I'm just reading the NYT article about you because I had to know who this person was that has this treasure trove of Letterman. Thanks Don for all you do to keep his legacy alive!
Your efforts are much appreciated. I greatly enjoyed reliving and or seeing for the first time these Steve Martin appearances, all lined up. Some of them were simply the funniest dam things on TV.
There are few who have a long enough run on TV to be able to put together 'best of' tapes of major celebrities... let alone multi-part compilations. So great for both host and guest. Just like watching old '50s black-n-white shows for us now... future generations will look back at these collections. It takes series like these to grasp the bond between star and audience.
@@dongiller Wow, even better, that's great!! Can't wait! I'm a huge SCTV fan and, as a Canadian, it's one of my go-to shows if I'm ever asked for a great Canadian show :) Huge Letterman fan too though, and your channel is definitely a treasure trove!
You gotta love Steve Martin. His standup was like 50 years ago. His best movies are almost as old. But the guy just showing up on tv, as himself, is his most entertaining act. The guy is just naturally geniusly funny.
This is probably the first time the park sketch has appeared on the internet!! Also, I’ve been looking for the stunned shocked and surprised footage for YEARS!!
There's a 2014 appearance by Paul Rudd where he talks about an Irish bachelor party he went on. Seems to have disappeared from the web since Corden took over from Letterman. If you ever come across it, Don, would be amazing to see it again!
Looking for a specific bit. The one in which Steve Martin tells of how he first met Martin Short on the set of Three Amigos. Martin relaying how Short, in the voice of Katherine Hepburn, said: “Where’s my tricycle?” I remember seeing that and laughing so hard. I think it’s from the late 2000s or early 2010s. Anyone remember where?
Cool. Now, what must be recognized is How many times has a late-night show guy say "Ladies and Gentleman?" I suspect Dave. Anyone want to give Guiness a call?
1:25:23 When David says, “Steve and Edie” I immediately thought of another famous singing duo Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gormé (‘50s,’60s) Only ppl of a certain age will remember .. worth checking them out on RUclips en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_and_Eydie
Few wanted to be comedians when he started out, so very little competition. Yuppies were in. Pop was Elvis Costello, so it was a funny time. Of course, this is the U.S. Show them ‘The Young Ones’. They won’t laugh even now. They might copy it. The funniest joke was the moon landing but Steve wasn’t in that one. Well he was, but had a non-speaking part.
I can only Hoover with my left hand because I hurt myself restraining a dangerous prisoner on my landing. This comedy is alright in the background, as I rest on the stairs, on this dreary November afternoon. Jerk - was this his pinnacle? Roxanne? Planes? L.A? Detective? My sister’s ex lived him in the 90s but he was an Arsenal fan and a shipping lawyer!
Thanks for posting all the Letterman content, Don. You're a gem and we all appreciate it so much!!!

I love how all the musical performances are here too! These comps are so great! 😍

Really great compilation Don, and I'm excited for the Martin Short compilation coming up that I saw mentioned on your Twitter!
It’ll be Martin Short and all other SCTV cast members on both Dave and, where available, Johnny.

It was a long, great ride
Steve is alive and well
That wee look back over the shoulder Steve does at the Gay Holiday skit had me chuckling
I like how the older Steve kind of channels Rickles.

You mean Colbert, not Corden. I’ll check out Rudd’s June 19, 2014, appearance on Dave when I get the chance.
1:50:46 If there is a better full blown, hard core theme song, I'd like to hear it.
nice ending :)
Do you know who Dave was referring to in the Carson story?

Easiest way to find out is to watch the videos. It’s in there.
@@dongiller found it. It’s from around 2007/8 from the appearance promoting Born Standing Up. Only upload on RUclips of that! Well done
Excellent!

I wait for them to sing Black hole Sun.
every time these videos pop up I think the person died.
He reminds me of Jack Benny.
Typical martin! Never know what he will do and or bring to entertain! The leg bracelet was a kick! Miss dave😀
😂❤
01:26:00 such a sweet, lonely song.
I've had the biggest fan boy crush on Edie Brickell for years. She seems Soo sweet.

@@dongiller The thing is, when I post usable links, it gets shadow banned. You apparently have more power in the industry :)

@@dongiller Well I begged them to let me use yours but those weasels told me it was already taken.
my condolences I love King Tut but Bill Murray did the best Peter Pan
His humor must be generational 🙄
More like timeless.
he was zanyin the 70’s and it slowly turnes to this, mildly amusing

The shows almost hold my attention but I need abandoned hospitals and mansions playing at the same time.
