      My beginning is the opposite. I was extremely fat (238 pounds). After six months (without exercise), I'm now 200.7 pounds and decreasing. Now that I'm exercising, the decreasing rate got even better. I can clearly say I'm satisfied with my body

      Same thing happened to me. I'm technically underweight, but after switching to WFPB vegan I not only craved working out more and enjoyed my workouts immensely (that is to say I still do! This fact is absolutely incredible as even on a omniverous diet I never once experienced exuberation and excitement from exercising, yet it became a natural consequence consistently after changing my diet) but was able to generate significant muscle tone with minimal effort. On every level, I've never been as healthy as I am right now and it just keeps getting better! My diet before had me feeling lethargic and sick by comparison. My experience is clear and vibrant now, both cognitively and viscerally. I'm so thankful.

      Me too, every dietician I’ve ever had at eating disorder treatment centers has tried to talk me out of being vegan. But I’m now doing really well in recovery, still vegan (for the animals!) and my mental health is so so so much better. Of course I understand that it can be triggering, but if you come at it with the mindset of “I’m doing this for ethical and environmental reasons, as well as out of respect for myself trying to rebuild my body” there’s no reason being vegan in recovery won’t work :)

    I’m a new vegan, and I still struggle with the carbohydrate thing. The guilt ingrained in my psyche from years of diet myths is harder than actually giving up meat and dairy. Breakfast is particularly difficult - I mean, no eggs for breakfast? That’s my biggest struggle. But I’m down 9 pounds in 3 weeks and haven’t been hungry or craving stuff. And we just discovered a recipe for portobello mushrooms that mimics bacon and I’m like, I can really do this!!! Love your channel!

      Calories make us feel good, serotonin just slows down their use. One can feel pretty amazing without increasing serotonin, in fact, quite the opposite. Serotonin lowering drugs like LSD promote PlAyFuLnEsS. Dopamine is the real happy hormone, not serotonin lol.

    I'm glad you mentioned these things about detoxing. I watched "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" on Netflix, and the part 2 as well. The guy advocates for a juice cleanse and then a whole-food plant based diet the rest of the time to prevent and reverse disease, but I was so disappointed that he was still sometimes eating animal products... At the end of the day, a steady whole-food VEGAN plant based diet is going to work best and people will be able to better maintain their weight as well as good health this way.

    • @TheYakisobaNoodle
      @TheYakisobaNoodle 6 лет назад +12

      Immortal
      And how long have you been on this diet? How many calories do you eat a day? I was keto for 6 months and began to get heart pains until I stoppd and switched to plant based. I also didn't lose weight despite eating 1200 or less calories a day and going to the gym 3 times a week and hiking or running the other 4 days. Funnily enough, the shortest living populations are the ones that eat exclusively meat (such as the Inuit who only live on average to be about 40 and whose mummies are riddled with atherosclerosis). Studies also show that children put on a keto diet for epilepsy begin to develop problems such as high cholesterol and atherosclerosis. So you are either extremely lucky, exercise enough to not be extremely unhealthy (much like the cultures in the past that ate almost exclusively meat and didn't die *that* young because they were running 10 miles or more a day), or you are just a bold faced liar. Shawn Baker is all the evidence I need to prove these points. As much as you want to believe that your diet is best, I'm at least 90% sure you would have a better time on a whole foods plant based diet. Our bodies run on carbs, man! Just look at our gut length, gut microbiome, and the enzymes in our saliva and stomach acid. And if you do decide to take my advice (which I doubt tbh but it's worth it to help at least one misguided person) then don't be alarmed if you feel sick for the first week. It is your body switching back to carbs as well as the bad bacteria you have been building up by digesting rotten meat dying off and putting up a fight. That and you might gain some water weight as carbs hold on to water (this is why you lose about 6 lbs when you first start Carnivore or Keto and why you must consume excessive amounts of electrolytes on these diets). Good luck!
      (P.S. Look into TMAO and endotoxins, that's what really got me questioning keto and the like)

    • @TheYakisobaNoodle
      @TheYakisobaNoodle 6 лет назад

      Immortal And then again, if you are Eco Atkins or something, you should see how many vegans still die of heart disease with high oil diets. Pretty interesting! That and Eco Atkins is incredibly boring and restrictive as compared to how many fruits and vegetables you can eat while whole food plant based.

    • @exposed4763
      @exposed4763 6 лет назад +2

      TheYakisobaNoodle I've been on it for about a year, but I don't like to call it a keto diet even though I am in ketosis because I don't eat muscle meat like most keto people do. I eat 2000 kcal a day, every day, only once a month it might vary a little. I am really shocked that you were unable to lose weight at 1200 kcal. What's your ethnicity? A lot of our science and studies are done on Caucasians. Different races have very different genetics when it comes to food. I never tribute weight loss or obesity to either carbs or fat, thats just silly, it's to do with calories, although with protein it is a different case. I lose weight and gain weight easily on both fat and carbs diets. Although my weight is perfect, that isn't the reason I'm on a "keto" diet. It just so happens that by trying to find the perfect diet based on chemistry and biology, I ended up on a diet that was all fish (the whole fish with it's organs, not just the muscle) dark leafy greens, and eggs. Eggs only raise your cholesterol if you really needed it, since cholesterol is essential for your cells, hormones, and reparing damage, especially to your arteries, hence why it contributes to plaque build up to keep your arteries intact, but also leads to CVD. Statins are great because they block cholesterol and stop CVD but your arteries, cells, and hormones become impaired. Keeps you alive longer as intended but you are in terrible health; slow painful death. Avoiding cholesterol is just silly. Shawn baker is a moron. He ate nothing but burnt muscle meat and thought that was enough to sustain him. Muscle meat, especially when cooked, provides you with very little in terms of nutrition and is a carcinogen. Shawn baker doesn't prove your points for avoiding eating animals, since he didn't eat animals, he ate a part of the animals, worst part, and burnt the shit out of it. Amylase isn't actually designed to break down starchy foods, it breaks down small amounts of starch in foods that contain a bit of it like plant foods. That is why you need to cook yams, potatoes etc... because eating it raw is 20x less efficiently digested. A simple home test can prove this just get some amylase and raw starch and the right pH etc... and you'll see it is bad at breaking it down. Thus why you need to cook it to break it up. You also mentioned about undigested meat in the gut, that is actually true, for those eating muscle meat. Fish is so bioavaiable, it's rapidly digested and absorbed and doesn't hang around in the gut long enough to cause any problems. I can't say the same for mammal organs since I haven't done the research for that, if there is any, but for fish it's 100% fact. "Fish has mercury and dioxins" small fish has hardly any of either, also they are high in selenium. Mercury isn't directly bad for you. It's bad because it attaches to selenium, but with high amounts of selenium and very little mercury, it causes zero harm. Although I eat plant foods, they aren't perfect either, but I won't bash them because they have way more benefits than harm, just like fish. Yes, processed oil is terrible for you. I forgot to mention that I am a pescotarian, if that wasn't obvious already lol. Also, i believe you when you say you got heart pains on a keto diet because those typical keto diets are just terrible. I dont believe you when you said you were unable to lose weight at 1200 kcal, even with genetics differences and eat nothing but mcdonalds, you'll still lose a lot of weight. The main reason I decided to cut all carbs out wasn't because of obesity or any of that nonsense, it was because carbs contain very little nutrients in comparison to fish and plant foods and I wanted to keep my diet as nutrient dense low kcal as possible. Mic: "fat is 9kcal and carbs is 4kcal (it's actually 3.75 but w.e)". True, but fat being 9kcal per gram doesn't matter if you set a limit on how many kcal you eat a day. Plus, fat makes you fuller for that exact reason. Idk why Mic mentions such moronic things at times. I listen to him a lot because I like to get balanced information from all sources.

    I'm super annoyed by the belief that you need to eat animal foods to get B12. There have been a lot of articles in the news recently and they all mention B12 being available in animal foods and that makes it seem like animal foods are necessary... But they never mention that BACTERIA make B12. Makes me so mad!

    • @swites
      @swites 6 лет назад

      Fabdanc Yeah its funny. They make out that animals create B12 out of thin air! You read the back of the packet to any guinea pig, rabbit or horse feed and they all put B12 in it! Having animals with good levels of B12 increases their health and weight so many farmers supplement their livestock with it to help production. In some areas like the Taupo Volcanic Plateau in NZ there is no naturally occuring cobalt in the soil. The B12 molecule has a cobalt in the center so bacteria can't make B12. The livestock in that area all got muscle wasting disease and died before they knew about B12 back in the day, and what was causing this.

    • @UntakenNick

      Tomatoes are acidic but they alkalize the body in their whole form/ blended, but, sadly enough, most of these tomato sauces pizza places use are processed with oil, (lots of salt) and preservatives that help retain the taste, so, that along with super salty and fatty cheese is a no go and no wonder people feel like crap after eating it.

    I want to comment on your first point Mic. First of all, I’m totally on your side with a WFPB diet and physical activity. However, there is most certainly a significant genetic/biological component to obesity that I think should be mentioned. Of course a person’s actions matter and it’s not “completely out of their control,” but there is clearly a biological difference amongst people that influence adiposity. I don’t care how much I eat my genetics would never allow me to become 400+ pounds. When we’re only taking about 20-40 pounds of excess weight then yes, clearly your choices matter. Still, way too many people think obesity is strictly a matter of will power. I think it’s clear that poor dietary choices, full of calorie dense and nutrient poor food, coupled with a lack of physical activity leads to obesity but to a much greater extent in genetic susceptible people.
    If you want a review I would recommend watching a lecture by one of your favorite doctors, Garth Davis, on the subject (ruclips.net/video/uqEm37PtpPU/видео.html)
    Here is some of the research that he mentions:
    Adoption studies - adopted children are much more likely to match their biological parents’ weight rather than their adopted parents
    Twin studies - identical twins (living together or separated at birth) will have very similar rates of obesity whereas fraternal twins have different obesity rates
    Functional MRI studies - Obese people have significantly lower levels of dopamine receptors in their brains, which is the reward center of the brain. Dopamine allows people to have a pleasurable sensation after certain activities such as eating or sex. This means obese people seem to have a physiological mechanism that leads to less satisfaction after eating therefore increased hunger and tendency to overeat. Very obese people will tell you that they are hungry all day long and rarely satisfied after meals.
    Weight Loss drugs - weight loss drugs have been effective at producing weight loss by targeting hormone receptors such as norepinephrine and serotonin, suggesting obesity has a hormonal component. There was a trial where people were losing weight simply by taking a drug each day. Without telling the patients, the researchers switched the drug to a placebo and the subjects’ weights started to return increase again. This shows a clear hormonal component to obesity and goes against the idea that it is a matter of will power and control.
    There are numerous other hormonal components to consider such as ghrelin, leptin, insulin resistance, etc that a bit more complex.
    Ultimately I think this is a discussion about overweight vs morbidly obese. There is clearly a biological/genetic component that would allow someone to get morbidly obese. While people can obviously change their weight by adopting healthy behaviors, it is wrong for people to tell the obese that they are fat simply because they lack control or will power. I definitely agree with you that it is important to provide hope to people that there are always things they can do to improve their weight and they are not a complete victim to their genes. Especially with the growing body of research (pun intended) that dietary choices can actually affect your genes (epigenetics)!

    Has anyone here read "the amazing liver and gallbladder flush" by Andreas Moritz? He speaks directly to soap stones in liver flush argument

    • @alfinenathalie
      @alfinenathalie 6 лет назад +5

      I wonder the same thing. My assumption is no. I came across Andrea's work years ago and his extensive research/books/online responses/articles/videos helped me settle into my understanding of the unnecessity (new word) of animal flesh/products in the human diet. I went on to acquire the book you mentioned along with Timeless Secrets of Health & Rejuvenation and just completed my 7th liver flush last month with the best results I've had thus far. Due to not doing a traditional pre-flush-colonic (I used oxypowder instead -- trying to cut corners since I'm more experienced), the oil & grapefruit juice solution came back up upon awakening. Still, it triggered the largest stone release I've had yet.
      Considering the amount of stones and old (and smelly) bile sludge that was released in my post-colonic, I can't jive with the claims of Mic and other 'researchers' who have never undergone a single flush that this is the result of soap and oil. I would at least expect that it would then come out smelling like salad dressing just as it went in lol. And I respect the work Mic does.
      Not to mention countless people who have experienced relief with digestion, acne, facial depressions, arthritic pains and ailments, etc. Won't even get into my own testimony here.
      But hey, to each, her own. Luckily, I've come to my dietary choices and seasonal cleansing (kidney, liver, colon) protocols based on my own bodily intuition, research and personal experimentation. I stick with what has worked for me based on trial. Deeply glad for that. Otherwise, I see how people hop on or off bandwagons because they saw a video of a passionate person expressing something and immediately write something on or off because "well this person said.."
      Have you tried it for yourself, though? Following the correct protocol?
      I've been seeing many videos lately of people denouncing veganism for reasons that lead me to feel that they only ventured into it because they were convinced by another rather than their own body & intuitive guidance, which to me, is of deeper value than another's opinion. I also feel that for some people, it's more about belonging to a group and standing for something. Thus, they'll start with veganism - something won't work well while maintaining that diet, then they'll switch to carnivorous whatever and start bashing the other side while feeling all high and mighty with a new group who can now throw beans and nuts at the others. Insanity lol.
      Anyway, I SO didn't mean to get all lengthy here. Just a topic I'm deeply passionate about as it's brought great relief and improvement to myself and close family members.
      Be well!

      High carb diets do two thing. They use the energy from the carbs quick. 2nd any carb that isn't used is turned into fat. There is no protein in it so no muscle can be built...Thus skinny fat. Vegans are all skinny fat because the macro and micro nutrients they put in their body's promote it. There is no other outcome.

No oil and lemons to cause soapy balls... although, I was a raging alcoholic at the time, so it could be fatty liver balls, instead of galstones? I was doing daily enemas at the time, otherwise I doubt I would have been passing anything, after starving for 9 days. I thought the gut seratonin was why I felt so good on a fiber vegan diet. Guess it’s just the healthy foods and lack of toxins like meat and dairy.

    Those were my first two attempts at a cleanse and I think it was based on PubMed articles, but it might have been a RUclips video. I am trying to heal my dog of Hemangiosarcoma, but thought maybe getting the toxins from years of vacinnes and flea and tick meds and pesticides and bug killer out would be a good addition to the rest of the things I am trying. Genuinely interested.

    Can someone help me with something? A few years back i got into a discussion with someone about Gelatin. My questions are, Is gelatin a requirement, and what specific or distinctive purpose does gelatine protein serve if any?
    I realize there are plant based alternatives but as far as I can see, Im not even sure its a requirement. All my searches have resulted in "benefits of" but none explicitly proclaiming gelatin to be a requirement for the body.
    Thanks in advice.

    About the "protein combining". I recently had a 3 day discussion with a biochemist who vehemently defended this nonsense. When I showed him the facts, his conclusion was: "When a certain food has a bit too little of a certain amino acid, it is then concluded that is lacks this amino acid".
    I sometimes think university diploma is worthless.
