Thanks for the shoutout, and great view of the truck from a hobby store's perspective. Just to clarify a few things -- I was doing the same huge jumps with the Mojave 4S (check out the running/review videos of that), and landing them with perfect absorption. Maybe the Maxx Slash is not intended for those jumps, but I only show what one truck can or cannot do vs. another of the same size and class. I picked the Mojave 4S as the best car of 2023 BECAUSE it redefined what a 1/8 SCT could do in the air -- it reset the bar for short course trucks. Also, the official Traxxas promo video shows the Maxx Slash doing huge 20 ft jumps on dirt and at a skatepark of similar size as I did.
Braking and acceleration are OK for 6S, but again I'm comparing the ESC to other RTR ESCs. Everything is graded on a curve, not on an absolute scale. And I'm quite certain the VXL-6S is down on power to every other RTR ESC (Arrma, Corally, even HPI and Associated) -- I've been testing other ESCs in the truck, and I estimate they're 15-20% more powerful. Do you need 15-20% more power? That's not the question I'm answering, I'm only telling the viewer if the ESC is lower on power and they can decide for themselves whether they care. Also, I drive all my cars without TSM or AVC. I set my EPAs and dual-rates as I like them, but my videos are geared a little more towards experienced hobbyists, so I rarely mention the basics that apply to every car you buy. But, I don't think I once mentioned anything about "rolling over" in corners, so that point is kind of immaterial since it wasn't something I had a problem with.
I do agree the Maxx Slash should have been released as a 4S. A 4S ESC probably would save them $20-40, but they would have to lower the price to $600 or less which would cut into margins. So just my opinion, but I think it was greed that made them release it as a 6S car. That, and the Maxx is a dog power-wise to the Arrma 4S cars, and a 4S Maxx Slash would have shown even worse.
In any case, I enjoyed the video and agree with most of your points. 👍

I’m new to the hobby. My first rig is a Mojave 4s. I recently shared a playground with a Maxx Slash. We bashed around, raced and jumped about 12ft high. I even let him run the Mojave and he couldn’t believe how much better it was at speed stability and air gliding for the price. Both factory setup. He def still enjoys his Maxx Slash, but admitted that if he could return it and get a Mojave(in this case), he would. Price/value point seems like quite the margin between these 2 based on my very small experience. Honestly, if stuff performs within its price point, the money ain’t the issue. But then you find out a cheaper rig does better out of the box. That sorta stings.
Love this kind of talk, though. Your channel just popped up on my feed. Very cool.

The fact that we’re dabbling with hobby grade cars where we still have to provide our own battery, charger, and controller batteries and leaving comments under videos of ppl talking about them shows that you take it just as serious as anyone else. What you’re confusing that for is people overestimating what they should get for its high MSRP. Also, no one ever said it wasn’t fun. They all agree that it’s not good value for its price.

Why people and seasoned rc vets are hating so much I think the price is high and should do as advertised but like I said they should send everyone that bought 1 already the sway bar kits ,aluminum motor mount and shock risers/spacer blocks for the front but like the man said the truck must be setup out the box correctly to really enjoy turn down the steering rates and bump the tsm ,adjust your shock preload correctly that’s what the truck likes ! I appreciate the response video as I was one to criticise you as it sounded to me that it was a Traxxas script! I’ve been playing with rc’s for 40+ years I’m not a fabulous driver, I’m not a racer , I just enjoy playing. Short course trucks are my favourite and I have several , Hobao sct10 I’ve had for years and love, Tekno , Mojave… my Hobao is my favourite because I know it best! Now I run that 2S because that’s how I find it best. My Mojave exb I absolutely
hate on 6S and run it on four. But if a manufacturer puts a vehicle out and states it’s one thing and it turns out that that is incorrect that is massively misleading! Shows minimal respect to its customer base and smacks of profiteering! It’s a very expensive 4s vehicle in my opinion. And to try and improve it they now want to sell additional hop ups on an already expensive car. I’ve watched the promo videos and they do indeed put in some 5+ meter high jumps, was that vehicle modified for that purpose? We’ll never know but, you can’t put out that kind of promotional bumf then tell people oh you cannot jump it like that out of the box or use 6s because it won’t perform. A lot of people will see the video and possibly buy the truck and be immensely disappointed and despondent, chuck it In the cupboard never to see the light of day again! And potentially never continue with the hobby! Manufactures have a responsibility to help the hobby because people like you make your living through it. If they’re putting out things that people can’t enjoy because the things they buy won’t do what they see in promotion, well I think it’s a sad day for our hobby.
I enjoy your content, I find it both entertaining, informative and honest. And I also think that it is good to have criticism and response because that is what can potentially encourage people into the hobby. Thank you again for the be time and effort you put into your content.

Great review ! Love the honesty ! And I immediately adjusted my steering rate and sensitivity HUGE difference and small 6s pack or 4s handles so much better because of the balance ! You’re spot on ! I do agree should be a 4s truck but with the rite pack or packs (small and light enough ) the chassis and drivetrain can handle the power but you do lose some control ability . I agree drop the price or add/include the aluminum motor mount and sway bars if they keep it at this price point and send out the sway bars and motor mount to people that have already bought it ! Great review ! I can’t saw it enough your 100 correct on every word you spoke 💪

I agree with some of your arguments and disagree with others. For me the only issue with this car is the suspension that is totally trash.
4S or 6S is not only a Lipo battery thing nor a marketing thing. 6S determines the robustness of powertrain components. If you real car is 650HP it not only tell you the engine is 650HP-capable but also that the chassis, Gearbox, fuel system is strong enough to handle the power.
The handling of a car has very little to do with power. If it is designed poorly it will handle poorly whether on 4S or 6S, granted the effect will be more pronounced on 6S.
The handling has a lot to do with suspension tuning (first), chassis rigidity/geometry (second) and center of gravity indeed (third). Third because you can offset the roll and body sag by tuning your suspension.
I repeat what I said earlier. If you fix and tune the suspension the car is great.

I have a little of everything 2wd rustler to xmaxx more than I can drive if I drive the car on 6s you drive 1/4-1/2 throttle to whole time it’s my favorite car for racing that I have I’m not a fan of the under steer but if you the only good thing about 6s is saving a endo from not accelerating up the Jump on the track. I maxed out my tension before ever driving so my tires didn’t rub on the body but I will tune for that accordingly after this video thank you.

I'D like to see them complement this one with a 4s version. I was initially disappointed it was released as a 6s and not a 4s mainly because the 4s system in the Maxx is the smoothest driving vechile on the market. Everything is in complete cohesion with one another. Once I bought this however I changed my mind. Traxxas gives you the best of both worlds by releasing this as a 6s. If you want all out speed, right out of the box this is the fastest short course on the market and one of the fastest vechiles on the market. If you are looking for a more well rounded driving experience, just through a 4s pack in there and the vechile drives nearly as smoothly as the Maxx. In addition, this is faster on 4s than most other 6s vechiles out of the box. Mine was hitting 45 mph on 4s with no changes to the gearing and 60 mph on 6s.

From what I have found, if you bind your DX5C Spektrum radio and receiver to this truck, it really improves the throttle control which is what I have been desperately seeking. So much so that I ended up just buying the 6s Mojave which I know has excellent theottle control given the other 6s Arrmas that I have. I could not fit the SR6110at, higher end receiver in there so unfortunately I had to put a basic Speltrum receiver in, which does not have the AVC but I think the version that currently comes in the Kraton exb, which is a step down from the Sr6110at version which Arrma offered in the Talion exb, but it does still have AVC so I am gonna see how that works. Even with a non-avc Spektrum receiver, this stilɔ handles better than with the stock Traxxas TQI receiver. I think the avc will work in this. The range is 10 times better than the TQI remote and receiver, which is odd because both are 2.4 GHZ I believe. I have range issues with every Traxxas TQI system though which is one reason I would absolutely not buy a Traxxas built boat. In short, if the boat travels more than 100 feet away from you, you will either have to take a swim to go fetch it, or completely lose the boat. No way! The extra functionality that the Dx5c offers alone is exactly what this Maxx/Slash needs. If you have this Remote and have a Spektrum teceiver, that is all you need to make this truck awesome without having to monkey with the spur gear. Keeping the stock 50/25 works great with this Spektrum DX5C Remote/Receiver combination.

I have been saying the identical thing about wishing they had used the 4S VXL system instead of the 6s. Most people have not agreed. Everyone wants more power not less. For me, I just want something thar drives well and that offers good throttle control. In
I called Traxxas directly to get their opinion about me possibly installing the 4s system in it and told them about my concerns about the 6s system in this vechile and basically just how well the Maxx drives with the 4s system and how I would like to duplicate that experience in the Maxx/Slash. I am talking strictly from the standpoint of throttle control and overall smoothness throughout the power band. Not handling or anything like that. He basically said it has not been done but that he thought the truck might be too heavy for the 4s system. I actually think they weigh nearly the same though. Maybe a one pound difference. Their 4s system in the Maxx is the smoothest system on the market. Closest to a sensored system that I have driven. Offers tremendous control at all speeds and drives fantastic. That said, I agree, 4s is excellent on this vechile. It gives it much better throttle control and is still plenty fast, even completely stock. I hit 45 mph and I believe it had more in it. On 6s it is scary fast. No idea what Razor RC saying this lacks the power and not on the same level as either Mojave. Just not the case. I have owned both Mojave's and currently am split right down the middle with Arrma and Traxxas vechiles. This has become my favorite vechile and has grown on me considerably. I have been driving it everyday, literally and have learned how to control it so it handles excellent, even on 6s. It just takes some getting used to because if you have been driving Truggies and trucks yes, it is going to handle differently. At this point I am comfortable enough to take it to a narrow street and do speed runs on 6s wothout crashing or flipping and the pulling power that this thing has is unlike anything I have ever driven. And I have driven alot of vechiles. It keeps pulling like a real muscle car and is downright scary fast. I hit 60 mph on my very first run in limited space completely stock. This will destroy both Mojave's in terms of top speed and a drag race. Right out of the box you are talking about a good 8-10 miles per hour faster than both of them. Honestly, the only vechiles that I can compare on speed with would be some of the 6s Team Corally vechiles like the Kagama which basically use a Hobbywing Mac 6 esc and motor. Some of these Reviewers, I scatch my head about because I wonder if they are driving the same vechile I am driving. Also, Traxxas just released the clear body for this which I just received yesterday. Will be looking to make this scale and sleak!

You can't please everyone all the time. I did a video the day before they were public released and because I liked it I was also accused of being sponsored. AFAIK only one person is sponsored by them. I just really like the truck. I went ahead and ordered a Mojave just to race them offroad. I know the Mojave is supposed to be great so I wanna put them head to head.

I agree with a lot of what you say but you can't fault people for running it 6s when that's exactly what it's being advertised as. This Maxx Slash should be compared to the UDR and the 6s Mojave because they are all in the same 6s class and cost close enough to be direct competitors. Honestly... this release doesn't make much sense especially for this price when the UDR is only $50 more and the 6s Mojave is $70 LESS.... I believe both of those are way better value for the money. I find it interesting that NONE of the tubers are pointing this out in their reviews! I agree the "Maxx" Slash should only be 4s..... just not for the reasons you pointed out....... 🤓

I’m running 6s. Once you get throttle control this thing rips. Also nobody sets up the suspension right. Get part 10234 it’s the rear shock extension and add it to the front. It levels out the truck and makes it way more stable, handles, jumps, lands way better. Gets rid of the rake and the rear inner wheel dog legging. Is also way faster around course. I’m having a ton of fun with it now. I had to adjust a few things and it takes some time to get a feel for it. I also have the Mojave 6s and the Maxx slash is more fun now that I have a few weeks on it and am used to it.
People having thermal or intermittent power issues. Check your jumper or the ESC wiring. Somehow mine got cut and was causing issues. I cut the ends and soldered on my own so I can run just one pack and had been great.
I’m one of the ones that kinda bashed in this initially. But people really need to get these and run them a bit to have any type of valuable input. The vet guy that does the reviews kinda nitpicks everything, regardless of the vehicle.

Last thing, I think people ought to buy this vechile. Definitely worth it. Here is the thing, this vechile is a powerhouse. On 4s, using the stock pinion, it is nearly as fast as a 6s Mojave.
6s it is gonna blow the doors of it. Literally. Again, it has become my favorite vechile, above the new 6s Big Rock and Kraton exb which are awesome as well. This is a unique vechile that does take some getting used to but once you do, it is excellent. I have found that turning the throttle sensitivity up actually does a good job smoothing things out for what it is worth on 6s.

Ok.. well.. lol.. its a great informational video.. no doubt.. but no matter how you spin it.. this was released as a 6s vehicle..but yeah.. everything is easier to handle with less power.. we all know that.... i mean of course if you hit a jump wrong its not gonna jump right etc.. and i dont think @razorrc or @L2theW are lazy reviewers.. i just think theyre giving an out of the box.. this is how it is review. Youre saying what you can do to make it better.. sway bars ..tuning adjustments.. transmitter settings.. we 100% need that info as well.. and like you said.. sell it as 4s and lower the price.. i think that would of made for a much better release and the consumers would be much happier.. but hey we re all entitled to our opinions.. and some of us are very passionate about what our money goes to and what is expected in return.. so without getting to far into it theres some i agree with here and a lot that i dont.. but reguardless great video.😎🤘🏼

Around 21:00 with regard to laziness of reviewers, I don't think many of them bothered to even check the spring collars after taking it out of the box. Many of these are showing up with the shock collars backed off so the springs are loose at full droop but more than that they are inconsistent. One collar may be backed way off on one side and not on the other. It's like they forgot how to do basic checks and do a baseline setup and decided to say "F-it, I'm ripping it out of the box, tossing a 6S pack in, and bashing it until it fails." These reviewers are doing themselves and the products they're reviewing a disservice by being so lazy due to attempting to be the first to provide content on a new product. I believe a lot of the poor reviews and comments are directly related to this. Anyone that's been in the hobby long enough knows that things need to be tweaked and tuned to perform at their best. These RTR kits are mass produced and not precisely set up at the factory, so of course when you don't bother to do a basic check and setup you're going to have a bad experience.
The other problem I'm seeing is with the "fanboy" viewers. A lot of folks are "ARRMA OR DIE" and for a while the Mojave 6S and 4S were the main players in the large-scale SCT category and they ended up with a lot of happy owners. Then Traxxas comes out with the Maxx Slash and the Arrma trolls are coming out and ripping on the Maxx Slash in the comments for no other reason than it's competition for the Mojave. They don't own a Maxx Slash and have no intention of buying one but they think they're in a position to comment on how good or bad it is. Or they simply call it junk because it's a Traxxas. Strange how this junk is so tough and takes a lot to actually break one.
FWIW, I have both Traxxas and Horizon (Losi) products. Horizon's constant inventory/supply chain issues have resulted in months-long waits for replacement parts (A replacement BR2 F100 body took 4 MONTHS to receive. A replacement bumper mount is backordered until MAY. Horizon is making my decision to give Traxxas my money very easy lately). When it comes to the products themselves I don't really have any preference either way, they all have their purposes and pros/cons. I bought a Maxx Slash for a couple of reasons. One, the friend I go to our RC park with has a Mojave 4S and I wanted something different. Two, I thought about the Mojave 6S but it's getting long in the tooth and I didn't want to find myself in a similar parts availability problem again as Horizon seems to be unable to get their inventory under control.
The Maxx Slash isn't cheap and isn't perfect, but I believe it will get there. That's part of the fun, modifying and tuning to make it what you want. The platform is solid and already has a number of upgrades that can be installed due to sharing a number of Maxx parts. For whatever reason this truck has generated a lot of conflict and controversy, I believe a lot of that is less about the product and more about the people doing the reviews combined with people that will bash the "other brand" for no other reason than it's not "their brand." That's who we've become as a society and a lot of these YT channels have a lot of rabid fans...or rabid critics that will find anything to complain about.

The reason people asked if this was scripted was because your opinion, which you’re entitled to, differed from more than just a few RUclipsrs! Not to mention the people watching these videos with their own 2 eyes! Where on the box does it say drive on 4s? I do see a big 70+ mph printed on it which is clearly deceiving! And before you ask yes I’ve driven one. I’m possibly the worst track driver in the world but my friend who is the biggest Slash 2wd fan on the planet bought it the day it came out and all he’s done is complain that he has to spend more money just to get this truck halfway drivable! When you have a platform that influences other’s decisions and people count on your ability to tell them if this truck does what it’s supposed to AS ADVERTISED and it clearly doesn’t that’s where you get negative feedback! And frankly Razor RC puts all his trucks through the same tests! So how can a 4s Mojave that costs $200 less than the Maxx Slash do everything it was made to do out of the box and more possibly lose to a slapped together gimmick that’s way overpriced? Whether you say it should be driven on 4s or not it’s still a 6s truck because Traxxas is selling it as a 6s truck at a 6s price! People don’t like to be deceived by big brands that don’t care about anything other than their bottom line! When it looks like you’re backing them up, is there really a surprise you’re getting negative feedback?

Just to follow up, I deleted my previous post discussing my having replaced the 6s vxl system with the Maxx's 4s vxl system. I have since put back in the 6s system. Basically, there was no real need to do that given that it is so similar to just running 4s on the 6s system with 25/46 gearing. Keeping the 6s system in is the way to go if you periodically get the itch for 60 mph+ speeds which are not really easily achieved with the 4s system. It did drive nice and smooth but while the same 25/46 gearing in the 4s system acheived 52 mph, I kept running into the flashing green light on the esc despite my throttle trims being set to zero. Basically, something was not working properly which makes sense given this was designed for the 6s vxl system not the 4s system. At the end of the day, this is an awesome vechile. It is not only the fastest out of the box 6s short course vechile but also currently one of the fastest vechiles you can currently buy period. That 2000 KV motor is a monster. Having compared it to the 6s Spektrum motor, it is considerably larger which is probably why it blows the doors off not only the 4s and 6s Mojaves but pretty much every 6s Arrma minus the Typhoon. Stock gearing in the Felony, I am taking the Maxx/ Slash. Traxxas gives you the option of either explosive speed on 6s or all around driving on 4s. Not every RC gives you that flexibilty. Not to mention changing the Spur and pinion gear only takes maybe 10 minutes total, identical process to the Maxx.

As with everything else it'll settle down and people will go back to their respective corners. I'm sure ill buy it eventually. I just hope that swaybar kit does inprove things a little bit.
