I had all but decided to eschew all forms of lighting, signals and non-manual switching when I gave my search one last try and found your thoughtful and excellently presented review. Thank you, Thank you!! This Innova meter is just what the doctor ordered for a simpleton like me.
Would love to see a review of the mid-priced DMMs from AmazonCommercial ($30 - $80) range, in comparison to your other favorite mid-priced range meters you’ve already looked at.

Not for precision but what do you expect for nearly free? :-) I did particular laugh at 22:04 where you almost reminded me of a baby, splashing the food with a small spoon:-) I did like your curtains, it was a funny detail when going from the review to the end. I am debating with myself about when you say "thanks guys for watching" both in the start but mostly in the end. I think it sounds like an outro where you end your video. I have klien, U-E-I, green-lee, radio shack, commercial electric, sperry, a ryobi, craftsman, Ideal, and extech. I had a belmerit and a triplet, and sold them. I never had a wave-tek, fluke, simpson, micronta, g-b (gardener bender) or amprobe.
I'm still a multimeter novice and would like to know if the leads for the innova 3306 work with the 3320 (I know they work at least to some extent but do they limit the functionality of the 3320)? Both sets of leads say CAT2 600V. I ask because the tip of a lead for my 3320 is damaged and I was hoping I could just swap it out.
Yes it is nice to have nice feeling probes in your hand, although the leads that come with it are actually not bad - especially for a meter at this price. I'm sure that they are perfectly as safe. Nice to hear from you Robert!
@@KissAnalog They may be safe but I was referring to how easy Probe Master leads are to use. I see people in videos grinding those cheap leads around like they are trying to dig a hole. Lol! When all that Probe Master leads need is a simple light touch. There's just no comparison.
I have wondered about that. You know the reputation that fluke has made and their probes are the nickel plated ones too. I think that crazy continuity test that came from down under has caused some crazy belief that only probe master is good enough - then how did Fluke make such a name not using them? Don’t get mr wrong, I love probe masters too - but they are not necessary. No one takes continuity like they are trying to start a 🔥;)
@@KissAnalog I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about the leads with the cheap $20 meters and not a Fluke. But my Probe Master leads run circles around my Fluke leads also. Even my Brymen leads are better than the Fluke leads. I don't know what you mean about the "down under" comment. I am just going by my personal experience. But in fairness, the Fluke leads were about five years old at the time. My Brymen and Fluke leads are on my cheap meters, not counting my VOM's. My VOM's and good DMM's all have Probe Master leads on them.

Just a short question. I just watched a review of this unit and the fella said it was a trash unit because the display numbers are all over the place when it is first turned on. Is that normal because it is an auto range. Mine seems to work fine.
That's a great question! Some meters will do that as the input impedance is high and any little noise can make it hunt for something to measure. You can test by touching the leads to see if the reading stabilizes.

BTW, is there really any significance between the Glass fuse and any of the others that they use for these small, general purpose DMM's? I like the Innova and Acton(pretty sure they're the same company) specific test meters they make for some of my older vehicles and they are not very expensive , but definitely get the job done well.
John Mcdougald I agree, a lot of these meters are great. I need to check on the Acton meters - thanks for that tip. I think glass fuses are ok for the CAT rating that they are rated for. Especially if they are built in the housing that separates them from other circuitry if they blow open.
@@KissAnalog Actron, is the other name of the company. Fat finger syndrome missed a key. My biggest problem with meters seems that I keep blowing the 10A fuse on most of them by accident. I don't know why, but it seems to happen with these auto ranging units. I just bought a Klein MM400 and was showing my son how to use it, and popped the fusetesting a 120v outlet. I've got an older Sears branded unit that looks very much like one of my Dad's older Flukes, that I've never had any trouble with, no matter what I do with it. But, I really want a cheap, small DMM that I can keep handy when I'm working on my Bronco or just want to verify a wire when I'm changing out a wall outlet. I just don't want to have to bring out the bigger meter just for a quick check.
That exaggerated rapid fire banzai continuity test method was somehow popularized by Kangaroo Dave on EEVblog from Australia, I also wondered how that got to be the defacto "go to" method for determining good continuity response but its more theatrical than reality. I know its supposed to show speed but when he does it its so fast about 50% or more of meters cant even do it, but it doesnt mean the continuity is always unacceptable, your method here is more real world and reasonable.
Great review. Always fun with New meters. But who would measure 10A on a cheap meter like that, and Even without a FUSE ...? And that CE and UL marks, are you shure their genuine, or just something stuck on to make them legit ?
Geir Endre Jenssen All great questions Geir! I’m not sure about the current, but it is a good thinG that it is only CAT 1 essentially as it is DC current. The CE Mark is a self certification, so they could get away with it unless they are audited or they are a no name company that is ready to change names and try it again under a new name. The UL listing can be checked by anyone that is inclined to do so. I’ve been asking other reviewers if they have every caught some company or know of a company passing off fake agency marks, but so far I haven’t had anyone provide any of that information. I hear this second hand, but I’m interested in finding one mater that has a fake mark. What do you think?
Thank you! That’s a great question! I would not use it unless I knew the current was limited at the source. If it is limited to 10Amps, it is probably fine. Every test has to be considered safe before attempting - and this goes with fused meters as well. Current testing in particular can be dangerous and hopefully a user would not be holding any meter testing for high current. I like clamp on meters for this;)
Great question! If the car is on and power is at the fuses, then use the DC setting and touch the small exposed metal tips at the top of the plastic fuse holders. If you read zero voltage, then the fuse is good. If you read a voltage, then there is an open and the fuse needs replacing. You can verify this by making sure that there is voltage on the fuse by touching the metal tip on the fuse and using the other probe to touch an exposed metal part of the car. You should read voltage. Make sense?
Great question Ron! You are talking about the constant current that is being used to charge - is that right? If so, it depends on the current level. I actually have a better meter for that. Which I think is near the same cost. I’m going to post that this weekend.
I have never seen that function on a multimeter. The battery testers I've used are specifically designed to test automotive batteries. Firstly they use "Kelvin" type test leads which have two wires per clamp. One for tester power and the other for circuit measurement. Secondly the circuitry inside must load the battery and then calculate the internal resistance of the battery. That's well out of the realm of the multimeter. I'm sure it could be done, but wouldn't make sense for most people. Not in low cost meters either. If Harbor Freight doesn't make it then it's a good indication it isn't easily done on the cheap. I would conclude you'll need to buy a purpose built battery tester. Good luck!
I'm with you on the continuity testing - always makes me cringe when I see firelighting being done. I give up on the review then. I seem to be gravitating towards doing continuity by looking for (no/low) resistance and leaving the sound for when I can't do the test and view the meter. I think all these cheap meters are much of a muchness really - I'd just go for the cheapest and make sure it's used for hobbyist stuff. More than good enough for that and it gives you some money to spend on interesting components.
That makes me cringe too. I think some of these reviewers follow the Australian, and think if he does it it must be the right way. There are some good low cost meters. Fluke wants as much as what some sell oscilloscopes for:)

For 15 to 20 seconds along with that it measures upto 200Mohms of resistance and capacitors also with transistor testing sockets but I could not find the multimeters of such type now I hate chinese product it a bad country for the whole world you know that so I have to take interest in your video and I know that you are nice people we like you and appreciate your video and product it's all good and quality is better so please sir you make a video for us of multimeter which measures above mentioned datas I don't know why company like fluke , habotest,proster and many other which you suggest could not make such multimeter please reply thanks

Hey Bjorn, I do like what Aneng offers, but when looking at the Aneng V8, the lowest I found it on Amazon was about $48. I did find the Aneng V01A on Bangood at under $16. Now the one I was showing impressed me because it has a UL listing - I thought that was impressive for an inexpensive meter;) Thanks for sharing this - I'll have to get my hands on some of these meters. Also, customer protection legislation is usually really tough for the seller, with 2 years mandatory warranty and, when buying online, the buyer always has the option to return it during the first 14 days, no questions asked. 21% VAT too, but still, the Anengs 8008-9 go for about 25-28 bucks and I don't think they are much worse than this one.

Would you recommend this multimeter to make repairs to electronic components in fans, small speakers, pc motherboards, etc.

Never had a multimeter with an unfused 10A input. Does that make the multimeter the fuse? How dangerous is that to the user?

After playing with it, I find it can be used to wrap around the meter and test leads as well. Kind of cool, but I wonder how long it will last:)

I'm with you on the continuity testing - always makes me cringe when I see firelighting being done. I give up on the review then. I seem to be gravitating towards doing continuity by looking for (no/low) resistance and leaving the sound for when I can't do the test and view the meter. I think all these cheap meters are much of a muchness really - I'd just go for the cheapest and make sure it's used for hobbyist stuff. More than good enough for that and it gives you some money to spend on interesting components.
That makes me cringe too. I think some of these reviewers follow the Australian, and think if he does it it must be the right way. There are some good low cost meters. Fluke wants as much as what some sell oscilloscopes for:)

I’ll have to check, but meters that can read 20 Amps are more difficult to find.. some thought that that was too much energy for a hand held device.
@@KissAnalog sir in India some cheap quality multimeter that's digital multimeter d9205 which also I bought from Amazon in 500rupees to 700rupees which is China make can measure current of 20amps. For 15 to 20 seconds along with that it measures upto 200Mohms of resistance and capacitors also with transistor testing sockets but I could not find the multimeters of such type now I hate chinese product it a bad country for the whole world you know that so I have to take interest in your video and I know that you are nice people we like you and appreciate your video and product it's all good and quality is better so please sir you make a video for us of multimeter which measures above mentioned datas I don't know why company like fluke , habotest,proster and many other which you suggest could not make such multimeter please reply thanks

The LED results on all these meters are rather disappointing. I was thinking about the Amazon before I saw this. Now I’m reconsidering.

Heh, yeah I’ve heard great things about FLIR. I just don’t have the kind of money for one of them. Electronics are a hobby I’m still just getting into. I would just like to be able to measure the forward voltage of an LED within a reasonable margin of error.

Kiss Analog Yeah, it did seem like it. Just not suitable for me personally, as I needed a higher test voltage on the diode setting to read blue and white LEDs.
No offense I had that same meter and broke in less than 4 months and it was very inconsistent. Maybe I got a bad one.
That's not good - sorry. What broke on it? I don't use this a lot, but it seems to be pretty good. I did one on an Amazon meter that I think is much more solid though, and comes with 3rd party safety testing. amzn.to/3dabAWy

Hey Bjorn, I do like what Aneng offers, but when looking at the Aneng V8, the lowest I found it on Amazon was about $48. I did find the Aneng V01A on Bangood at under $16. Now the one I was showing impressed me because it has a UL listing - I thought that was impressive for an inexpensive meter;) Thanks for sharing this - I'll have to get my hands on some of these meters. Aneng actually reached out before this Virus hit - maybe they'll reach out again when this is over. Take care;)
@@KissAnalog i was looking at Ebay for prices. Orders from China will take a extra while longer as usually. I have a Aneng AN8009 for more then a year now, and i'm verry happy about this a very budget friendly DMM with al the necessary options a hobbyist can imagine. Take care and till later :-)

Sir , let us not to be hypocrites , you and me are both old electronics engineers and we spent most of our life doing R&D for electronic products or repairing them so we will not be able to make lies to market products now and even if we may do then it will be very exposed work to customers like in this video , i.e. we cannot make 1+1=10 like marketing and sales people so let us keep within our tech zone better.... Also, there is not such tight budget thing and it is also a lie, the truth is a " MISER " word is fully describing the situation you are referring to , i.e. sh...t is sh...t and gold is gold.... Just look at EEVBLOG channel for reviews and see how it is being reviewed for different product models , you and me cannot do the same presented language like " him ".....

You as an old American electronics engineer who lived along all the glory ages of electronics since 70's cannot have the same brain as those of new age millennium generation so please don't play the daddy role for them as they are so naughty not to listen for you or at least understand you so leave this kind of video topic , not mentioning the exposed marketing show you did...

@@KissAnalog Thank you for the great content. It is often a PITA to export stuff to europe. Also, customer protection legislation is usually really tough for the seller, with 2 years mandatory warranty and, when buying online, the buyer always has the option to return it during the first 14 days, no questions asked. 21% VAT too, but still, the Anengs 8008-9 go for about 25-28 bucks and I don't think they are much worse than this one.
