  • This is a distance Learning resource for teachers and students using the Ward's Science Forensic Toxicology kit. Teachers to prep this kit for my students I did the following:
For the powders, label five 2 mL microcentrifuge tubes per team and dispense the powders into them (enough to fill 4 wells with each). I labeled the tubes: E (Ecstacy), O (Oxycodone), A (Aspirin) T (Acetaminophen) & U (unknown). I took the bottles from the Ward's toxicology kit & divvied up the powders into the 5 tubes for each team for a total of 30 tubes (I have 6 lab groups).
For the liquids, I labeled the four 2 mL microcentrifuge tubes per team and labeled them H2O (just put water in), UI (universal indicator), HCl (hydrochloric acid) & Fe (iron (III) nitrate) & then gave each team 1 mL of each.
Teams also need 2 spot plates from the kit, 20 toothpicks for mixing, a universal indicator strip (may want to laminate) & either 4 plastic transfer pipets for transferring the liquids OR a P-200 micropipetter & tips. It will also help to give each team a sheet of white paper on which to lay their spot plates to label them (as I did in the video).
