Watching Jake Hess’s face during this song just broke my heart. I know he and Hovie were great friends and as far as I can tell, he knew that his friend was dying of cancer when he sang this song. Now they are both Home.

Hovie was quite ill with lymphoma and throat cancer when this was filmed, and died just a few months after. Its a sweet moment in Homecoming history, Jake seeing his old friend, a dear friend he knew for nearly 55 years sing this as well as he did despite serious health issues, Jake knew what it felt like.
