    My niece lost the oil in her 4.0 and didn’t know any better and drove it home. It got oil back in it and was fine, like to see the 3.8 do that. 4.0 is bomb proof!

      That happened to our 2009 JK 3.8. Still running fine at 150k miles knock on wood.
      It’s known for consuming oil yet is considered to be a durable engine so I think you’re a little off base. Im sure many people have run the 3.8 low on oil.

    I know you guys are funded by sponsors but it felt like this was 75% advertising and 25% content. You didn't even deliver on the title of this video, the TJ never even drove. I believe you guys have the ability to make good videos, but what you've been doing on TV for 20 years or however long it's been won't cut it anymore. Dirt everyday from MT is the benchmark for me and this is no where close.

      "This episode sucked ass"
      ...as it was a controlled advert for products / sponsors and not a head-to-head competition to where the 4.0L vs 3.8L duked it out was ever shown.
      The Jeep 4.0L is the superior engine in all regards and it's wasn't even wheeled in the same terrain, yet even driven where the JoKe was.
      If the TJ were offroad, it would have gobs of controlled low-end torque to beat the minivan motor that the thin sheetmetal'd Jeep JoKe used.
      ChryCo. Jeep shot themselves in the privates by getting rid of that AMC inline six motor: it was old and not modern, but worked for what it was designed to do and was tougher than any v6 that Chrysler used after it.
      Horsepower sells cars; Torque moves them.
      *Last year for any real Jeep was 2006*

      You did not watch the whole thing, as you said, so let me fill you in on the comparison: there was never any sort of dyno or actual driving comparisons made. None. This is total CLICKBAIT shit posted to sell stuff to kids. It is garbage. You called it. I wish I had read your comment before wasting over twenty minutes of my life waiting for comparisons between the two engines that never happened. Further, ding-dong dripped the rear of the head onto the gasket before it was lined up. In fact, the gasket was not even on the block straight. You can see the other guy have to move it back after the first one dinged up the cylinder 6 area. You can clearly see it. I am fairly certain that the head gasket was pinched hard in several spots, and that's a big no-no. TruckU sucks.Someone needs to tell them to TruckOff!

      The solution to the oil consumption issue with the 3.8 is use to use 5w-30 instead of 5w-20. That’s what the engine originally called for. Chrysler changed to the lighter weight to improve fuel mileage to improve EPA standards. The 3.8 is totally fine. I don’t get why so many like to rag on it.
      I’ve had a 2009 JK with the 3.8 in it for 12 years and it now has 150k miles. I’ve never found it lacking.

    the 4.0 is a tested true runner. to the redline off the rev limiter in the mud for years it will run go and go.. youll get 200k easily out of the solid power plant. the 3.8 is junk minivan motor. their prone to just falling appart under 100k miles under just driving down the road. a super charger will just kill it quicker..

  • @Tehcrewful
    @Tehcrewful 6 лет назад +4

    I've owned a supercharged car and I had also had the same model that was naturally aspirated. The supercharged car drank 93 like it was going out of style. The supercharger adds more air and that requires more fuel and that drops the MPG. Because superchargers are belt driver it takes power to make that power plus it's always turning and causing you to burm more fuel than stock. But the fun fact is insane with a twin screw blower becasue the hit is so big and so early you just can't stop grinning like an idiot every time you mash the gas.

    Despite the heat soak and over heating issues due to the design of the 4.0. The 3.8 can’t and won’t hang in terms of durability. Of course the maintenance and care that you give either engine is a big factor.
    That being said.... Giving roller rockers to one and a charger on the other? Seriously? LoL

    Did the 3.8 survive the Supercharger? For how long? There's little information available about the 3.8's crank - the Cast Crank in the 3.3 version of the motor is the reason why the factory nixxed any plans to add boost - In the dyno cell used to homologate he motor for emissions and production testing, a turboed 3.3 had the crank let go without warning. It's documeted over on the Allpar website with an interview from the dyno cell operator.

    The 3.8 is a solid engine with a little more power than the 4.0 and a similar power curve.
    What gives many the impression it has less power is the lag in the drive by wire system and a poor rear axle ratio that Jeep chose for the JK on base models.

    What killed the 4.0 more than anything else was packaging. You only had one platform using the motor. About the only other possible platform was as the base engine in the Ram. Mound Road had a lot more traction in corporate than KEP so that wasn't gonna happen. Getting it to pass tighter emissions would be a real bitch. Their were options on the table so to speak. By putting meat back into the block they could have gone diesel. As I understand it a 24 valve head was looked into. Both pushrod and OHC.

    +25 bhp and +25 ft-lb from roller rockers on the straight six jeep engine? you guys must have misunderstood 505, cuz that is plain bs. put in a performance head and you can get that much increase, but not just from roller rockers.

      If they're different ratio rockers you can gain some power, but 25/25 is a bit much

      lol i have a set of 1.7 rollers in my 4.0 and well you notice them you kinda dont to be honest, and no it was not 25/25 it was about the same as a good exhaust and air filter change, noticeable but not by much

    Roller rockers have pen bearings that tend to break and fill your engine with metal making it less dependable and that’s what these engines are known for you just removed its main perk. Keep your factory rockers this is shiny junk

    You'll never see the likes of the 4.0L inline 6 ever again. This is the age of obsolescence. The 4.0 is perhaps the greatest engine of all time regarding longevity and low end torque. The 3.8 is ok if you upgrade the gaskets for the oil pan, valve covers and manifold. Chrysler used inferior gaskets causing the 3.8's to fail on purpose among other things. They knew they could never continue on with the 4.0L. Too much money at stake. While upgrading all the gaskets on the 3.8 makes it a more dependable engine, it will never be anywhere near as good as the bullett proof inline 6 4.0L!

  • @rickybobby7752

    Ok lets see how that 3.8 is in 250,000 miles. Oh wait they won't last past 60k to 80k. I have replaced about 8 of them. Also lets stroke the 4.0 anr compare then. What a crap comparison. Apples and Oranges. Also did you mention where the torque comes in on both engines. Not!

  • @punkrocker10115
    @punkrocker10115 5 лет назад +1

    How is this even a contest? Longevity wise the 3.8 is one of the worst motors ever made. The pentastar series was a horrible designed engine. Timing issues plagued the 3.8 with tensioners often failing right out of the box. Along with lots of overheating and cooling system issues, mostly due to the fact that plastic is used for crucial parts like the water outlets. The 4.0 isn't perfect and has issue but, has farrrrrr more dependability than that 3.8 junk.

    I have an '18 JKU with the 3.6L pentastar V6 and it has power especially if you free up the exhaust and the upper and lower intakes and a throttle body you will be in the +320hp range N/A, and with a wet 75 shot of nitrous you will go up those dunes.
