺🌸🌺

You should watch some videos of Jimi talking to people. Interesting guy. Interesting perspectives, considering he didn’t have the internet and history of the world, at his fingertips. His perspective is created by things he’s sees and how he reacts to it. Like everyone in his time I guess lol but hearing Jimi speak is cool.

@@BarbButler I get my goat up when there are clear erroneous statements made in regard to all things Jimi, due to people too lazy to do their research. If this reactor has gone to the effort to react to something I've watched literally a million times then he should go the extra bit further and do his homework otherwise he's creating a falsehood around someone who is not here to defend himself. Jimi took a lot of pride and effort with his image: an image that was a match to his creative genius. Guess work belittes Jimi's inimitable style.
