Nice follow up. Good to see you took the time to drive the R more than once, and made the changes to make it an even better model. Thanks for sharing the upgrade tips as well.
Thanks for the follow-up. I haven’t been able to drive mine yet, but I think I’m going to go ahead and upgrade the suspension. Would you happen to have a part number for the springs?
Did you go with the GTR 7461 Long shocks or 7462 xx-long shocks? With the VGRacing springs, the GTR Spring option they have online? Stick with 30 weight shock oil or higher? thank you!
I am very used to the Maxx smooth motor and esc Witt no cogging and the ability to drive at slower speeds without stuttering stopping all the time. I found that if you use 2s it drives much smoother. Slower by 15-20 mph in terms of top speed but much more pleasant in regular driving condiditions. Does the 4s esc smooth it out any? Ultimately I am going to have to put a Hobbywing Max 8 in it because I cannot tolerate all that cogging.
@ParkflyersRC Thanks for the response! I have found it to be very smooth on 2s but on 3s with the stock pinion and system it almost feels a bit overgeared because it does alot of surging and stutter stop and goes when operating at walking speeds. At high speeds it is fine. Is there a way to fix that? Or does it require a smaller pinion such as you did? The only issue is I still have the stock 3s VXL esc/motor in it, whereas you put in the MAXX's 4s system in it. I assume you had to replace and soder new plugs in order to get that 4s system to be compatible with the 3s motor. I would love to put MAXX's 4s motor and esc in but it does not look like there would be enough room without relocating the Receiver box at a bare minimum. Would you also have to replace all of the gears to make it capable of handling 4s power? I wish Traxxas made this a 4s vechile but this is still very good 👍
@ParkflyersRC Have you seen any additional speed using the 4s esc? No doubt it is plenty fast completely stock. A 3s system pushing 50 mph is really impressive.
@ParkflyersRC I'd like to see about ordering from you that light set you reccomended. Excellent recomendation and appreciate all of the knowledge you share. Very helpful!
Two PowerHobby fans on the motor and one on the esc keep the Temps between 80 and 90 degrees no matter how hard I push it. That said, replacing the 3s with the 4s is an excellent idea. You get some added power without losing all of the Traxxas features from the Link module and TSM. If you replace with Hobbywing you are gonna lose all of that and it could result in the vechile being tougher to control. What are your thoughts?
How did you get the 4s esc to fit the 3s motor wires? I thought the wires were different. I put fans on the esc and motor and the Temps have nor even hit 100 degrees and this is in 85 degree wearher.
Picked up this yesterday and put 4 batteries through it in 25 degree dry, icy, existing snow conditions. It is what it is. I knew going in what I was in for. It's fun, but shouldn't be someone's primary RC basher. It looks really good. I'll have to do the cooling mods asap. Driving it at night with the stock lighting is awesome. My OG 1gen E-REVO is certainly more fun in every way, but the pure speed can get you in trouble and having you kissing curbs and cartwheeling too often. So, if you already have an R/C collection and want a good looking truck that is pretty fun, go for it, otherwise drop $500 hundy+ on a true basher or just get a slash ultimate... or drop $100k on a real Raptor.

Unfortunately at my local hobby shop they are not selling well yet...the guys that work there seem to think it's the price...no doubt it's a tough truck 👍👍
The tires are HARDER? Welp, that does it for me. The s1 tires are perfect on my ultimate, quite dislike the stock tire. Also on durability, it’s mainly because the truck is underpowered. The 540XL 2400kv should’ve been in this along with the center diff. All their 4x4s should have that treatment honestly. The BL 2s trucks can have the slippers and the 2wds can have the 3500kv but the 4x4 3s trucks really need the XHD kit, 540xl and 6780 center diff (I’d also settle for 6780A even though you basically need to immediately upgrade the cup to 6781). My slash ultimate is fun but I can tell the slipper just bleeds way too much power even being tightened.
100% agree with this. This car feels like Traxxas either didn't have the budget to properly design/equip this car or they just yeeted it the development of it, made it on paper, didn't even test it and went to production, which completely kills traxxas'dogma of "rcs for everyone", because this RC would be a big disappointment for any kid or new/mid user that gets it out of the box. I bought it because I freaking love the looks of it, but it doesn't make any sense, it is beefed up to be a basher with the extreme hd kit, magnum compound for the chassis and 48mph stock, yet the most expensive and fragile thing of this car is the body, MORE EXPENSIVE Than a XRT or Xmaxx body, what is it then, Traxxas? Is this a shelf queen or basher? I cringe when I scratch this body. It is named Pro Scale yet it doesn't come with premium shocks nor proper light kits. My rustler 4x4 vxl overheats every 10 minutes with spring/autumn weather, imagine a bigger, heavier car with bigger heavier tires and same electronics and gear ratio, the fun stops after 4 minutes. It is 600€!!! In Spain, yet it doesn't come with a silly fan on the Esc. I had to buy a 11t pinion and take out the 13t one it has, install a fan on the esc and at least a heatsink on the motor to be able to enjoy this car for more than 5mins in a 10º weather (50 fahrenheit)...
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the fact the slipper clutch goes to shit easily mine quit on me the first run and I also dealt with a ton of shut downs from heat even being nice to it I tightened the slipper and it’s still running now but I try not to jump it or be mean to it till I get a new slipper or a slipper delete aside from that my truck is super fun to jump around and have fun but I’d recommend a better slipper clutch to anyone who’s thinking about buying one
Hi. Slipper pads can be upgraded to aluminum for little money. You need to check slipper every so often. Lock slipper and use aluminum pads and you will be ok.
You’re too kind with this model. TRAXXAS disappointed a lot with the Raptor R. At least you showed the flaws but seriously this too much, this car is under designed: > the body is very noisy and doesn’t hold in place > the shocks cannot handle the rythme and even less jumping, the car is too big and heavy for them > the electronic combo is CATASTROPHIC. Same story, cannot handle the rythme and the weight of the car, BIG BIG overheat from the whole combo ESC/Motor > the price ! Having this result for this price range for a 1/10 scale is again catastrophic. You showed the solutions but what will be the final price after that ? 1000$ ? That’s totally ridiculous. This type of RC product is the worst case possible for a beginner who will be totally disgusted and wanna quit the hobby. Except if he is rich but in that case why buying this model with a crazy upgrades cost instead of directly a real good RTR around 1000$ ? And the worst part of this story……at the same time, LOSI also dropped on the market a scale 1/10th pro truck, the BajaRey2.0 who is on another planet in terms of look, realism, design, chassis, suspensions, electronics… Everything… FOR THE SAME PRICE. !!!!!!!!🤦♂️ A total fail. Come on TRAXXAS, how can you guys doing this in 2023 ?!? This is not serious, and not respectful for the customer. By the way I hope they will do something for the Raptor R buyers who contact them concerning these issues.
Wrong absolutely wrong about everything I bet you don't even have one. I've had it since release never shut down once and I do mostly speed runs and I live in a warm area.
Complete overpriced garbage. 500 plus price tag and then 100 plus to get it to last a full pack. I’ll take the Arrma Mojave 4S any day over this. Better looking better electronics. My Traxxas models are limited to nitro except for the Maxx. Anything else is Arrma or Associated although associated isn’t that great anymore either.
@@cruzinthruspacethink so? The electronics are better than Traxxas. Hands down. Parts support no. The kraton handles better than my Maxx. Plus the price point has Traxxas beat.

I didn’t notice any cogging on 3s. Cogging is a result of esc overworking. I used 14 pinion with raptor on VXL 4s. Smooth as butter.

Your welcome
Great advice on the upgrades, thanks!
Do you know if 150 long chasis can be mounted on my old short Slash so i dont have to buy whole new truck?
Is the 4s esc just direct plug into the stock motor from the 3s system
Because I put the additional pinion gear in mine and I can’t even get 1/4 of the way thru a 3s pack it’s so annoying
You need to change the plugs.
@@ParkflyersRC thank you for the reply woudl you be willing to post a video on how to install the 4s system on the raptor ??:)

Try 4s, i saw someone using 6s and he was planning on going 8s but thats crazy tho
I immediately dumped the velenion for a castle system, castle 1410 3800kv and sidewinder 10. It is so much better

I do not like how loud the body is and how easy it can come off. Have you found a fix for any of this?
You can add traditional body posts. More secure and you can raise body better.
I got me one last month the one it came out in August 4th I was the first one with it
Is traxxas doing anything about the thermal shutdown problem?😳
No, because this only happens in very hot weather
I have a cooling fan and I have never over heated since I got the fan
