  • Thus is a short video on why or why not to buy one. There's not as much as I wanted about it but. It's a good short discretion of the eco from an owner.

    I got a new 2017. Blowed 2 EGR coolers the last one locked the motor up had it fixed ar dealer the mast more up than than they fixed. Wouldn't fix it had to my self. Had to put 5 sets of beaks on it in 136000. Miles. Only thing I haded about it. Traded it of before motor blowed up.

    I also recommend the block heater. Keeps oil & coolant at 100-120degrees F.

    Was a dumb idea to use friction to hold cam gear I agree. Splines or at least a keyway would have been the obvious choice. My buddy has big Horn & I have Laramie both trucks are 2017 models. Don't know if this had an effect on whether or not you get Regen screens. What year / model is your truck?

      David B mine is a 2014 outdoorsman slt. It should have message. But I did purchase this truck used. And like I sed I know it's done one. There's a distinct smell. My Co truck is going through one as we speak. Nasty and extremely hot. Especially when you have to get in passanger door. That's where they mounted every thing in a nice package under the steps.

      PD D you're welcome, it's just a small snippets of what to expect. Especially if you never had a diesel engine. They are a different animal.

    Not so far. I've had it sense October and have put over 4,000 miles on it. I have used fuel treatment in it to help injection, clean out DPF. But I think the key thing with the clean diesel engine is run time. I run a clean diesel for work it runs 10 hours a day. So system stays hot and DPF will regenerate easily. And as for my Eco. It is plugged in anytime below 30° and warmed up for at least 10 min. And driven 93 miles round trip at 70 mph. And I never let it go over 3,000 rpm on acceleration. It dose suck that so many have had injection issues. Did they ever tell you what happened. Or did FCA keep it hush hush.? I mean they replaced the parts. But why did they fail, pressure issue, mechanical defects, you know what I mean?

    That's probably why most macanics don't like me. I've ether had the issues before, looked into them prior or ask them all kinds of questions. I look at it this way. It's my car I payed a good amount of money for it and keeping it a secret and hope I go a way won't work well. At least not for them. Example my wife has a 14 Captiva we purchased in 15. And not from a Chevrolet dealer. (I will never do that again ). But they try to ether do things that are Unneeded or not do what there supposed to. So when they see me or my wife coming there's an sigh from any one of the service writers. I laugh a little inside every time.

    Diesels before the exhaust treatment & egr I would let idle before driving. However, this is not a good idea for the new diesels. The carbon buildup in the egr & dpf is greatest during cold idle. So don't idle more then 30sec to a min. Just start your drive while keeping the engine below 3500 rpm. This will warm the exhaust faster, avoiding regens & carbon build up in the egr. Both are very bad for the engines life reliability & fuel economy.

      David B I only let the truck idle 10 min. And drive no less then 20 min at the shortest. Most of my drive time is 50 min to an hour at 2000 rpm. I very aware of long idling time and issues with dpf, regeneration cycling. I run a 2017 international for work. And that's why I urge plug the truck in. At anything below 32° at 10 min from a cold start and idled up to 1200 rpm the truck will be at 100°. Also the SCRDS was never designed for short running it made for heavy duty driving. Then adapted to smaller light duty trucks. That's why I say if you don't do long runs stick with gas V6 or Hemi.

      David B also I can't just start truck let run for a minute or 2 then keep it below. I live off of a 2 lane highway. And let's be honest. I'll get run the fk over.

    • @davidb9987
      @davidb9987 6 лет назад

      True. Your long drives will clear the dpf. But the egr will still be an issue. If you have a block heater you can get on the throttle right out the drive. My buddy & I both live in the same town & have the same year Eco diesel. We decided to test what would work better. He did 10min warm ups & I did start & goes. He had regens every 1200 miles & even had a sensor in the exhaust fail in first 2 weeks lol. I have not had a Regen yet or any problems. For those who don't know. All Eco-diesel have the block heater already installed. You just need to buy & hook up the cord. I use mine alot. 50degrees or colder I just plug it in.

      David B well being I've had the truck sense October. I have put 6,900 miles on it and have had only 1 regeneration that I know of. There not like the Co truck. That one I know when it's doing it exhaust temperature light comes on. The only way I know the ram did it was the smell and the metal popping. And I am planning on going through the EGR when I change the oil. But so far it all seems on par. DEF is lasting an oil change cycle. No disappearing or oily coolent. And no excessive pressure or higher operating temperature. So let's see.

      I also run fuel treatment year round. Power service white bottle in winter & grey bottle in summer. I'm hoping this will keep the dreaded cam gear slipping problem from ever happening. My thought is that by keeping the injection pump better lubricated through it's life might lessen the stress on that cam sprocket. Every Regen my buddy had gave him a digital warning. It said dpf 80% full keep driving safely at highway speeds till clean. This is approx what it said. Not exact. He timed the process. Took 14 min of driving at 55mph from start to finish.

    Why would you even post this video

  • @lowrider9367
    @lowrider9367 5 лет назад

    Damn! 93 miles a day & only changing oil twice a year!!! Not a good idea. I don't care what the manual says. He who wrote that manual cares more about you buying a new vehicle than keeping your old truck on the road. With all the regents & soot introduced into the motor, long oil changes only guarantee your motor to fail early. Good luck...

      Oh no I change it 3 to 4 times a year. This was when I first got the truck and hadn't even really drove it full time. Now I drive it all the time. And for a month and a half my Co. Had me driving 173 miles round trip.
