    I live in North Carolina about an hour away from bear creek arsenal. Never knew they existed until a friend of mine was assembling a. 458 socom for me using a psa build kit and a bear creek upper with a Anderson lower I bought from my favorite gun store . Since then I’ve set up an account and bought a left handed 223, a few .300 blackouts a 6.5 Grendel ( my favorite deer rifle) , 450 bushmaster and .12.7. The 458,450&.50 don’t see much range time because they hurt both physically and financially lol. Thanks for the great videos and I love ballistic info. I kinda geek out on it. On a side note bear creek arsenal is great for the gunsmithing enthusiast. You can tinker with their uppers and not worry about ruining anything expensive. I like changing barrels, buffers , triggers. They are a great company to learn about ar’s . Tinkering to my hearts contentment and not breaking the bank

    Another great video Sir ! Thank you. P.S. I purchased a Basic Bear upper from BCA in 5.56 NATO with a 1 in 9 16" barrel, put a carry handel on it and took it out to the range. No malfunctions with Aguila .223 55 gr FMJ ... Hit a 12" gong at 100 yards, 200 yards and 300 yards all day long. Was impressed enough that I purchased another upper just like it for a rainy day. Think I paid $331. delivered for it. I like all the $1,000 and $2,000 AR15s but I can actually afford these. Please don't ever be afraid to put together your own lowers to you budget minded folks out there. I have put together 5 of them and 3 uppers. corey potter 5.56 is more than enough for a large majority of human targets, it's incredibly cheap and it can shoot a fairly good distance. People don't use 5.56 because they think it's a powerhouse, they use it because it's cheap, light and gets the job done. 5.56 is WAY more versatile than 350 legend. 350 was designed for one job, to get around legalities for hunting. It does that job well. Compared to almost any necked down cartridge for the AR15, it lacks performance. If you want something capable of taking down decent sized animals and still have a semi-versatile rifle, 6.8SPC and 6.5 Grendel will both hit with more power, and are capable of much better distances than 350.

    Great review and great shooting, Buffalo! Probably the best and most honest review of this combination I have seen.
    BCA makes a great product. While I have not adopted the "best thing since sliced bread" attitude that some have about this cartridge (at best, it is a +P version of the 112 year old .351 WSL), nor do I "hate it" (I don't even hate Glocks 😛) , it is certainly an adequate deer cartridge at close/medium range for those wanting to use the AR platform. Anyone thinking deer are bullet resistant to this cartridge is a fool. Particularly in those few states with the "straight wall cartridge" limitation. Nothing bad about that.
    It is more accurate than my old M1907. 3 shots in an inch at 100 yds. 5 in 1.5" Yeah, that's good enough. 3" high at 100 means you can disregard range up to 150-175 yards on deer size game...and that's pretty good for eastern KY forest.
    BCA makes it economical to jump in the game, so why not? Any time you can add a "rifle" to your battery for $200ish, jump on it! The AR platform is being developed into a very versatile rifle, BCA is doing more to advance that than anyone. Buy one rifle and add uppers from BCA for $200-250 each in a wide range of cartridges.

    On the plus side, since this video, we have more factory loaders of this cartridge. I have boxes of it from Browning, Hornady, Winchester, and Federal. Many choices in 350 specific bullets are also available if you reload. Winchester makes all their factory ammo bullets available in component form, LeHigh Defense makes bullets for it in multiple weights, Hornady has a couple bullets as well. There are bullet choices from 68 grains all the way up to the 180 grainer and quite a few in between. I understand the disappointment with the .358 bullet thing, but really, it's not an issue at this point.
    This round fills a nice niche as a hunting cartridge (for those states that require straight wall cartridges) as it provides a good bit more power over a pistol cartridge, but not nearly as harsh to shoot as a 450 Bushmaster or the like. Another plus is that it runs in both bolt action and AR platforms. Some may disagree, but I think this is an excellent CQB cartridge. A lot of thump, not a lot of recoil (fast follow up shots). I built an AR (using the Bear Creek upper) just for that purpose. Put a good reflex sight on top of it and you have a heck of a "mini-thumper" that shoots easy and fast.

      Most of the laws relating to shotgun and pistol calibers only for deer is out of safety concerns.

    You're so lucky... I wish I could just "request" them to send me some stuff. lol You deserve it, brother. Love your personality, and really enjoy your videos. I NEVER miss 'em. Kinda off subject, but... Me, and my buddy set us up a 6 target pistol course today, and timed each other, from the draw. The first 5 targets(ranging from 6"-10" steel plates) started at 7 yards, and gradually worked their way out to about 20 yards. The last target was at 40 yards(39). From the draw, I hit 6/6 in 6.47. His best was a 7.05. When I would hit the 40 yard target on the first shot, it reminded me of you. lol. I won't tell you my "other" times. Some were pretty bad. That 40 yard target gave us fits, a few times. You make long distance pistol shooting look pretty easy.... IT'S NOT!!! We felt pretty good about our shooting, until we would have to make a MAG CHANGE, to eventually hit the 40 yarder. We had some good laughs at each other. LOL Oh, by the way... I was running my Canik TP9 SFx, and he was running his Sigp320xcarry. BOTH, highly recommended pistols, if you haven't shot them.

It seems as if there's more good guns and related products coming out of North Carolina all of the time. Is NC becoming what Connecticut was 100 yrs ago to the American firearms industry? Just a random thought from my random thought process. Glad to see you are still enjoying decent shooting weather down there. Keep on fighting the good fight.

    Buffalo, Truth is the truth and it isn't always a pleasant thing to hear. I would rather hear the drawbacks of a product rather than hearing all the hipe. People identify with what they like and also brand name, I look at the facts and put aside the mantiality of naysayers about cretan products or brand name. Good honest review, I feel like you do as well about the 350 Legend becoming a legend, 10 years from now you might not be able to get factory ammo for it. -Dave

    I actually may buy one since bear Creek is caring it and it’s not a down payment on a Ferrari to get it. I have been interested with the 350 legend, even though I live in Alabama where I do not have laws on what caliber I can use. I have traded in the old 270 and 308 for the 6.8 SPC. It does everything I need and doesn’t destroy meat like the other two, and it’s a lot lighter to carry in the field. To me the 350 legend is pretty much the 357 max, but in a ar.
    Love your videos as always, thanks for always giving the honest opinion I am covering calibers or companies no one else wants to.

      Thanks for the comment and hello in Alabama! Here in KY we don't have straight wall laws but I still like the idea of hunting with the .350 Legend since nearly any shot in the woods I hunt is going to be well within it's range and I like to hunt with the AR15 just because it's so ergonomic. I have the .450 Bushmaster too but the .350 is much more pleasant to shoot and it's lighter to carry.

    • @codythompson8456
      @codythompson8456 4 года назад

      lonny wells the 6.8 is very effective for the game we have here, not sure where your from. So 308 you may need more then I do. But I also have a 6.5 Grendel, and have used it quite a bit as well in years before, with great effect. Me personally have just always loved the 270 caliber, so the 6.8spc fits right in. It’s like a 270 short 😂

      The Winchester ammo for the 350 Legend says it is .357 sized ammo on there boxes. That just makes them legal for deer hunting in Iowa. .357 is the smallest size round you can shoot in straight wall cartridges for deer during the shotgun season. You can use the larger bores like 4 bushmaster or 458 socom or even the 50 beowulf..But now smaller than the .357 round in straight wall cartridges. I just purchased the 350 Legend bear creek arsenal with a 18 inch barrel and side charging handle. Paid $250.91 total, shipping and everything. Paid another $20.45 for a 10 round magazine. So now I will be deer hunting in Iowa for the first time with an AR15 platform...gonna freak out a bunch of my buddies when I show up sporting the AR to deer hunt with...lol...

    my son will be using a 16' 350 legend ar15 I built him over the summer. We aren't restricted to straight walled cartridges in Mississippi but just seems like itll be a good little deer round for a youth. His rifle only weighs 6.4lbs and has very little recoil. He'll be shooting either the 150gn Winchester xp or the 170gn Hornady interlock. Picked up a few boxes of each and which ever one shoots the best is what we will go with. So far all weve ran through it is the 145gn fmj and so far it looks like its going to be a decent shooter getting anywhere from 1.25' - 2' groups at 100yds. Built it with a cmmg barrel and a bunch of spare parts I had laying around. topped off with a 1.5-5x leupold vxiii.

Running on a KE Arms lower, 1-4 LPVO with a dura mag 20. As long as it continues to perform as it did this morning. Then it will be a welcomed addition to the deer woods.

    I was looking at making a 38 Cal wildcat 358 diameter and the case mouth with a 358 diameter and the thickness of the case mouth would make is a reverse taper case The case neck are would be bigger that the rim end so it would not extract I looked at 355 diameter bullets but the only jacket bullets I could were 125 grain or less or copper plated and I didn't think they would stand up to rifle pressure creating copper fouling
    I am sure this is what Winchester found out and hade some new tooling made to reduce 358 35 caliber rifle bullets swaged down to 355 diameter so they could get the taper in the case to be able to make extract relatively easyer
    I am sure the ammo component companies are tooling up to make 355 rifle grade bullets
    Just like what happened with the 10MM & 40Cal S&Ws came to the public

    Bet you can get some screaming velocities using 9mm bullets like the XTP.

    • @edwardlance2379
      @edwardlance2379 3 года назад

      LeHigh Defense makes their solid copper Xtreme Defense bullets in .355" (9mm) in 68 grain, 90 grain, and 118 grain variants. In a 16" barrel, the 350 Legend spits the 90 grainer out at a tad over 3,000 FPS. I haven't loaded or seen the 68 grainer fired over a chronograph, but I bet it'll get near 3400 FPS. That's up into and beyond 5.56 velocities, but with a heavier and much fatter bullet! The downside, of course, is a horrible BC, so that velocity will drop off quick. Realistically, this is a 250-300 yard cartridge.
      I would caution against using just any 9mm bullet. Most are made for pistol pressures and velocities. The 350 is more than just an extra long length 9mm case, it is also running at rifle level pressures (55,000 PSI vs the 9mm's 35,000 PSI). Pistol bullets might not hold together at those velocities and rotational speeds. If they do, they'd make a heck of a splatter on impact if nothing else.

    I know the straight walled laws are the main reason to use 350 Legend. It seems like a good all around cartridge for anyone wanting 30-30 level power from an AR15. I'm sort of waiting to see if more manufacturers start making ammo. A little variety and I'd like to see the 350 Legend take off as a cartridge.

    I don't have an AR-15 rifle but I've wanted one but didn't like the .223 round and didn't want the price of a 450 Bushmaster ammo so he 350 Legend seems to be the caliber I'm interested in despite the untruth's of Winchester advertising. Seems like a great caliber for me although I like 41 magnum in a revolver and 10 mm in a pistol so that might explain a lot.

    So basically a typical 9mm projectile (.355) can be loaded in this casing, yet 9mm seldom goes beyond 135 grain range for handguns. I know it can go as high as 165 grains which would probably be a nice place for the Legend.
