If you have a video editing app, such as Final Cut Pro, you can adjust the exposure level of the SDR clip to match the attributes of an HDR clip, which will typically have increased highlights and deeper shadows.
I also compare the difference between recording in SDR versus recording in HDR. Recording in HDR will give you great looking HDR content easily without any editing, however you may be missing out on color and details of your highlights, because the HDR setting will automatically increase the brightness of your video, and sometimes it over compensates.
