A little late. The thing about Kate is she never looks like she struggles at all even holding those high notes at a minimum volume. Her notes are always clean and always just the right weight. She is a vocal marvel.Half the time she hits her high notes so softly that you only hear them as a kind of vibration or a ghost note that you hear but you're not sure that it was real.I intend on enjoying her contributions until they scatter dirt over me.
I'm a 56 year old retired policeman, and have to say, this brought me to tears. The harmony, the individual voices weaving back and forth over a common chord, christ, gets me every time. Bravo Voctave, Bravo indeed.
Retired 55 year old policeman here also as well as a singer. I had the exact same reaction, and I have listened to this piece at least seventy thousand times with the same response every time.
I'm obsessed with watching people watch this piece from Voctave. I love it so much. I've never heard anyone say that those little arpeggios right before Ariel sound a little like bubbles coming to the surface of the water. Does anyone else get that feeling?
Agreed. In a lot of voctave's songs, Kate has softer high notes that blend in and fit perfectly, often getting unnoticed but adding perfectly to the chord. In this song there is a point during Part of this world, where Kate comes in high in the background, but people don't notice until she swells in volume for the climax, but she was actually holding the note at a lower volume to blend into the background chord.(13:45) I was actually surprised in Elizabeth's first Voctave reaction that she missed the F# that Kate did during the climax of the Disney Love Medley.
Voctave, the group that reduces everyone to giggling and shaking their heads in disbelief. Because what can you say to perfection so ludicrous that it crosses the territory into superhuman? Btw, I live for your facial expressions in these reviews. Every single face you make perfectly encapsulates how this group makes me feel. Disbelief, wonder, and ecstasy.
You Will Be Found, Mary Did You Know featuring the man who wrote the song, Mark Lowry, also Oh Come All Ye Faithful featuring EJ. Dont wait for Christmas!! The vocals will blow you away anytime.
Just wanted to add my voice to the .. um .. chorus for Mary Did You Know. It's not only the astonishing Kate but Mark more than holds his own in that company. The whole thing just leaves you open mouthed, staring at the end panel wanting it never to end.
Agreed. She will really appreciate Kate's work in Mary Did You Know, as well as Mark Lowry. She hasn't "discovered" EJ yet. If she doesn't want to do Christmas songs in summer, then I recommend This Is My Wish for a great intro to EJ's voice.
I think Tiffany has enormous agility and honeyed texture just below her head voice, she can play around, and even probably go a bit deeper. Her voice is so motherly and genuinely charismatic, such a joy to listen to.
I love how you articulate these songs, both in arrangement and elements. Its very technical infact but in a manner where a lay person like me still understands it. The manner of discussion is very enjoyable, and its like having my highschool choir master discussing the songs to us so that we deliver each piece with an intimate understanding. Good job! 👏🏻😁👏🏻😁👏🏻😁
Hi Elizabeth, it's been almost a year but I'm really glad that you're reacting to another Voctave song, it's been far too long. I loved this performance and the singers in the ensemble were amazing, especially Kate Lott and All the Princesses! Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
Every time I see the voices of Liberty, I always end up crying. I always feel so bad because I've met Kate multiple times, and each time I say hi I have tears in my eyes.
Kate sounds so much like a Disney Princess! Only so much better! 😇💝 She really is out of this world! All Voctave singers have such beautiful voices! I'd never get tired of listening to them! 🥰😘✨😍🔥🎶
The man standing next to Jamey Ray is Tony DeRosa, a 4 time International Champion in the Barbershop Harmony Society. He also is one of the musical directors and maybe in charge of all of the music at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
Tony is fantastic. Wish she'd do some BHS stuff. I'd like to see her reaction to the Ringmasters' Notre Dame Medley performance from the 2016 AIC show.
Not only is Tony DeRosa a Barbershop Singer, but Jamey Ray sells arrangements for Barbershop songs, and one or two of the women are also Barbershop singers. To be good at that (and they are all good) you have to have a great ear for harmony and blending in chords. The good groups are very adept at changing the key in which they are singing at the drop of a hat. The Vocal Majority (from Dallas, Texas) did "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" a few years ago and was named International Champions at this performance: ruclips.net/video/ROSwsJ0k8xY/видео.html
And bass Karl Hudson was a collegiate champion and multiple International medalist with Men in Black quartet in the Barbershop Harmony Society. I'd love to see you have tea time with Tony and analyze barbershop quartets, especially GQ.
Elizabeth, you’re one of my favorite reactors. Not only because of your knowledge but because of your giddiness and neediness when it comes to the instrument that is our voice. Your joy and the fun you’re having are contagious! Also for a solo by Tiffany I would like to turn your attention to Voctave - The Impossible Dream; originally from the movie Don Quijote.
THANK YOU for acknowledging the brilliance of Jamey Ray!! Voctave is totally incredible and Ray's arrangements showcase all that talent perfectly (and he has a really great tenor voice, as well).
This is especially magical listening to them preform this live. A few years ago I took a long weekend trip to S.C. just to hear them in concert. It was divine!
I would say their Great Movie Medley would totally be one to check out, even if it is just for your own enjoyment. It is an awesome display of vocal endurance and talk about using "Do" verses "Loo" & "Ah" verses "Oh"...and maybe some that we've never heard of. LOL! Great video as always Elizabeth!!
I LOVE your excitement and passion. I also love you describing the incredible singing abilities. It is allowing me a deeper appreciation of these performances.
What an absolutely delightful reaction! And I always learn something from you "nerding out" (what I know about vocal technique would fill an atom with lots of room left over). This was tremendously enjoyable, so thanks for sharing not only your knowledge, but also your joy and for being such a "little girl" and bringing out the little girl in all of us.
I definitely add my vote for the Ringmasters' Notre Dame Medley. And also in reference to Barbershop, several of Voctave's members are barbershoppers. Tony DeRosa is a 2 time BHS quartet gold medalist and directs a medal-winning Sweet Adelines chorus. Ashley Espinosa is a member of gold medalist Sweet Adeline quartet Windsor. As for more Voctave, definitely Mary Did you Know? and O Come All Ye Faithful, but to me their best recent work is their Prince of Egypt medley. They have not done and "in person" video for that one yet, but the audio track is on RUclips.
Thank You Elizabeth for this reaction and analysis. While I enjoy Voctave and heard other reactions to this same piece, your reaction is like a love letter to each of the ladies, Voctave as a whole and Jamey Ray in particular. You certainly helped me to know just a little more why I have been enjoying this group. Listening now with a fresh understanding brought me to tears due to the depth and beauty of this music. Thank you again.
I absolutely love how much joy you show in these reaction videos its incredible infectious to watch, how you break down and explain the mechanics of the vocals so that even lay people like myself can not only enjoy the ear candy but understand the brilliance of the vocalists is wonderful to listen to in its own right. Could you do a reaction to Voctave's "Mary did you know" i know you have covered Pentatonix version but voctave's is one of my favourite musical arrangements and the high notes absolutely blow me away.
You have a beautiful smile, and I couldn't help but notice you smiled the ENTIRE time you listened to this. It's like ear-pleasing ASMR to listen to them sing this medley. *thumbs up*
Chrystal has one of those tricky voices, she sings altos, but if you listen to more of her solos in the future, you’ll see she can belt real high, her range is crazy 🔥 Plz react to their cover of Moon River or the Impossible Dream ft more of Tiffany showing off her soprano voice:)
Yeah Chrystal is a soprano with a well developed chest voice, Jamey mentioned it on instagram, called her a "closet soprano"😂, she could be a spinto soprano
@@gegiocavacci2589 It’s not uncommon at all for lower voiced women to have massive ranges. There’s one opera singer who was first know for singing Contralto, and occasionally Mezzo roles but she has a vocal range of well over four octaves. She can sing all the way down into the baritone range and all the way up passed a High C. 😮 That’s why most experts prefer to define voice types by the timbre of the sound and not the range because range can be flexible.
@@samuel5916 Yes, range is definitely a skill (Operatic Lyric sopranos singing in the 2nd octave are not uncommon for ex), but how you sound in specific parts, the ease of phrasing and clear syllabic singing (recitativo) in high or low tessitura is mostly voice type related. Chrystal speaking voice and belting suggest me spinto former lyric.
@@gegiocavacci2589 I found her! Polish Contralto Ewa Podles with a recorded concert range from A2 to E5! ruclips.net/video/pjipU6RcrqQ/видео.html Personally I don’t take speaking voice into account because that’s very much a learned behavior that’s influenced by those around you and can change throughout your life. My first voice teacher had an extremely low speaking voice for a woman and most people assumed she was an Alto. They were always shocked to learn that she was in-fact a 1st Lyric Soprano. To my ear she always had such a beautiful and rich tone throughout her range. God I miss her. 😢
People are always like "I want to hear more of Kate", but then never go listen to the Christmas song they have where she has a solo: O Come O Come Emmanuel, haha. Highly recommend! Ashley also has a solo! Love your reactions, cheers!
You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hanson has been performed as a virtual choir by a few groups. Voctave invited 1000+ of their Patreon family to join them in a rendition that was stunning. Even more so because they all contributed their parts from Covid lockdowns at home and Jamie coached the virtual choir to match up. They wend in and out and back and forth in duets, trios, section for the guys and for the ladies ending up in a massive 11 person wall of sound before dissolving back into the virtual choir. It's quite eye-watering.
Thank you SO much for this absolutely wonderful reaction vid featuring Voctive!! It was breathtakingly wonderful for so many reasons!! first off, i always love how u educate your audience when it comes to music! as usual, i'm always astonished by the things u know (and teach us) about singing and music!! Secondly..i loved the pure unadulterated joy you were experiencing as u were listening to and watching this Medley!! It not only warmed my heart.. not only because i 100% agreed with u but...because your joy so reminds me of the joy and full hearted appreciation my mother always had for music (God rest her soul)...my mom always said that listening to something this beautiful was like seeing an old and very beloved friend again after a long time!! Thank you so much young lady! Keep these tremendous reaction vids coming! Take care and God Bless!
I got the chance to listen to the Voices of Liberty and got to meet Kate Lott in July 2021. She was unbelievablly nice and totally gracious to this geeky grandma. What a treat to know the person behind that Voice is as lovely as her singing. Thank you for this reaction. You do your research and I always learn something new!
Brilliant breakdown of a phenomenal arrangement. Your ability to hear all parts of the performance is mind blowing. I could watch you react to voctave all day. I agree with several of the previous comments "Disney Showstoppers" highlights the men in the group, Voctave's version of "O come all ye Faithful" is my new favorite Christmas carol, "This is my wish" and "How far I'll go" are all worth your time. Keep up the good work. Your enthusiasm for acapella music is infectious.

Elizabeth, Please react to more Voctave. You have barely scratched the surface of their talent and beautiful music. A lot of reactors seem to lose interest after a few videos, but you owe it to yourself to dig in and enjoy their music, even if you don't get as many views on Voctave reaction videos as you do on other things. They are all world class singers, but in such a large group, they don't get a chance to shine as individuals in every video. You have not heard any of the men do any solos yet, and they are fantastic. (EJ will blow your mind) By the way, 2 of the men (Tony and JC) had to leave Voctave about a year ago, and 2 other men have come from Voices of Liberty to fill those positions. You should look up more about Tony Derosa, because he is the music director for Voices of Liberty, Dapper Dans, and several other Disney groups, as well as being a gold medalist in the international Barbershop scene. (He solo's in Voctave's A Million Dreams video) I made other video suggestions, but I think they got buried in the comments.
Hi Elizabeth, You and Peter Barber are my "go to" reviewers of all sorts of artists and thanks for introducing me to Vocatave. I have so far "found" Gigi de Lana, Morrisette Amon, Cakra khan, Soyangh and Angelina Jordan just by watching your channels. You have re ignited my love of music, which has been missing for many years. THANK YOU.
This video killed my headphone batteries. Worth every second to hear you gush over this group and their incredible female section. I fell in love with Kate Lott after hearing her in "Mary did you know?" featuring Mark Lowry.
I've been a choir geek and self-described accappellaholic since 8th Grade (circa 1988), and literally every Voctave video I've ever watched made me cry. Kate's moments like 5:17, 18:29, 20:06, and 13:45 - 13:57 are among the more obvious reasons. WOW!!! Moreover, every singer in this group is _amazing,_ and every soloist was the _perfect_ choice for the song they sang!!! I never imagined that even an _analysis video_ of Voctave would put tears in my eyes, but sure enough, I'm over the falls...and several times! Kudos to those _meaty_ male voices, too!!!!! Also, is there any more perfect way to end an a cappella arrangement than with an add9? In this case, that Bb tucked into the final Ab major chord has a beautiful, comforting quality. ♥ P.S. Have you checked out Duwende's cover of _Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough_ by Michael Jackson? Definitely worth a watch!
To answer your question Crystal Johnson is still singing with Voctave. I saw them in concert last Christmas season and she's even more spectacular in person! Glorious voices, all of them!
Hi Elizabeth - the voice types are: Kate - Coloratura Tiffany - used to be a high soprano, but her voice has aged into more of a mezzo Ashley - mezzo Sarah - alto (she's modifying her color here) Chrystal - soprano with a nice color in the low end, she goes up to high A flat in 'i know where I've been'
Just discovered your videos yesterday and have already binged a great deal of them :) You are just wonderful. This last year, music and singing have been my escape, and being able to learn and appreciate the techniques of the artists you review is just making my life right now. Plus, my friends are all tired of my geeking out to all things accapella and disney, and all the little moments that make these arrangements just over the top. So, you are now my new best friend😁😁 and I will geek out with you and love every moment of it.
Elizabeth, I love your reactions so much! Like you, I am enamored of Chrystal Johnson's voice, but I haven't found any videos of her singing solo. I know she was with Gaithers for awhile, but I haven't found any videos of her with them either. I am desperate to hear her sing a full song solo. Also, Voctave's version of "Mary Did You Know" is one of the top videos on RUclips - period! It is A M A Z I N G!
I enjoy several of the reaction videos from vocal coaches, but there are only a few of those coaches that truly understand and appreciate the subtle and sometimes almost imperceptible nuances that can add so much to a song. Your passion for and reaction to those nuances is so enjoyable for me, especially when you get giddy. Please keep "geeking out". This is the second reaction video of yours that I have listened to, and you definitely earned my subscription. I really appreciate that your reactions are about the groups. You truly are excited about the successes of the performers; it's about the performers. Unfortunately, I've had to unsubscribe to some of the earlier vocal coaches due to them making the reactions more about them than the performers. It's almost like they are trying to compete with the performance. I'm really looking forward to more of your reactions. With that said, I just love the unselfishness of these singers. Kate exemplifies that unselfishness. When she hits those beautiful high notes, it would be easy to belt them out and be the center of attention. Instead, she uses amazing control and hits those high notes at a level that still blends as part of the group. I especially loved when she hits the high note at 19:44, but the step downs at 19.50 are just stunning. Sheer perfection! On that last note, the blend of the women's voices is gorgeous, but I was also really impressed when the bass and baritone parts entered the mix. It's barely perceptible, but the control that they have just adds to the richness of that last note. So unbelievably beautiful! Keep up the good work Voctave and Elizabeth!!!
Hi Elizabeth, You are definitely one of my favorite reactors. If you haven't reacted to Voctave's "Oh Holy Night", Tiffany will absolutely knock your socks off. Jim
My goodness! I love love love your facial expressions😅...it's funny how we react to the same points through out the music. I went to goosebumps city right from 13:30 😩🎶🎶🎶
I had been waiting for this reaction for sure. I feel like most people mostly focus only on the soloists, and there's so much to discuss about the choral arranging that I knew you would dig into.
If you go to Epcot, you MUST go hear Voices of Liberty at American Adventure. They are worth the price of admission (and, at least pre-Covid, you usually see at least one Voctave member in the group)
Hi zipadeed00dah, Elizabeth and Kirk returned from their New Orleans/Orlando trip at the end of May and during her interview w/ VoicePlay's Geoff Castellucci, he recommended the Voices of Liberty.

And “This is my wish.” Both amazing!
100%, O Come All Ye Faithful is PHENOMENAL
By far my favorite song by them. I second this!!!
Kate does blow your mind, but think of her control to throw out those high notes in the background without overpowering the lead. That IS is control
Agreed. In a lot of voctave's songs, Kate has softer high notes that blend in and fit perfectly, often getting unnoticed but adding perfectly to the chord. In this song there is a point during Part of this world, where Kate comes in high in the background, but people don't notice until she swells in volume for the climax, but she was actually holding the note at a lower volume to blend into the background chord.(13:45)
I was actually surprised in Elizabeth's first Voctave reaction that she missed the F# that Kate did during the climax of the Disney Love Medley.
Its hard enough to go that high and loud, but its leagues harder to go that high softly.

@@gegiocavacci2589 I found her! Polish Contralto Ewa Podles with a recorded concert range from A2 to E5!

Personally I don’t take speaking voice into account because that’s very much a learned behavior that’s influenced by those around you and can change throughout your life. My first voice teacher had an extremely low speaking voice for a woman and most people assumed she was an Alto. They were always shocked to learn that she was in-fact a 1st Lyric Soprano. To my ear she always had such a beautiful and rich tone throughout her range. God I miss her. 😢
I love this and you. So many good voctave things to watch but their prince of Egypt medley is crazy
Tremendous arrangement with an impressive collection of talent to bring it to life!
OHMYGOODNESS!! I can't wait for this reaction!! What a great week...Teddy Swims AND Voctave. Yeah...this will be epic!!
People are always like "I want to hear more of Kate", but then never go listen to the Christmas song they have where she has a solo: O Come O Come Emmanuel, haha. Highly recommend! Ashley also has a solo! Love your reactions, cheers!
Appreciate Elizabeth's inner smile as well as the vocalists
I have never heard such a group of very talented singers! Voctave are just amazing!!! This is Disney Pur Sang!!
The Fly Medley is one of my all time FAVORITES. Also, Being Alive featuring David Phelps. Killer arrangement and amazing vocal prowess.
I enjoy watching your videos because you geek out. To me it means you are truly listening to the chosen song. Thank you for deciding to be on RUclips.
Stunning! Brilliant! Mind-blowing! Perfection! Thank you so much for this! 💙💙💙
How have I NOT ever come across your channel? LOVE this reaction and Analysis. Brilliant! 💖💖💖💖💖
It's quite eye-watering.
so glad you reacted to this. love your reactions, explanations and expressions!
Your analysis and reactions are amazing, moreover thanks to your videos i constantly discover great music..... Thank you :)
My favorite part of the day. Thanks Liz.

Just stumbled onto your channel, love what I've heard so far. Looked over your videos... how have you never reacted/reviewed to David Phelps? You MUST look into him ASAP.
Might I suggest, well anything he has done, but especially his album/collection "Classic"... check this one out: ruclips.net/video/YI8Ya9Qn3C4/видео.html
Or this is one of his latest that is blowing people's minds, a cover of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing": ruclips.net/video/h5b39F-9458/видео.html
Last suggestion, this duet with his daughter, "Water": ruclips.net/video/cPcg-SBsOnY/видео.html
(EJ will blow your mind)
By the way, 2 of the men (Tony and JC) had to leave Voctave about a year ago, and 2 other men have come from Voices of Liberty to fill those positions. You should look up more about Tony Derosa, because he is the music director for Voices of Liberty, Dapper Dans, and several other Disney groups, as well as being a gold medalist in the international Barbershop scene. (He solo's in Voctave's A Million Dreams video)
I made other video suggestions, but I think they got buried in the comments.
I think you should do some classics, like Jimmy Durante, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Rosemary Clooney, Peter Paul & Mary, etc.
I'm getting literal goosebumps listening to this.
P.S. Have you checked out Duwende's cover of _Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough_ by Michael Jackson? Definitely worth a watch!
“Show Yourself” by Voctave! One of the best acapella arrangements ever.
To answer your question Crystal Johnson is still singing with Voctave. I saw them in concert last Christmas season and she's even more spectacular in person! Glorious voices, all of them!
Hi Elizabeth - the voice types are:
Kate - Coloratura
Tiffany - used to be a high soprano, but her voice has aged into more of a mezzo
Ashley - mezzo
Sarah - alto (she's modifying her color here)
Chrystal - soprano with a nice color in the low end, she goes up to high A flat in 'i know where I've been'
Oh my gosh, they all sound so wonderful.
Wait! Chrystal is a soprano? Huh!
Correction: Chrystal could even go upto a high c!!
Voctave blows me away everytime! Kate's voice is stunning and so are the others
Love the way you dissected this song. Thank you!
22:35 Ashley's voice cuts through really well, even when she sings unplugged with Voices of Liberty.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was shook and melted when crystal came in. 😍🥺😍🥺
O come all ye faithful! They absolutely crush it.
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you knowing and mentioning all their names
ow man, I have chills, This is so beautiful
Hi Elizabeth,
You are definitely one of my favorite reactors. If you haven't reacted to Voctave's "Oh Holy Night", Tiffany will absolutely knock your socks off.
Jim
Another great Voctave mashup is Carol of the Bells of Notre Dame. Beautiful soaring highs and the contrast in the bass lines!
My goodness! I love love love your facial expressions😅...it's funny how we react to the same points through out the music. I went to goosebumps city right from 13:30 😩🎶🎶🎶
Best damn reaction and analysis video reviewer that I've seen. You, young lady, are informative, very knowledgeable, and just a treat to watch!
Definitely the great Movie Medley from Voctave 😍😍
Hi Elizabeth, Ive been waiting for this. if you can interview one of em (or lots of em) I would die right away (in a good way of course).
XD
Great minds think alike- I just suggested this also!👍
Kurt or Tiffany are both likely very open to those sorts of things
Please don't stop doing these, voices of liberty and vocatve are life. Please keep giving us life with some Disney!
I had been waiting for this reaction for sure. I feel like most people mostly focus only on the soloists, and there's so much to discuss about the choral arranging that I knew you would dig into.
Judy Khun, colours of the wind - is just the best. This girl is great but Judy is another level.
Watching you enjoy this again! x
You are just so pleasant to watch.
