Arlo Guthrie on songwriting

In the fall of 1999 I was super lucky to attend a weekend workshop taught by Arlo Guthrie at Jorma Kaukonen's newly opened Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp. The workshop was supposed to be on songwriting, but Arlo mostly just taught us the chord progressions to a number of his songs. Somewhere on the second day, someone finally asked Arlo to talk about songwriting and he didn't do it at the time. But during the talent share at the end of the weekend, he had this to say about the subject.
