I bought the single temp spike last year. First, let me say I absolutely love thermopro. I have an instant read thermopro that I've had for years, and it's my go-to! So i decided to get the temp spike. I love it except for the battery life. It's only good for about 4 hours. This is a deal breaker for me since most of my cooks are 6+ hrs long. Maybe i got a dud, but it's too late to return it now...
Concern is for the newer extended range claim brought on by bluetooth 5.2. Many many phones out there DO NOT have bluetooth 5.2. Usually 5.0 or maybe 5.1
@@tomwadek Nice! So basically it can be used instead of the builtin probe with a wire in my convection oven? :) Its nice not having to worry about wires!
Just got the TempSpike and I thought it worked really well. Wasn't able to find the Twin in stock anywhere, though. I'll buy another in the future. The app can use a good upgrade as I like some of the features on the Meater App, but it wasn't a deal breaker.
great review, especially showing a visual on the disconnect range. I'm gonna take a long shot now....do you have any idea on a UK release date by any chance?
@@tomwadek I got a reply back from Thermopro and they expect it will be available in the UK late August/early September. Just thought I would put this info up just in case anyone else asks👍
I just got a Meater+ and it's junk. Constantly loses connection link doesn't work. I'm going to return it and try the Thermopro. Does it have Wi-fi connectivity to allow me to monitor my cook from anywhere?
@@tomwadek or a case of beer, cooler, ice , chairs, and sit around with friends at house or a friendly competition and use an actual thermometer. ZERO excuses needed.
Great vid well presented....thank you. Now subscribed. I think I will purchase this. Two questions please....can you set the internal temp manually rather than presets and under what circumtances would you want to use two probes... Thanks
I have this product. I love it when it works. One of the probes will NOT hold a charge. 30 minutes max. The other probe is fine. Also, when I spray the meat with apple juice and ANY of the liquid gets on the end of the probe, they stop working. I have to pull them out, take them in the house, clean the probes and re-insert. By that time, the white probe is out of battery and, no matter how long it's on the charger, it'always shows low charge. I can only give it 3 stars for that reason. Do you know if the battery in the probe can be replaced???
Hi Tom, Great video and very informative! I have a question, like you I own the Meater block (x4 probes) and fpr the most part it has been excellent, but I have been suffering the same drop outs and disconnection issues. The Meater is WI-FI enabled, but I notice that the Tempspike is not. One of the main advantages the Meater has for me is the fact I can monitor my cooks when I am not at home via WI-FI. If I were to connect the Tempspike to my iPad at home, would I be able to monitor my cooks from my iPhone when not at home, or does it not have that functionality? Many thanks, Matt.
You didn't mention that with a secondary device and connected to the meater + cloud your range is now extended. All the way to your nearest supermarket.
before doing a review I negotiate a discount for my viewers who would like to buy the product. If the product doesn’t interest you, the link won’t matter.
Some probes will tell you the resting time. The rule of thumb is, you should rest a steak for at least half the time it took to cook it. So, if you cooked your steak for 10 mins, you should let it rest for 5mins and so on.
Hey Tom...great video..i to own several Thermopros 2 questions...i own a Lone Star Grill....do you think the probes will register through the thicker metal of my Lone Star and do you think Thermopro will come out with a 4 probe device anytime soon as a wireless 4 probe is what im looking for....Thank You
I recently did a detail review on the most popular probes. In the video I tested the range of the probes on my gas grill which is kinda a range killer. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/EKikURzBoec/видео.html I dont know if they will come out with a 4 probe model. If they did, I would think it would be sometime next year.
Define accurate? Lol. The probes will always measure different than your oven or grill because they are measuring directly at the point near the meat. So, the probes are giving you the most accurate reading compared to your food
@@tomwadek Thank you. Yeah I knew it wouldn’t read what the analog thermometer is reading on my smoker but I have had wired probes in the past that would be like 100 degrees off from each other witch told me that at least one of them was wrong. I like to test different probes. I do have a 4 probe thermometer from thermapro that is actually pretty accurate I think for ambient temps. I think it’s called a pt25 if memory serves correctly.

Recently saw a review from smoking dadbbq where he compared 4 or 5 from a side by side perspective. I would suggest you review it for future content/review ideas as he goes into good levels of detail. Some key items you are missing are temp accuracy, how hot you can leave the temp probe in the heat, warranty, and even the thickness/diameter of the probe, which the temp spike looks very thick. Honestly, your review seems biased on how you are framing things and neglecting other key items. Just writing this for constructive criticism as I never leave comments, but felt compelled to do so on this video.
When I first got mine I loved it. I needed something that would allow me to go jnto my basement with my phone. The range allows this. So cool. However, after several cooks the probe will not charge all the way. And the Bluetooth continues to blink when it shouldn't. The base charges fully. It's just the probe I'm having issues with. The ambient temp takes a while to come up to temp. And I kind of question the temp accuracy of the ambient part. I SOOO want to love this thing. Anyone else having these issues??

I think that’s fair and valid.
Basically all android phones from the past 3 years have 5.2 and up. It's only an iPhone issue. Surprise surprise.
The internal rechargeable battery becomes an issue when it can no longer be recharged. You have to find a place to dispose of the battery.
The trash can.

I wonder what kind of battery it uses? I assume it's not lithium ion or lithium polymer, because that would explode at high temperatures.

500ft is theoretical or lab conditions.
