All of us miss it so much too! But you have to remember that it was only supposed to run for about 2-3 years for the millennial celebration, and it ran for 20 more years beyond that!
Sadly they had to because the company that was sponsoring it stopped their sponsorship with disney and the show. Idk why they did, but without that sponsorship they couldn't continue :(
This was the golden age of WDW! I still like WDW now but there was nothing like this era. Huge growth but still felt magical in the simplest of ways. I hold onto my memories from the late 90's into the early 2000's.
I actually didn't realize how magical this show was until recently when I just sat down and listened to the soundtrack. The fact that it links closely to Magic Kingdom but has it's own style is very clever. I guess that's why it lasted for so long.
I think its because the show designers and imagineers used to create stuff that appealed to the inner child within ADULTS, and now they just try to create stuff for children.
7:06 this will always be my favorite part of this whole song just the way it makes you feel and how strong that beat is, I’ll continue to listen to this throughout my life wishing I could see it again.
In my mind, I can still hear the fireworks launching in the silence just before the finale. What a wonderful musical score. We saw this show so many times while annual passholders. I got teary-eyed again today while listening. Thank you.
As someone who only ever got to visit Disneyland Paris as a child, I'll never forget my first time in Disney World - June 2015. I was so overwhelmed by the size and attractions offered in Disney World. We watched IllumiNations at least 2 nights of that trip, and the music from this show takes me back to the magic I felt on that first WDW trip. I'm extremely lucky to have visited Disneyland Paris several times as a child, but any Disney fan's first time in Disney World is something special, and listening to this is so nostalgic
Did you ever gett to see the Main Street Electrical Parade when it was in Paris? Fun fact: 95% of those floats were built in Florida, Dwarf Mine & Pleasure Island being the exception. now you might be saying :I thought the Swans came from Tokyo Disneyland" They *DID, BUT* they were *BUILT* in *FLORIDA* (Disney World built the majority of Tokyo's parade floats for a while)
Every time I drive out of the parks, especially after a day at Epcot, I put this on and reminisce every time I was there to witness this. I still believe this show can touch everyone’s hearts instead of playing the music from Disney movies and adding a water show. Illuminations has way more cultural diversity deep embedded in its music and its story and that is true.
I was at the final showing of illuminations and after it was over and "we'll go on" played one last time and I was content. I was ready for something new for as much as I loved it. But after seeing Epcot Forever (I know it's only temporary and maybe harmonious will be better) and with the passage of time I can't help but wish it was still here. I appreciate it way more now than I ever did when it was running. God I miss it.
I heard that Harmonious was good but there were those who had mixed feelings about it. I guess when the rest of the overhaul renovations of Epcot is complete, maybe it will all start to make more sense and settle in.
I feel the exact same way, I remember always going to eat at a restaurant close to the start of fireworks because then you can walk through the park with no one in it, and it's so much fun... but I wish I had seen Illuminations one last time...
2:56 is a completely genius piece of writing - one of my composer buddies pointed it out and I've always loved to come back to it and listen. You can count the "bars" (not sure if they're notated like that) as they get shorter: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (a total of 36 beats) then BLAM! It's a countdown, and it has the effect of making it feel like more and more energy is being injected into the music. It's not blatantly obvious because of the clever devices employed alongside it, triplets and instrumentation changes etc. Just wonderful!
I was born in 2001, this show has been with me ever since I can remember my first trip to Disney, and on that first show I knew I was an Epcot kid. RIP IllumiNations
I saw this on its last day. I remembered crying at the end when “Promise” played because you wouldn’t even wanna know how many times I’ve Seen this show(Too many to count). It just weighs on you that a Great show like this had to go. One of my friends saw me crying afterwards and asked “Hey Viper, why you crying?” I said “I tell you when we get back to the hotel.” After that song as I was walking out, I thought “The original Epcot is now Just an Empty shell with Illuminations gone.” When we got back, I talked to them after we all showered saying “So guys The reason why I was crying was that the show was great and had a Purpose to it: That the world cares what we do to help them.” One friend then asked “So why were you crying if it was a great show” to which I replied “It was their last showing. In case you haven’t heard, They’re doing a Complete Renovation of the Park, removing a lot of stuff. Unfortunately among one of them, they’re removing Illuminations. I really deeply appreciate that you all went out of your way to see it your first and last time.” Edit: I really wished It would stay But like Walt once said *”We must keep moving Forward”* *Rip illuminations 1999-2019*
I was so lucky enough to had visited Orlando from the age of 3-12 (I’m now 24) I went with my grandparents-cousins- aunties and parents over that time and my grandad bought this cd over the time being there and still plays it too this day. He recorded our whole journey and made personal videos from his footage for all of the family-with these sound tracks. This composition will have a place in my hear until the day I die. I will always dream to go back one day.. so many memories with my loved ones who have left this planet and are still here. I vow to share this magic with my own family now I’m “grown up” x
We saw Harmonious last Nov and it lacked all the passion Illuminations had to offer. This music was so original and always struck an emotional chord. Perhaps that's why Harmonious met its end so soon. Regardless, I miss this show so much.
Thank you for uploading this to RUclips. I still remember the 1st time we saw this incredible fireworks show as well as the last- wish Disney would bring it back❤
This is a wonderful remastered edition!!! Brings back memories of going to Disney with family, friends on dates and watching this show after I got off from a shift working there. I did have the chance to see the show once more when I went home to visit on the year it was suppose to stop. Yes, yes, new chapter in life. We go on......
When you get to see such a awe inspiring show, for the first time wich i did in 2000, and then with my parents in 2002, and then with my wife in my honeymoon in 2014, its just a shame my kids wont be able to see this over the top spectacle. its my life´s soundtrack. Hope its back someday.
Illuminations was the best night show at epcot. I always enjoyed watching it in the evening after I had a full day touring both futureworld and the world showcase at epcot and it was awesome. Thanks for recording this WML95.
Goodness I miss this show so much! The new show doesn't come close to illuminations. Sadly but true. Boy do I miss the full stage of fireworks and above all this MUSIC! I'm happy I can still listen to it!
