Good job at explaining what Vipassana is. I struggle with how to tell people what I experienced but I'll be sharing this video from now on. Thanks for doing this :)

This was the best breakdown of it! I’m going again for my 2nd time and weirdly…I feel even more nervous! Having more awareness is definitely a double-edged sword. Anyways I appreciate you and this awesome video you made to help me get in the right mindset again! Wishing you all the best!
Glad it helped and happy practicing with round 2! I was actually thinking the other day, what would happen to my life if I meditated for 10 hours a day for a week. Then I realized I did it before lol. Then I thought mb I could take a week off to sit at home. All that to say - have a great course!
Hi, Peter. I'm a long time Vipassana Meditator: 38 years of it, and 14 ten-day retreats. You gave an excellent description of the typical course. Well done. I'll see if I can find a contact address of you.
On my first day, thinking about sitting for ten hours long for a whole day and even worse 10 more days make me feel stress enough, I made decisions to just focus on breathing in every single minute as better as I could. I don't know what changes in me yet I don't feel the same and I want to keep doing each single day for 2 hrs as they recommend us to do.I just retreated today.I am glad that everything works well and dhammma Servers very helpful and kind.Everything there are just more than I expected from it.🇲🇲💪💗.
Interesting video. Ten days to mediate for me would be too much to start with. Glad you benefited from your retreat. Also I love Sriracha! All the best to you.
People say this, but you would be surprised what you can handle. You just have to be determined. Ten days out of your entire life is such a sliver of time. Worth it for a life-changing experience.

Sounds like your on a good path now! This retreat is called a boot camp of meditation it’s not always been beneficial for people. They are researching the negative effects that can happen at Brown University. Cheetah house. Many come back with difficulty. Sounds like your on a good path now! You might not need this retreat. I was sorta talked into my first retreat and looking back I don’t recommend it to people. Don’t discount your own hard work to get where you are now. That’s awesome!! Good luck!
Yeah it's definitely not for everybody, but it was one of the best things that I've done for myself though. Curious how come you didn't think it was worth it for you?
It all depends on the kind of stuff embedded in the subconscious/unconscious, one's understanding how Dhamma - the Law of Nature works & one's capacity & willingness to do the work required to eradicate the the mental junk. The ever increasing levels of peace & joy one enjoys as the purification process proceeds is incomparable & cannot be expressed in words!
I think it's worth mentioning that regardless of how difficult or painful the physical sitting position can be, you are never required to sit longer than 1 hour without being relieved for a short period of time..
Hey Peter, this is really awesome man! I have read about these retreats before and was always super curious about them so thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds very tough but very rewarding! 😀
Great video, I just did a similar thing and can relate to a lot of the things you said! I made a short 5 min video on my (trippy) experience too! Keep up the good work!
Simply love it! totally feeling the vibe! Great job Peter! I love the little effects you have done at 5:32. And how you do the demonstration while narrating the story. Also the switch between A-rolls to the Phone's dimension. Not to mention, the choice of the music is just superb! It sets the mood right. WIth regards to the content, just adore it! Am very inspire to actually attend one of these retreats. The conversation with/within yourself, is often the toughest but the most rewarding, especially when the honesty comes through. Great Job Peter!. Keep going!
Went on one in Australia. Got to day 5 hadn't slept for 3 nights. Was trying to dry out from weed with Valium but I didn't quite have it under control yet. Ran out of Valium's hence no sleep. Asked for help from the guys and they said the place wasn't for me and that I needed to get a psychiatrist assessment. Was hallucinating felt like I was tripping balls. Was very disappointed that they told me I needed to leave I was very prepared to stick it out, I just figured it was part of the growing and learning experience but they said it wasn't.
I imagine they don't want to risk anything medically serious when drugs are involved. I hope you find that sober path for yourself. It's very rewarding once you get there, best of luck
I am sorry that you went through that. It sounds like you want to grow, which is wonderful. It probably just was not the right time in your life to be there. I do think this was part of your growing and learning experience, just in a different way than what they are offering which is why they felt it was not part of the meditative growing and learning experience. This is just my guess, but it may be that they want you to be able to enter into the process free of drugs. You mentioned you were trying to dry out from weed and were using Valium; all of this can cloud your mind and be an impediment to really having a true experience versus a drug induced one. They probably wanted you to first work with professionals who can help you get clear of the drugs, and once you are free of those and feeling good on your own try again. I wish you all the best!
I don't know about the Australian one, but the Vipassana centre in Hong Kong clearly states they are not a rehab or a mental help centre and they will not be able to "cure" anyone with drug or mental issues.
I hope you’re doing well. Sadhana has a certain way it will work, but its goal is enlightenment, if any healing is to come it is a side effect but it really isn’t meant to be a thing meant for healing the mind or to get off of things. But don’t be discouraged, there’s still so much you can do even today if you’d like! 😊 Don’t immediately listen to me, this is just my opinion and not any sort of professional advice of any sort but try to focus on safely getting off any of that stuff. As for sadhana, you can chant Om 21-108 times daily, also avoid anything labeled “advanced meditation” or “kundalini” or anything working on the higher centers without proper guidance. Dispenza has some good guided meditations but don’t try them until consulting with a professional and they give you the ok. One day when you are ready perhaps you can try something like Vipassana again if you’d like. Fast and steady can work with anything, and it’s awesome that you were that motivated, but fast and steady has a propensity for intensity which can then and often be interpreted as discomfort which leads to inconsistency and thereby higher likelihood of failure and worse outcomes. Slow and steady is always better my friend. May God’s peace and mercy be with you wherever you go now and forever.
I never forget my first vipassana retreat. Best experience ever. I felt lighter and younger after. My allergies were gone untill these days. It was 12 yrs ago. A mystery actually, nobody believes me. I don't care. Im just happy I don't have to use drugs for allergies anylonger.😅
Yeah it’s very much possible..most of the skin allergies are directly related to our mental state..too much stress and emotional trauma can result in allergies and other skin conditions..
I would recommend shorter retreats to begin with. 10 days is a lot for a beginner. This would avoid or lessen the pain as your body and your mind gradually get used to it.
For goenka ji's vipassana, 10 days is the requirement for beginners. For subsequent courses there are 1 or 3 day courses available to strengthen practice.
10-days is adamant for a beginner with this technique. I've completed the 10day one in 2017, personally I'm very grounded and still, so the sitting was "easy" for me. The first days having a head full of ideas and no way to write them down was for me the true struggle. I did a 3-day short course later, and have to say it wasn't a good experience. 3days for me is too short, it's just enough time to get into the groove of it, and then it's over. But if you're someone who practices everyday, then the shorter one probably feels more complete. It's good to remember you don't need this specific technique to meditate, let go and turn inwards. This to me is the easiest for anyone who's not into the spiritual side of meditation as vipassana is focusing on teaching a specific technique, so it is more technical. Of course, just like with yoga, you can't separate meditation from spirituality, not really. You can sit without meditating, just like you can perform yoga movements without "turning inwards and connecting the micro with the macro", but you miss on the real benefits. But again, if one is just interested in meditating and becoming more mindful, there are many different techniques to try out that aren't as intense. Find what works for you.

What a great video! I can't even make it through 5 minutes of meditation so a 10 day silent meditation retreat sounds like the worst idea ever but you almost made it sound appealing 😅
Ya I too can't sit for 5 mins but after Vipassana meditation gradually we can sit for longer time you must attend vipassana meditation to see the change in yourself.
Yeah one of the first times I went to a Zen Center I sat and we closed our eyes at like 7:30pm. I didn't know what was going to happen. And then nothing did...til like 9pm. Once I realized we weren't going to have a break it got really hard. But after we finished I realized sitting for a while is super hard but doable

LOL, yeah I really liked the vegetarian food but no dinner was an adjustment. My first meal back was actually at Burger King...such a big shock. They had little mini casino stands at each table with all the flashing lights it was pretty hilarious. Ah nice, how was it? Does it feel different after doing it multiple times?
@@PeterSu Moved on from vipassana for now, it didn't feel quite right for me. Practicing self inquiry now and I'm so glad I've found this. So transformative for me, though vipassana meditation was a brilliant background for it and I don't regret any of it
@@PeterSu I do have material on self inquiry, but if vipassana feels right to you and you don't feel the need to look elsewhere then by any means continue..
Definitely! At my north fork center there were chairs if you have physical conditions so you probably could get a chair. Maybe email your center to confirm?
You know I just back for the third time, but this time I quited and escaped from that after 5 days because my anxiety. but after get out of this, althought 5 days but my anxiety disappeared… so I just want to say,..let brave to face with our problem ,..it can be solved but this time I could not win my self. and yeah when we have problem with mental health, that problem can be bigger in this retreat,..but of we dare to face with it, we can win, I will try for the four time. 2 last time I didn’t have any problem with my self that why I didn’t see it really helpful for my life. but this time I back with serious thinking and omg.. I fail.. but it really worth it to try one time in your life.
I didn't take any inside the retreat (no phones allowed xp), so I pulled these from Google and used ones that I felt were representative of my experience
This sounds hardcore and very taxing on the body! How could you do it if you already have a painful body, or chronic condition? I’m surprised it’s free, that’s good!
Yeah it can be very taxing on the body, definitely requires commitment. Good question - for health-related questions I suggest consulting with your doctor about attending something this.
Hi sure, it's the North Fork Vipassana Center at 58503 Rd 225, North Fork, CA 93643. This one is in California, they have a lot of centers around the world. You can go to www.dhamma.org/ to reserve a spot. Heads-up they are usually booked full like 3 to 6 months out, so try to reserve for a course 6 months out. Happy meditating!
Yes. Its will like deepen your areweness and focus. Just try do normal meditation in yoga class. Vipassana is just a Buddhist practice that resemble meditation technique.
Another misconception, Dhamma is not rooted in Buddhist philosophy, Buddhist philosophy is rooted in Dhamma. Buddha was not teaching Buddhism, he was teaching Dhamma, that's why it's called a "Dhamma center". Don't be confused about the chants, Goenka is chanting in Pali language. You can easily research the meaning behind the words and you will find that it is not rooted in Buddhism, only rooted in love and compassion for all beings, he constantly sharing us Metta vibrations, thats it. Pure love and wisdom! All the chants are a gift and has no roots in religion, just love and wisdom. - Be happy
I recently completed my first 10 day course. Couldn't practice silence as it was a shared room and the other women were chatting. 😩 But otherwise the course was good. The 10 hours of daily practice has calmed me down a lot. There were lots of youngsters in my group and all of them completed the course.. It's really very doable.
Ah man that's a bummer they didn't respect the silence for others. I'm glad to hear you finished the course and felt the impact! Ah nice that's good to hear
I would probably go crazy because I just came back from schizophrenia after forcing myself to be back to the matrix. I went too deep into my mind that I saw reality as fluid and there was no anchor like I was just in a dream and it feels like I died. Maybe it only works for ordinary people and not for people who are by nature self-reflective.
Good job at explaining what Vipassana is. I struggle with how to tell people what I experienced but I'll be sharing this video from now on. Thanks for doing this :)

Sounds like your on a good path now! This retreat is called a boot camp of meditation it’s not always been beneficial for people. They are researching the negative effects that can happen at Brown University. Cheetah house. Many come back with difficulty. Beware !
Hi, did you go? How was it?
@@ChehovsYe YES I did it ! It was one of the best experiences in my life. I had expected the difficulty so my mind was prepared for it.I learned so many things which I don't think so I would have ever learned anywhere else . I would 100% recommend
@@forcolor9494 they themselves have guided the people if dos and donts still some people don't follow and also some people can't control the mind and leave in between which is dangerous and that is why I think they might have negative effect but if you follow and do it you will learn alot and feel so great and if you don't understand there are always assistance who can help you
Pray for peace 🙏
Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you 🙏
Glad it helped!
You definitely lost weight after your 10 day ❤ I just finished my 3rd sit too
LOL, yeah I really liked the vegetarian food but no dinner was an adjustment. My first meal back was actually at Burger King...such a big shock. They had little mini casino stands at each table with all the flashing lights it was pretty hilarious. Ah nice, how was it? Does it feel different after doing it multiple times?
My first course retreat starts from tomorrow, too excited
Nice, enjoy!
All the conditions were tough but ok, but couldn't bear the loud shrieking prayer at 4 am !!!
Haha oh man sounds intense. How was your experience?
❤
Thanks for the video
Yeah, I usually meditate these days using the Anapana meditation they taught us. Glad it helped!
@@PeterSu Moved on from vipassana for now, it didn't feel quite right for me. Practicing self inquiry now and I'm so glad I've found this. So transformative for me, though vipassana meditation was a brilliant background for it and I don't regret any of it
@@PeterSu I do have material on self inquiry, but if vipassana feels right to you and you don't feel the need to look elsewhere then by any means continue..
thank you for this great video. Are there by any chance chairs to sit on for people with knee problems?
Definitely! At my north fork center there were chairs if you have physical conditions so you probably could get a chair. Maybe email your center to confirm?
do we do laundry? how many clothes we can take with us
No laundry. You can take as much as you'd like :)
Wow 3 times! It's so cool to hear how you've challenged yourself repeatedly. Hf on your 4th!
💓💓☝☝
I really want to go but I’m soo scared 😢
I like to meditate laying down :)
Haha nice. I love me some Savasana
How did you get these photos? 😳
I didn't take any inside the retreat (no phones allowed xp), so I pulled these from Google and used ones that I felt were representative of my experience
Do we have to sit in lotus position when we meditate? Or freestyle is ok?
Whatever helps you relax and sit for longer!
@@PeterSu thanks for the response.
Where did you do your Vipassana?
North Fork, in California - great center!

Glad you enjoyed it!
is it free course?
Yup, it's free and donation based if you'd like.
Hello. Can I hv the address of this retreat place. I would like to go🙏🏼🙏🏼thanks so much🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi sure, it's the North Fork Vipassana Center at 58503 Rd 225, North Fork, CA 93643. This one is in California, they have a lot of centers around the world. You can go to www.dhamma.org/ to reserve a spot. Heads-up they are usually booked full like 3 to 6 months out, so try to reserve for a course 6 months out. Happy meditating!
Does Vipassana insight meditation help you with your job at Goldman Sachs?
I didn't know about it then but I wish I did
But otherwise the course was good.
What centre did you attend?
North Fork in California, it was great
Could you use your phone?
1:58 no.
Gotta let go of that attachment man
I would probably go crazy because I just came back from schizophrenia after forcing myself to be back to the matrix.
I went too deep into my mind that I saw reality as fluid and there was no anchor like I was just in a dream and it feels like I died.
Maybe it only works for ordinary people and not for people who are by nature self-reflective.
Ur message is is scaring me because I'm very self reflecting , introvert and going for Vipassana day after tomorrow
can we take ibuprofen with us?
I'd ask the center about that I'm not sure
Plz give the address
I went to the North Fork center in California. Dhamma.org will show you all the sites around the world. Enjoy!
No eye contact ????
You are to go about this retreat as if you are alone.
So yea, no eye contact.
What about the HUNGER?? No dinner really??
Yeah no dinner, I just ate a big lunch. We also slept really early so it wasn't so bad
Did you loose weight? Your face seemed different
Are you allowed to cry?
Which center did you go to?
North Fork in CA, I really enjoyed it - simple and clean facilities, really nice norcal setting in the mountains.
