    The first job for me, would be oil them door hinges or stop opening and closing the door.😀

    I've come up with a new name for Kenny, call him Squeaky. Those door hinges could sure use some lubrication. But as you said, it's getting there, slowly but surely.

    Mike the truck looks 100% better than when you started, question would one of your shop mechanics be willing to come out and show you how to change injectors? and if I remember correctly mirror heat should be it's own switch...long time ago, hang in there, remember You have a piece of history on your hands.....Take care............see ya

    Okay I finished the popcorn and watched you struggle with that old dashboard. My first advice is to get some rolling steps so that if you are standing on the edge of that doorway, you can step back onto the rolling step ramp as it shouldn't just be a step wide but more of a flat place say eighteen inches wide by maybe two and a half feet long and then have two or more like as about four of them was it me. Now you have a flat spot to work from or be somewhat safer anyway. At our ages, we just don't heal as fast and believe it or not... more deaths from falling are from six feet or less. I think that takes in for guys like me who walk into stuff and knock our brain into tomorrow before you see one white line. Second thing is just for my ocd. Get a master turn off for the batteries in the cab with you if you can as its the pits crawling in and out a half dozen times... don't ask me how I know. I pulled wrenches most all my life and for the life of me, tore more stuff up for not turning off the power when behind the dash. I can't remember if Pete used the paper tags on the wiring or the metal tags with no., on them..... wire seventeen.. where does it go... go find the main panel under the hood on a conventional but for cabovers you know way more than me as I just avoided them as much as possible. I owned a Pete like that one for a while and my brother Larry loved that truck so when he come by for a brewski... I handed him the title and he said that he would name his next kid after me... I got him back by saying that one of his was actually mine and that was enough and that almost turned into a black eye before I told him I was joking. Okay on most of that wiring, Its going to be broken wires and I hope that you solder that wiring and use heat shrink on them as that is just as good a wiring as a new loom if you count in the costs of doing that and they are generic so one fits all. The heavy round wire that came down and was cut off looks like the mirror heat wires... on them I used to track them down and add three more in with it so you could do the remote turning as well. I know, just reach out and adjust it right.. from the drivers side and its the passenger mirror so if you can reach it then ok then. But your knuckles drag the ground standing up. I have never had too many gauges or lights yet. Except down in Arizona, a cop arrested me and gave me a park it and fix it ticket and that ticket was over a thousand dollars. I had a whole string out on one side as the snow broke my wiring an turned off sixty some lights (those decorative ones) and I seriously considered running only the ones necessary for legal. I also got jacked because of the lights shining through the wheels as they turn. What a dick head... I was twenty seven.... just married and had one of the prettiest long nose KW's (1693) oh that kitty would run with all of them. I was in a truck stop listening to another trucker talk doo do and I asked him would he care to run... I told him he could leave his trailer parked and I will go loaded and we go to the top of some hill near there. He laughed at me and for a minute I thought maybe I bit off more than I could chew. He then pointed out the window at his rig and I just smiled as he said "I'll let you off on this one" so I told him that I really needed to be taught a lesson an lets just do it for a cheap bet. He smiles back and said okay and is a hundred okay?? I said well let me look.... ya I can cover that and still get fuel but lets go all out for five hundred. He was in the bite of the line now as others were listening. I said pick someone to ride with you that ain't afraid to go. About that time a cute waitress said to me.. I live that direction and need a ride home tonight so let me off when you guys turn around..... boy howdy was she a looker. I told her yes but I am married so its only a ride. She smiled an said I see your rock on your finger so I figure I am safer with you than the guys trying to get in my underwear. So off we go... he was ahead about a truck length for a while but I was toying with him and when I seen the smoke roll out his stacks, I told her to hang on and I started grabbing full gears! I passed him like he was on jack stands. His face was white and angry but also confused. I came back with her still in the truck and she was picking up her other gear to go home with and she said real loud, How come you never put it in the higher gears... we could of went a lot faster. That guy never had the full five hundred but I told him close enough and handed the money to that waitress. He asked me just how much power do you have? I told him.... More than those number twenty u-joints will take. More than once when I was getting the hang of that much power, I ripped the teeth off of the rear ends and I ran the forty eights

Every time you moved the door I kept waiting to the the voice of Vincent Price. 😳 I always hated a rattling dash…sounds like a bucket of bolts going down the road. Making progress! Hey MIke, I paused this because I remembered that you love looking at trucks and I mean all trucks. A fellow named Matt, who has a channel named Diesel Creek is building back a 57 Autocar.... all the sudden drawing a big mental break in my brain as I dearly love his channel. Hard little worker and has his hands on some equipment that he rescue's and does a fine job of making them run again.. He still has a ways to go but he is youngish.... thirties.. young to me as I am 73. He is looking for a donor cab as he doesn't realize how good his really is considering that trucks age. He got the truck he has with intentions of fixing to use (many reasons) and found the transmission is bad so is going to rebuild it... I am sure that he is capable as well. You and twin sticks get around the country and see a lot of stuff and I would appreciate if you got in touch with him... Mention my name for my ego maybe. I'm going to watch this video and see what you are up against.... with these words from the repair manual...: Grounds grounds grounds... the first three words of those manuals is about how important they are... okay pass the popcorn.. video time

    Ole kenny has alot of potential. It will be a nice truck. It just needs a few feet more wheelbase because if you dont the suspension/wheelbase combo is gonna beat you to death going down bumpy roads but im sure you already know that from driving it out in the country. • @hackfabrication139
    @hackfabrication139 3 года назад

    I'm willing to bet that most of the door sill corrosion is due to snow/salt covered boots. Hard not to drag a lot of crap into the cab during the winter. And if was a company truck with unassigned driver, it probably didn't get cleaned/flushed out much. The misaligned driver's door is probably because an over weight (?) driver was putting a lot of stress on it getting in/out of the cab. When I owned my 72 Pete 352, I weighed 265, so I know what it takes to get in/out of a COE. Keep at it!

    With any aged electrical system, always start with the ground side. So many issues go away with renewed proper grounding. Crimped and soldered lugs on good #4 welding cable for all secondary grounds. Ditto on the big primary grounds, just with bigger 6 volt rated starter cable. Will make all future electrical work go so much smoother :-)
    You are doing the things that the owner or drive could never take the time to do. Had to run down the road, not tinker with loose stuff. It all added up to putting Kenny to sleep, rather than spend a week or two chasing all the gremlins ...

    Going to rip out the carpet and work on the dash, end up working on the door... sounds familiar, I call it "project drift".
    Definitely get the mechanical issues worked out before interior and body work!
    I think clearance lights on the "second story" of an Aerodyne look boss. If you are thinking about them as a future addition, run the wiring before you install the interior.

    As trucks get older they suffer from more and more "that'll do" repairs because they're being parked against the wall soon. The aim is to keep it on the road earning money no matter how it looks. You have chosen to reverse that process on Kenny and I laud you for it, but you'll need plenty of patience, funds, and determination. Hope you're ok in these wildfires.

    LOL it’s a KW I have driven lots over the years the doors never open and close properly even when new it is one of the things I hate with KW. Little lube on the hinge. It doesn’t say much about your work that you have that much concern about one of them working on it ,if your are a mechanic it doesn’t matter new truck or old. Or it’s just me thinking.

    I'm sure you can do the injectors man. But beware it could be opening a jar of worms. Set the valves, maybe check push rods out. Who knows what's hiding under the valve covers
