Purling starts at 4:40. Ribbing 5:54. First 4 1/2 min is just how she wraps the yarn in her fingers and does knit stitches. Skip to these marks if you want the title of the video info
I didn't know the difference between this and continental so I looked it up, I'm guessing the only difference is that you hold the yarn with the left finger instead. That's how I was taught, and I believe it's only faster since you can grab the yarn easier with less movement when you poke your right needle into the stitch on the left needle. Might be worth trying out for those who find their right index finger hurting from this style. Great videos, you did well explaining what you're doing! :)
Thank you for both brilliant videos. I am a seasoned knitter, but has never been able to knit fast. Your detailed explanation and demonstration on both video have helped me a great deal and at last, I find that I can now watch television, have a conversation whilst knitting and have increased my speed since practising your style. Thank you again so much
I use this method for english throwing and it is easier on my wrists, although more tiring perhaps for my index finger lol. And I'm going to try the purling this way too. I already hold my stitches really packed onto the end of my needles when I do this, it's the only way I've found to get the speed I want. And I need to trust that the yarn is not going to slip off when I move it to purl. The yarn almost looks like it has to kind of be 'dragged' or kind of 'fall' off the needle with this method and it scares me every time, but it does work and increases your speed. Going to try this method for purling.
Another great tutorial about this way of knitting. What bothers me about continental is that the stitches are mounted differently? Does that really make a difference? I can knit that way and I know I could convert to that method but I don't know if that really makes a big difference in the entire pattern piece. What do you think?
The stitches in continental aren’t mounted differently. In both English and Continental the yarn is wrapped counterclockwise. If you are wrapping it clockwise then you’re knitting in an Eastern fashion, or combination knitting. That would make a difference in some of the decrease and increase stitches you may encounter.
I just looked at both knitting faster videos and have a couple of questions, please. First, how are you holding your needle in your right hand? It looks like you are mostly holding it against the side of your middle finger with your thumb and more lightly holding the rest of the needle shank with your ring finger and pinky. Second, when you do pivot your right needle to be in a more vertical position, how are you achieving this pivot exactly? Are you using your thumb and middle finger? Or your ring finger and pinky? Thanks for any insights! :-)
Hi, I need help in keeping my yarn on the tip of my finger. It wants to move further down on my finger. I’m so frustrated. Any tips of how I can get it to stay up. Thank you
Excellent video! Thank you, thank you😊I loom knit and some things just aren’t the same as needle knitting. I have bought cheap needles but the carpel tunnel in my hands holds me back. I am wondering what kind of needles you are using. I am going to ask my husband for a good set of interchangeable but not sure what kind. Light in weight and something more pointy i think would work for me. Maybe hiyahya’s. I would love your opinion.
Oh that’s hard if carpel tunnel is causing problems. I’m using hiya hiya sharps in this video and have been really liking them for socks. I don’t have the interchangeable set of hiya hiyas but do have the chiaogoo and really like them. The hiya hiya sharps are pointier but I like the chiaogoo ford better... both are pretty lightweight although are heavier than the aluminum set I have- I don’t like the aluminum as well but they are lighter if that is a major factor. It’s hard to know what would be your best bet!
First I can not find purling part, then I can not follow these instructions. None of the parts od movement have been explained - needle holding and moving, waiting and done stitches handling. 😮
You are knitting too fast we need to see how your finger is getting the yarn around the needle....and you spent too much time on wrapping yarn around fingers...I am trying to learn this but you would need to slow down to really teach a person to do this

I have subscribed and I’m wondering if you could maybe cover a video on how to change colors without leaving dashes?

So glad it was helpful!

Thank you for your tutorial I highly appreciated the video so I can knit with 2 colors with both English and Continental Style

hi Kendra!
what an amazing video!!!!
may i ask, what knitting needles do you use?
thank you so much!!
Good video, but would like to see you slow down 😀
Your explanations are perfect!
I would love to see the slow motion?

It is mostly pinched between the thumb and middle finger with the other fingers resting but the thumb is mostly helping it to pivot
@@KendraMakes Thanks! I'll give this another try.
The actual purling starts @ 4.41
Was way to blurred to see it well... every time you wanted to see it closer it was very blurred

I’d say just try to keep the tension fairly tight so it doesn’t have room to slip!

this DIY mom life THANK YOU! You have given me a lot to think about. Thanks for answering, greatly appreciated and very helpful.

Any chance you’re put up a slower video
Hey BWer! :)
Hello mystery person! :)
You are knitting too fast we need to see how your finger is getting the yarn around the needle....and you spent too much time on wrapping yarn around fingers...I am trying to learn this but you would need to slow down to really teach a person to do this
You should probably watch part one first :)
