I own a number of Snub nose revolvers and I test each one with different ammo to see what works best in each one. Most 38spl are designed to shot 158 grain bullets to point of aim.
I have the 856 Defender three inch. Right now I am running Remington HTP for defense loads in it because that is what I could get at the time but as soon as I can get some Corbon, they will be in it. Corbon is what I usually run for defense loads in my revolvers. I know law enforcement uses Winchester Ranger and Gold Dot but Corbon beats them in muzzle velocity and energy and I know what Corbon does on a body since back in the '80s. It was the original +P. If I didn't have Corbon I would use Federal Hydra Shok. The 856 replaced my 85 that was my mom's revolver in my name and it went to my sister when my mom passed. I was going to give it to my sister but she insisted on paying so I got the 856. I carry it in a Andicen IWB/OWB leather thumb break/snap holster off of Amazon. Really nice holster with belt loop on one side and belt clip on the other side.
Thanks rbm6184! I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on that Corbon. I’ve never seen that brand before. That’s nice of you to want to give your sister a gun. We have that in common. I bought my sister a Glock 26. Her first gun and she loves it.

I have the same gun same grips everything I screwed up bought mine at a local gun shop charged way to much 500.00 for mine pissed me off I didn't know better then. Made up for it bought the 605 frm sportsmens for 329.00 much better . Great video thanks
Thanks @SquattingBuck! I can’t wait to try out that American Gunner 38spl box I picked up the other day. Sportsman’s Warehouse is way easier to shop online anyway. Bass Pro’s search filters are horrible.
Definitely grab some Winchester HBWC. You might be surprised. Also Worth trying the Buffalo Bore standard pressure LSWCHP which duplicates the old FBI load. Both of these have made a good showing in media. Any HBWC does a good job but Winchester seems to have just a bit more velocity.
I love it and highly recommend it. It’s my most comfortable holster. I also have one for my 1911. It feels great against my torso and draws easily. Even with my “spare tire”. The only draw back is that I have to remove it to re-holster. But that is because its leather, not hard plastic that stays wide open. Which is the exact reason why it’s so comfortable. I plan on doing a comparison video of all my holsters soon.
I have a Taurus 856 ultralight I bought 2 years ago . I have put several hundred rounds thru with no issues. However I tried using the arms core 158 grainfmj and had issues. I could shoot 1 or 2 rounds and the cylinder would freeze up. Tried it with several different rounds and same results. Used federal punch and Winchester with no issues. Anyone else experience this? It's my edc and I carry in a DeSantis owb holster.
I would say she needs a good cleaning and lube. But if it only did it with the Armscor then it could have been a bad batch of ammo. The crimps around the projectiles could have been loose and slightly protruding into the bore. Or high primers causing friction during rotation. Don’t forget to lube where the extractor slides through the cylinder. Thanks for the comment. I hope you enjoy your ultralight.
Hi John, I provided a link to .38 special holsters in the video description. If you tap/click the link (blue text) you’ll be taken to an Amazon page where you can select a holster specific to your .38 special. Thanks for asking.
Thanks @DC4845Bass. Yeah it looks like you are right. That day it was “Opposite Day”. I must have been taking into account what I typically expect out of my DA performance. From now on I’ll be scoring the differences between DA and SA. Thank again!
Nice grouping with all ammo used. A J frame size revolver is a 5 to 7 yard gun anyway. No one can really justify shooting in self defense beyond 21 feet right?
Thanks. Yes they are are designed for close quarters. That’s very important to remember in a self defense situation so innocent bystanders don’t get hit. But justification beyond 7 yards, in general, I think that depends. If someone runs at me with an axe from 50 yards away, I’m not waiting for them to reach the average self defense engagement range (3-7 yards) if I have something I’m accurate with at 50 yards. That’s just me though.
I own 2 Cardini holsters. Both are leather and smell like it. That sucks you had a bad experience. Maybe once upon a time they didn’t used to be real leather. However as of the time of the video and this posting they sure are. Here is a link to their website page that has a description of the leather holster. I have the 856UL, carry it every day, love it.
It’s hard not to.
I have an 85 which is what the 856 replaced and it's a great little snub as I'm sure the 856 is. I carry Underwood in it
I’m sure the 85 is terrific. We aren’t allowed to buy it here in Commyfornia. I’ll have to try Underwood though. Thanks!

I am quickly learning there are a lot of snub nose revolver fans. I love mine. Considering getting a 605 or S&W 642. Thanks for the comment!
Good to see the wear on that holster. It tells me that you actually used it a lot before recommending it. Nice review, your channel will grow quickly.
Thank you for noticing. All those scuffs are badges of honor. Thanks #196!
I think I might be ordering me a set of those grips, very nice and I carry in a 1791 iwb leather holster very comfortable

That’s highway robbery. But $329 is an excellent price for the 605. It’s usually $349 where I live. Thanks for the comment!
856 is amazing capacity and good price
Hard to beat it price wise.
A super great revolver it’s great I own won
That holster and the grips looks awesome
Thanks. They feel great too.
Thanks for sharing.
Go Navy!
I'm carrying my Taurus 856 at this moment.
Go Navy! Thanks for watching. It’s so comfortable even without a holster, just in my pocket. But a leather holster completes its so well. 👍🇺🇸

Nice groups buddy! Very honest review. Keep coming to visit at Sportsman’s Warehouse and your groups will stay good, stay away from Bass Pro lol

How do you like the Cardini Leather holster? I've been looking at one for my S&W 638 but wasn't sure how comfortable it would be.

Did the grips reduce recoil I love mine but when I shoot It the oem grips grooves dig into my hand
No the OEM grips were comfortable. I just don’t like the feel of rubber and I wanted a classic detective look. Thanks.

I hope you enjoy it. I plan on doing a leather care video for that exact holster soon. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
lol I have the same setup!
