Eton Rifles - John Wheeler
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 окт 2012
- Shot around Cambridge, England on 12 different street pianos, this is John Wheeler's re-invention of the classic Jam song - inspired by British Prime Minister David Cameron's remark that it was his favourite song of all time. Hopefully, this version makes the lyrics impossible to miss or misinterpret.
From the album "Un-American Gothic" released February 4, 2013.

16 years in Cambridge hey John?Feckin love the music, can't thank you enough for that ,party on mate
John is such a nice guy I've met him after many a gig. Nice to see a different side to his music. Love this.
JOHN WHEELER IS A VERY COOL GUY ; A SMART AND SAVVY MUSICIAN. ANOTHER AMERICAN NATIONAL TREASURE.
I love john he's got such an amazing voice really love the songs he sings as well
Can't wait to see hayseed Dixie in a few weeks :)
'Thought you were clever when you lit the fuse, tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes, composed a revolutionary symphony, then went to bed with a charming young thing'.
Paul Weller's young, fresh, eloquent take down of the punk myth (a charming young thing). The phoney revolution - pseudo anarchistic posturing (thought you were clever when you lit the fuse), shoes and haircuts against the hereditary elitist capitalist establishment (tore down the house of commons in your brand new shoes). Write a catchy tune about it (composed a revolutionary symphony), sell it to the hopeful youth and, fuck 'em, cash in (then went to bed with a charming young thing).
Superb poetry.
Truely amazing musican the cover is awsome keep the songs comin john
Great reworking , loved it
Classic song reworked in a style that's legible and a good listen, still not a patch on John's live version on the acoustic guitar when full of beer and his peckers up at a HD gig, equaling his cover of Eternal flame
Love this, love your music (hayseed dixie to) you have an amazing voice, keep up the music it amazing, :D. So wished i got meet you. Cambridge to far :(
Love this take on the song better than the original , although o do love John’s voice met him at several hayseed Dixie shows such a fantastic bloke
Great idea, great performance. Thank you!
Awesome cover, mate. That's Cambridge, isn't it? The irony is brilliant. The Eton rifles (D. Cameron, B. Johnson, and other tories, also members of the Bullingdon Club) went to Balliol College, Oxford.
this is great
Superb John - great video and great voice - hope you get the success you deserve with Un-American Gothic.

Good work mate, keep it up! Shared as much as I can.
Love this!
love it .
Gorgeous voice!
Epic song
Can we have more insight like this? I've never seen such a great, well thought out comment. Dick.
Superb video ... Why 'unlisted' on youtube ?
Cracking cover, I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
I notice you like singing the odd german song now and again, might one request you do a cover of Drury's "Hit me with your rhythm stick"? I think it might sound grand with a Scotch/Wheeler twist to it.
Do you see 56 likes and no dislikes?
understand why now...
Carefully considered comment win. I feel much smarter for reading this.
Still think it's a great cover...
Ah, but you're wasting such a great opportunity here . . . For example, you could have said something like, "the mind-numbingly basic piano playing reminds one of Coldplay covering 'The Rose' while under general anesthesia." That would have been funny and retro. Or you could have said something more directly nasty like, "Wheeler's strained attempt at 'singing' conjures up a diseased coyote imitating Elvis Costello, yet fails in the attempt." Funny and biting. C'mon - show me how clever you are!
Nothing to do with the piano or a rabies ridden coyote, I don't think your voice suits the tone of the lyrics. I'm sure you were interviewed by George Lamb on BBC 6 music once upon a time, I enjoyed that interview
Shit
No, this cover doesn't do it for me at all,
Official? Lol okay.
Vocals are too forced and 'west end'.
Is this meant to be funny?
+Johnny Twohats No. But since only the truth is ultimately funny, then yes. It's actually just meant to be a version where the lyrics can't be missed. That was my intention anyway. Everybody else can laugh or cry, or more preferably do both.
It's a shit cover, I don't need to qualify it.
