Dan...Oh My Gosh...you are wonderful!! I am a 66 year old that has spent numerous hours trying to copy in Windows 7 (for days.) After viewing your instruction video ...this old lady was able to copy within 10 minutes! Wow!! Thank you ever! Vicky
wish all 'home-made' instructional videos on youtube, were 'this straightforward'. wow. 10/10 no stupid music in background, spoken in 100% pure awesome, uncluttered ENGLISH... concise, to-the-point', with visual illustration.....just.... shocked that i just watched something 'so good'. so refreshingly helpful, as opposed to 'so, so, so..many on here', who screw this sort of thing up, from the get go. thank you Dan... this should be used for the TEMPLATE of "How to post a self-help' video tutorial. you sir, are a fine American...
Thanks a million Dan! You just saved me a lot of time getting around a ton of distractions computers are putting in your path nowadays to get you to use their product. Your technique is simple and to the point. Love it.
Dan, I can't thank you enough for this video. My Grandmother just passed away and I was given a DVD with compilations of old home movies. And I wanted to make some for my father, aunts, uncles, cousins and so forth. I feel I'm pretty tech savvy since part of my job is making wiring diagrams, owners manuals, service manuals and alot of complex software....However I was very humbled when i couldn't figure out how to rip a simple dvd onto my computer...I didn't want to go out and buy the software since I don't rip alot of DVD's. Thanks to you though, i will be able to share some of the memories of my Grandmother with the rest of my family....THANK YOU!!!
Hello Dan I congratulate you on a VERY good instruction video. You managed to make it simple, clear and easy for an old man like me to follow. I was 16 years old when my profile photo was taken - I am now 74. So, one again. Well done and thank you.
Anyone else who claims to make How To guides on youtube needs to watch this one first, to see how it's done. No fuss, works well. Sorted out a problem I was having with film project files I had lost on my laptop but had luckily already copied to a dvd. I can now duplicate.
Dan, Thank you for you video. I gave up hunting around on the Microsoft Help sites trying to find out how to make a copy. Your video was straight forward and easy to follow. I have my copies made!!
I play with a community chamber orchestra, and since I'm the most computer literate person in the orchestra, it fell to me to make copies of the DVD that was recorded at our recent concert. Unfortunately, the DVD was recorded with .vob video files. I tried Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Media Player, Video Star, and the VLC player to duplicate the DVD, with no success. With Express Burn, I was able to "copy" the disk, but I had to insert the disk of origin each time and wait around 12 minutes for the files to be copied from the disk and then another 12 minutes or so for the material to be written to a blank disk - 24 minutes per copy! Aargh! (And, our director told me she wanted 20 copies.) Thanks to your video, I was able to save the files to my desktop, only having to wait one time for the material to be copied from the disk, then I can burn as many disks as I want using the method you showed here. It is now taking me four minutes per disk. Thank you!!! One thing your viewers should know is that, on my computer at least, if you tell it you want to burn more disks, when you insert a new blank disk, it ejects the disk and says, "Please insert a blank disk." If I start from scratch with each disk (open the D: drive and drag the files there), it works perfectly. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for sharing "this how to". I wanted to make copies of my Father's memorial so the whole family could have a copy and I could not figure it out until I found your video. It worked beautifully and it was easy to follow. Thank you again.
Many thanks, Dan. This is an excellent instructional video. Clear, easy to follow and accurate. If you are not a teacher, you certainly could be an excellent one. Thanks so much for posting this.
Thanks Dan, this worked perfectly without having to download any additional programs. I am pretty computer savvy but was trying to do this on an older computer running windows 7 and could not figure it out...this saved me time and headaches.
Your version worked for me perfectly! After I receive the new WMP and can rip and burn much faster, I'll be a little more happy since the process will go faster by a landslide. You saved me in a serious pinch this morning, much thanks~
Dan thank you so much the best explanation ever such good clear diction and explanation it worked perfectly for me you are wonderful and much appreciated by this 80 year old. Thanks a million. Murdo Macleod
HI Folks- I wish I could be more helpful but the video above is all I can offer. As mentioned by others in the comments, there are programs out there that will do this for you. I truly don't know why this method works for some and not others. I guess it might have something to do with the brand of DVD drive in your computer but that's only a guess. There are also many other videos here on youtube how to copy DVDs. Good luck!!
Hi there. Just wanted to thank you for this tutorial. I did exactly what you said in your video & it worked perfectly for me using windows 7. It's sooooo easy. :0)
Thank you soooo much Dan!! I have been on the internet searching for the last two days trying to find a" how to" that I could grasp and this worked flawlessly!!! I am just savvy tec enough to get in trouble so all this wasn't foreign to me but I did need the simple version. You did deliver**** KUDOS :)
This video shows how to copy a homemade DVD to share with friends using just Windows 7 explorer and no extra software.. It is not how to copy a commercial copy protected DVD.
My "DVD copier" in Windows 7 must be corrupt, because your instructions were simple and easy to follow, but all I'm getting is a black screen on my TV for the playback. I'll try it with another family DVD before re-installing Windows 7 (and subsequently having to re-load all my programs).
Hi, this was very helpful. I have copied files to a DVD before. Now that I have this DVD in my computer, How do I copy only a portion of that downloaded DVD to another DVD? I then want to share it on the computer with a family member.
Try a different DVD player. Some of my DVDs will only play on one of my players. Surprisingly, the cheaper the player the more likely it is to play the disc.
I'm having issue with. I can record my homemade video from desktop, but when I try to play in our DVD player, it say. Unreadable disc or data. I've tried using DVD-R DVD+R DVD RW I've tried to play the disk in different DVD players. I've wasted over 15 disc. Do you have any tips??
Hi Dan,I follow your instructons how to copy and burn. The dvd I am copying said 110 minutes. My blank said 120 minutes, but when I go to burn it said not enough free space. can you help. tnx
I have a question. Sometimes it's a very long DVD. Do you have to buy high-capacity blank DVD's or is there a way to break it up into smaller portions? Thank you.
is there any way to unprotect the folder? because Im trying to copy and paste it but i get an error saying that I dont have permission to complete the action
So I just copied my DVD and it plays fine on my PC. But it wont play on my DVD Player. It shows up as unknown file on my DVD player. Any suggestions on what to do?
Hello, it’s 7 years since you posted this video. You video is helpful. My problem is my windows 7 computer doesn’t recognize the disc. The original copy from tape does play in my tv DVD player. Any help would be awesome.
I tried this burn dvd windows 7 But it will not work on some of my friends dvd players? 🤔 Please help. I made about 12 for a few of my friends but just state's dosent recognise dvd 📀? Sorry for troubling you. Kindest personal regards Richard 😎 Ps it works on 2 cd player's were I am at.
Good instruction (I am a retired teacher). However, I followed your instructions, but my files will not drag off my desktop, what can I do? They drag in every other program, I am very frustrated. Thank you for you kind consideration and speedy response. (These are home movies, not copyrighted). Win 7 Thanks again
Dan Dobson, you are a blessing. A God among men. I'll tell tales of your kind heartedness to my children, and theirs.

Thank you for you video. I gave up hunting around on the Microsoft Help sites trying to find out how to make a copy. Your video was straight forward and easy to follow. I have my copies made!!
Dan, did you notice if you lost any resolution when you made the copy or is it as sharp as the original. Tks

To keep those windows from opening up when you put in DVD, just hold the "Shift" button for about 15 sec.
Thanks -- useful!
