      My guess is that the two men singing that note took breaks at different times in such a way as to give the continuity to the note. I am a baritone and I tried it and I highly doubt it is practical that anyone held that note that long

      Unfortunately, the creater(s) of Voctave decided to feature the Sopranos because, the audience seems to relate more to the melody. But if you interviewed the members of the ensemble, they would swear that they are a 'team' and no one gets favorable solos...but get parts assigned based on their given skill set. I hope this makes sense.

    To this day, I am not satisfied that Sarah is Alto. She has such a clean and crystal clear voice, light and with almost no weight in the bass. Her singing the Mermaid song doesn't sound like Alto. Is she really a Alto?

    • @charliecampbell6851
      @charliecampbell6851 3 года назад +3

      She lightened her voice when singing that solo to fit the part better. Perhaps it's also because she discovered that she sounds a LOT like Jodi Benson when she does that. Sarah's an alto - listen to ' the man with the bag' to get an idea of what she normally sounds like. Believe it or not, Chrystal actually has a higher voice - she's a soprano! Jamey just writes individual parts for each singer, and Chrystal happens to have a fantastic tone in her low end.

    Am I crazy for hearing an Ab1 at 10:21?
    F2 -> Eb2 -> C#2 -> Ab1 -> Bb1

    • @okebaram
      @okebaram 7 лет назад

      At 10:18, I believe it is F2 -> Eb2 -> C#2 -> Ab2 -> Bb2... meaning it goes up. But check out that great C2 that follows at 10:24.
      I also had some different measurements with a few other places, and if I am right there could be more omissions anywhere else. Nevertheless, this video is genius from start to finish...
      The designated "Bb1" after 3:32, I hear no Bb1, instead, I hear F2 (not C#2) then Bb2 (not 1) > F2-F2 > Eb3 > C#3 > C3 > Bb2 (the F2 is the only place I hear the bass split away to lower notes from the baritone -> on "da-da" in "pa-DA-DA...").
      For the very next clip with multiple labels of "Bb1", I hear no Bb1 at all. Instead, I hear the basses singing no other note but G2 for every syllable.
      Also, for the very next clip that is labelled A1, I hear A2 not A1. After EJ sings "good will to everyone" I hear the bass sing E2 -> A2 -> C#2, going up to merge with the baritone after the E2, not down.
      Another one... At 2:16, the basses do drop down to C#2 as correctly shown but then the repeated "dum's" they make next in the same clip are F#2s not C#2s as they were labelled.
      BTW starting at 2:32, there are C2s that were missed: the bass to the screen-right starts singing "yona yona"??? (I don't know what is being said) but an octaves lower so he goes back and forth from C#2 to C2, the steady C#2 from earlier in the segment at 2:26 had already been faded out before that point.

    The stuff from A1-C2 here is a good example of mixed chest/fry. Still legitimate singing but the vocal structure is starting to slacken a bit too much, and you can hear the resulting extra "buzz" on top of the note.

    • @charliecampbell6851
      @charliecampbell6851 3 года назад

      That’s likely from JC, the older white guy. He has tremendous power in his low range but I’d call him more of a low baritone than a bass - he bottoms out right around C. Karl Hudson, the African American man, has a lower voice and can hit those notes, although I’d imagine A is probably about his basement.

    • @GamingDrummer89
      @GamingDrummer89 3 года назад

      @@charliecampbell6851 If you can get a low C with decent power you're probably a bass-baritone or bass. Not necessarily a profundo, though. Karl Hudson, based on what you said, sounds at least like he's a low bass if not a profundo.

    • @heliotropeskies5918
      @heliotropeskies5918 3 года назад

      jc is a low-placed baritone and his lowest chest note is typically somewhere around D2-C2, whereas karl is actually a true bass and bottoms out at like Bb1-A1. i wish he would sing lead more often to let him show off his low chest notes bc he, as a true bass, is very valuable as most acapella groups struggle to find true basses due to them making up like 1/40th of the population

    • @GamingDrummer89
      @GamingDrummer89 3 года назад

      @@heliotropeskies5918 Good info, though I think you're probably being WAY too generous with that 1/40th statistic. It's probably more like half that for the population of people who sing and far lower for the population in general. To be fair, however, I do think Vladimir Miller's comment about "one million people, one basso profundo" might be too far in the other direction.

    • @heliotropeskies5918
      @heliotropeskies5918 3 года назад

      @@GamingDrummer89 its just an approximation as choir is split into tenor parts and bass parts and the extremity of the range therein is determined by whether or not it's part 1 or 2. approximately 1 in 20 people who sing bass in a choir are true basses so depending on whether that statistic is founded upon whether thats bass 1 and 2 or juts bass 2. that would make it somewhere between about 1/40th of the male population are basses to like 1/150th of the population are basses and 1 in probably like 15 of those basses is a profundo if i had to guess
