The laws seem to suit the game played by women better than the men's game. I have been watching men's rugby for a long time and it seems to me that the women's game is currently similar to that played by Wales in the early 1980s, which was the time that the men's game was most fun to watch.

@@ldfreitas9437 I am sure you are right, but I am very surprised at the overall level of skills and athleticism that the best women players bring to the game, especially the back line. Zoe Harrison kicked more goals than most premiership 10s would achieve against USA, and displayed a high standard of tactical awareness. Abby Dow, Sophie de Goede and Alev Kelter all display a range of skills that you seldom see in the men's game. Jess Breach and Fancy Bermudez are faster than other wings by a margin that just doesn't exist with the men. I much prefer watching women's matches nowadays.

It was a long way from the Roses first team, with tryouts and injury returnees (and no Marlie). The total co-ordination was not up to the usual standard. Kudos to U.S.A. they have some powerful players and good runners. They take it seriously and are improving. It is a pity the crowds do not turn out yet, but North America is dominated by U.S. sports that are relatively minor in the rest of the world. The whole game and aftermath was a lesson in sportsmanship and cameraderie to some other sports.

I am new to Rugby thanks to RUclips Springboks and All Blacks channels I am becoming a fan, but Rugby will never replace our Football in my heart having played it in Highschool and College, also the Rugby men's game will never replace Football due to the salary difference for elite athletes so our top athletes will always choose the $$ of the NFL, which means we can't compete with the guys that don't make it in Football against SA/NZ and other country's top athletes who play Rugby... Our only hope is our women because we don't have leagues for women that pay at the level of the men's game, so the choice is dependent on which sport you like more for women. But Rugby I is a great sport and rugby players are Tough as hell.. And this is coming from a guy that didn't know there were two Rugby sports just a year ago league and Union... 🤣🤣🤣

Yea agree, bits of cohesion missing here and there. But a lot of the passing was more connected, ( i know some wasn't, it has been a lot worse) and kicking for goal unbelievably better. The opportunities given to some newer faces, proved good because that experience is valuable to player and coach. Those "rested" , ( and players will need a rest in tournaments) will pop back in. Tournaments often produce performances that can be err not quite as good as when you see them in a one off, or 3 game series; because you have to swap players about.

Two observations. Firstly, the size of the crowd raises the question as to whether next year France should host last year we also had disappointing crowds. Secondly, the debutant winger looks promising which means that England might have an interchangable set of wingers as well as a complete front row change. Also that means that Kildunne and Dow will have competition for places.

Watching from NZ, that was the most clinical dynamic game I’ve ever seen the Red Roses play. Lovely to watch. The try scored by the debutant Westcombe- Evan’s I haven’t seen that exact same move since the Black Ferns used it against Wales in the last WRWC and Breach’s try was a peach. Mathews doing Mathews things and Harrison’s boot on point.
USA played out of their skins as well and I thought the game was closer than what the game suggests. They certainly made England work for the majority of the match. Great to see this team progressing well under Sione Fukofuka.

This has been said for many years. And the top teams continue to win...
What if the best players for Samoa, Fiji, etc. are merely showcased - only to be creamed-off by the top-tier nations? (Seems to happen a lot!) How will the international game truly develop, then? Will other teams come through and be truly competitive? (I'm thinking about the men's game... but I wonder if it happens in the women's game, too...?)
Regarding Argentina, Japan, etc.... in the men's game, they can win as a one-off; but going on to win consistently...? No, if anything, things are going backward: Australia are no longer serious challengers, for example. (Yet, they won the World Cup twice!)
And in the women's game...? Maybe they can point the way forward to the men by making international competition far stronger. (But the pessimist in me tends to doubt it!)

With the greatest respect to the wonderful playing of Holly Aitchison and having seen the recent game of the Roses v the USA, I have always had an issue with the primary weakness in the England squad and that has been a consistent fly-half but specifically with the kicking duties. We all know how very necessary that role becomes most especially when the outcome of a game depends on the fine margins of precious points both from penalties and try conversions. Step into the breach then, Zoe Harrison! Her performance in that area alone was impressive to say the least! My feeling then is that Zoe should be the ‘go to’ player if for nothing else but that task and in no way does that undermine Holly’s abilities and excellence on the field. Does anyone feel differently to this suggestion, er…….John Mitchell?!

Take out 41 points from the English side and that's your final score... I hope explained it scientifically and logically correct for everyone to understand. Have a good day everyone!

US Women's Rugby fails miserably on the social media promotional front. I am in Arizona and I can easily jump on youtube and within seconds be watching an interview with the newest flanker on the Sale Sharks or an expose on the front three of the Black Ferns. Yet I would have a long search to find something on an American Womans Team at all. Its a shame that I can so easily follow teams halfway around the world yet so limited exposure in my own backyard.

The win did not justify the Roses performance here. The USA were bigger and far stronger than the Roses and it was only their technical ability that let them down. A team to fear in WC2025 if they turn up. Highlight for me was our spot kicker, exceptional on the night but must keep it up and be consistent. The young guns acquitted themselves well getting tries between them. Outstanding solo tries for Jess and Ellie, but oh Ellie Kildunne, you ain't a 15 sweetheart, you got wasted by the Yanks. Maybe your best role is 13. My choice at 15 is Emma Sing. Only when the rear guard came on with 20 mins left did we notice the change in class, until then, for me, USA dominated 60 mins of that game. Bitch over, well done ladies and good luck against the Ferns because I think they may just take that game.

Fully agree. Ellie Kildunne is a lovely player but you are dead right, she is poor defensively and not a good 15.
Emma Sing is the best English full back by a country mile, she can kick and score tries.

The Red Roses have to play in empty stadiums because of "promoting" the game to please the Rugby hierarchy. Twice the team has gone to New Zealand in two major tournaments with only somewhere approaching a crowd when the game involved the NZ team. Now the same in Canada. Such tournaments should only be scheduled in countries that make the effort to fill their stadiums and stop virtue signaling..

Lots of points scored for the Roses, but a generally poor quality performance,if thats John Mitchells idea of ruthless and clinical he needs to hit the textbooks again.Fragile on the left edge again, and no forward dominance.Lucy Packer was poor.Lucky it wasnt the Black Ferns today, the Roses would have been soundly beaten.

Great crowd turnout once again for women’s sport, the only times the stadiums have crowds in is when they give away free tickets when you buy a cheeseburger at MacDonalds, or give free tickets to schools and other establishments, hardly anyone wants to watch this rubbish eventually it will die a natural death.

This is an experimental World Wide competition which includes many countries which are not traditional rugby players. The range from the very best to the worst is naturally wide. The top nations can play to full stadiums, and even domestic games in England have large crowds and some television coverage. There was a lot worth watching this weekend, e.g Netherlands v Samoa and the Japanese fighting to the end against a South African team that seriously outweighed them and had the advantage of a home venue. Crowds etc. do tend to indicate that women's sport is still not taken as seriously or supported as well as in the U.K. and some other nations. The point is--they want to play and they have been given the opportunity. Some of the U.S. team are keen enough to improve their game that they now play for English teams.
