You are the first vegan video i ever watched lol...i was hesitant at first lol...my politics and worldview are different than most vegans ive heard so far....but i was impressed with your logic and fact based approach and the science in favor of a plant based diet. Annnnd lol....i was already 99% vegan in my diet but didnt realize it lol.
So keep the nutrition facts n logic coming! :)
I use 3 criteria in analyzing data
      Scripture
      Science(facts & evidence)
      Logic
And i have to say...thus far...the logical consistency...facts..are strongest on the plant based side.
      Keto
      Lectin free
      Carnivore
      Etc
seem to have a number of logical inconsistencies and fallacies in the arguments i have heard thus far.
If they say fruits are bad....im like...that contradicts all 3 of my criteria lol. Adam & Eve were vegans lol. Good grief!

I think the biggest problem with people who try a vegan diet and then 'fail' is because they accomplish it with one change: removing the meat from their existing diet. Thus it becomes a diet of subtraction, leaving them potentially open to a range of deficiencies. Especially if they started with the Standard American Diet.
Successful vegans seem to almost all take the opposite approach. They explore the cuisines of a variety of cultures and add _more_ variety to their diet. Diversity builds strength. And flavor!

    • @ispectechular
      @ispectechular 4 года назад +4

The first time I went vegan for 8 months and failed was I did an unhealthy vegan diet. I only removed meat and did add anything. This time around, I do new foods and mostly whole food and very low oil. I eat a much bigger variety of foods and they are much healthier options too.

This is so true. I've been gradually turning not just vegan but entirely WFPB over the last couple of years as a way to help keep my weight down after having a sleeve gastrectomy (I was 157.2kg). The #1 question I ask myself is not "How can I avoid ____" but "How can I eat more vegetables?" The more recipes and ideas I try, the more I discover new favorites and new "go to" foods for things like taste, comfort and convenience. It feels great to gorge myself on a delicious meal and feel zero guilt afterwards, knowing that every vegetable (and fruit, and whole grain) I eat is a step forward. I'm now down to 88.8kg and still losing!

No Mic hasn't debunked her at all, firstly he haven't felt what we have felt first-hand from these foods, I'm an ex-vegan, was vegan for 14 years and have real proof like she does, and he doesn't, I deteriorated slowly over the years and almost dead twice at end of 14 years as a vegan, and tried it all, I wouldn't switch until practically dead, and thought like mic, and felt real differences when back on animal products (real evidence for one), He's typical, like we were were , ignoring other evidence and refusing to admit this is wrong until happens to you (we were "die-hard" vegans too), and it will if you pursue this, and following his video: 1- Doesn't matter if she occasionally ate animal products, deficiencies were still there, 2- Mortality rate don't show length of time on diets or actual diets and other crucial details, 3- List of people who are vegans, only a handful and still no proof they were cheagans either, minority and coincidence only, 4- albumin is found in eggs, many vegetarians eat eggs, and why such levels would be higher, 5- Fiber deficient only means you're low on sugars which we need too, not excesses, 6- Wiki isn't a low quality source, and why are other sources wrong?, 7- Diabetes is linked to types of people with organ/genetic issues, not diet, 8- Vitamins you can't get as easily as you describe, sun etc.. like people know how to get those doses regularly, without the traditional way we've done for millions of years, 9- How do you think we manufacture other essential compounds, by themselves? no from other sources, and we're not ruminants or gorillas that can access such compounds from plants. 10- He doesn't seem to understand that humans are made differently to other animals, can't eat peanuts all day like squirrels can! And other foods like you suggest. Imagine what issues you would have, we don't have magic machines and products that magically convert all those compounds we need for us to ingest everyday conveniently (in a perfect world yes, but now it's all contained in a piece of meat, no time and means to spend all day on gathering and converting all that successfully, if even possible today, he's not realistic (dreamer like we were, and I still admire him, because I understand him and that's how I was and still are in my heart, my heart is vegan essentially, but we have to accept what we are and we we need sadly). 11- No, I was actually diagnosed very anemic many years on a vegan diet, lack of heme iron, essential , and in red meat, along with first-hand experience on iron PILLS that had negative effects (not natural and absorbed the same way). 12- No, if you check sources, agriculture was more recent. 13- You can't compare us to wolves and cats, and such receptors, remember we introduced cooking hundreds of thousands of years ago. 14 - and on and on without proof on his end, and just finding arguments for the sake of arguing without proof like we have (first-hand felt this), and he will one day. And such much more is lacking on his end, that he'll never admit, mental health, etc.. Accept and do the good we all wish to do by staying well and alive. We need good people like vegans, but we need them healthy (mentally and physically). You don't realize what you're doing to yourself, and if you die before converting back, people will just say: "He/she died prematurely, and he/she was vegan, oh well...". You'll die for nothing, not having proved anything and made things worse without meaning it. We have to continue to strive for that dream we have of eliminating suffering, and making the world a better place, however in a realistic way (likely gradual over many many years, and by staying healthy and alive, while increasing respect for all living beings over time).

Jane Faulkner yup. I noticed it when I first started transitioning to eating plant based (still eating a little animal products, as well as adding some vegan replacements). The more I transitioned, the better it got. I used to get annual sinus infections, annual flu, strep here or there, ear infections and a cold j allergies with every season.
I haven't had the flu since before I completely transitioned to an exclusively plant based diet yrs ago. I've had one cold in 2 years, and it was super short on top of it. No more sinus infections, ear infections...none of that. I *might* have a little sniffle and a touch of mucus if mold or ragweed are really high (whereas before, I would have been laid out in bed on allergy meds).

That's unfortunate. Wikipedia is at least as reliable as Encyclopedia Britannica. It has the advantage of being constantly edited by thousands of editors, too, the highest being professionals and the lowest being part-timers such as myself who usually just do minor edits like correcting spelling, grammatical or punctuation mistakes. All corrections are quite quickly checked for veracity, too, and it's rare that incorrect information stays on the site for long. It has a somewhat bad reputation because many people don't actually know how it works and think that it's run by a few amateurs.
Give it another go and I think you'll be surprised at how accurate and how good it actually is.

NOBODY under ANY situation ever in writing a book or serious paper should EVER cite wikipedia as a source, unless it's to make a point about wikipedia itself.

It is very easy to cherry-pick the data and strangle the research to make it fit whatever narrative you happen to be committed to. And while I admit that it's anecdotal, a first impression observation of people that have been eating long-term vegan usually appear malnourished and unhealthy. Also she was not cheating on eggs and dairy the whole that she vegan, it was only toward the end when her body was completely starved for nutrients that aren't found in plants that she began to stray. And there are so many other stories just like hers. So thatat was a little bit misleading to play that clip out of context. but I think it would be great to see you guys have a civil friendly debate on RUclips. It is important that all of us here the other side of the story and not get caught up in the echo chamber. this woman was committed vegan for a long time it's not really fair to just dismiss her immediately and call her a liar without hearing her side of the story.

@Glen M Of course there are exceptions. You are one of them. Most people die early or have illnesses because they eat meat, dairy and eggs. Simple fact. The points are: our bodies are designed to eat plants as our main food source. We are born herbivore. If you think not, then just take an hour or so, without discrimination, to scan the internet for information. It's there. It's blatantly obvious.
The more meat we eat, the worse off our health, the more plant based you eat, the better your health. Plain fact - scientific studies abound to show this. Mass meat industries which are required to feed the mass populations fuel cruelty, forestry destruction, pollution, viruses, and more. Plain fact. Eating meat means we live our lives due to the death and suffering of others. Fact. Eating plants is clean, green, wonderful. No deaths, no cruelty. Eating plants is healthy. There's no argument except from those who refuse to change the thought patterns drilled into them through their up bringing. Just because a society does something, and has does something for a long time, doesn't mean it is right.

There are many credible doctors that address issues of nutrition, faulty studies, environmental harms, and many other issues related to this topic that, without reading her book, validate much of what she says. We all like to live in our confirmation bias bubble. I've lived with that confirmation bias bubble in one way or another most of my life. I ran across your video and wanted to see what you had to say. I'm trying to avoid another confirmation bias bubble here. I was immediately clued into the bent of your video because of the way you initially framed the issue. When I started seeing you address topics she'd covered, without addressing her points, I could tell you haven't read the book. Read the book, look at qualified doctors who are sharing the same view about diet as Lierre, study what they say, check your studies for their validity and soundness, then come back and debunk. Then I will watch your new video and take note of what you have to say. Fwiw, you are confirming one of her points about what the vegan diet does to people's thinking and emotional responses.

Well said. I too watched this to expose myself to possible quality counterarguments and avoid confirmation bias. Alas, this is nothing more than an emotional response that is akin to watching an adolescent tantrum. I am accustomed to reading and listening to lectures delivered by nutrition scientists and health professionals who choose studies with great care, always citing when they are randomised control trials or mere epidemiology (which this person seems to use a lot of, and his counter arguments are therefore not reliable). It has also been established by many that conclusions about longevity and health from studies on the Seventh Day Adventists' vegetarian lifestyle do not stand up when compared to the similar but meat-eating Mormans who also live long healthy lives. Further, the WHO's very poor reference to a number of irrelevant studies - many of which are epidemiological- and it’s disregard for other studies, has also received much spurious criticism from top scientists in recent times. This information is all freely available on the internet and indeed RUclips. I think I’ll stick with listening to actual nutrition science rather than social media influencers from here on. This man is unconvincing from a scientific standpoint. Someone like Zoe Harcombe would discredit him in mere seconds. It is unfortunate he seems to have so much influence as people's health is at stake.

I love how he never even looked at the fact on how agriculture destroys the environment and kills animals. And all so sites from studies. That's are decades old

Livestock covers 45% of the earth’s total land
Livestock or livestock feed occupies 1/3 of the earth’s ice-free land.
Animal agriculture is the leading cause of species extinction, ocean dead zones, water pollution, and habitat destruction
Livestock operations on land have created more than 500 nitrogen flooded deadzones around the world in our oceans
2-5 acres of land are used per cow
Nearly half of the contiguous US is devoted to animal agriculture
1/3 of the planet is desertified, with livestock as the leading driver.

He chooses to ignore all the facts about how agriculture has been the worst mistake in Homo sapiens history.

As a nurse and health care screener, I completely acknowledge that veganism can be healthy but it does take effort and meal planning. Most of the "vegans" I meet skip most veggies, eat little fruit and just eat grains. They do NOT do well on their screening results and are frequently overweight and pre-diabetic. I tell them vegan and vegetarian both start with the word vegetable and that needs to be their primary food source. Find balanced meal plans or track your foods with nutrient apps or websites. Cookies and french fries are vegan but not healthy.

That's literally the same recommendation for anyone. Eat your fruit and veggies. Of course, you're never going to meet a healthy vegan in your line of work. Why would a healthy vegan go to the hospital unless they were in an accident or maybe some other congenital condition? If you look at the data, it consistently shows that those who eat meat have higher BMIs are have more cases of diabetes and heart disease.

It's funny because I was in hospital for neurological reasons and all the nurses were shocked at how perfect my blood results were and couldn't believe I was plant-based for 2 years. But as Tim said, I plan my meals accordingly and since that incident I have eliminated virtually all dairy, oils and processed foods.
