Old-timer Irish supporter here: New Zealand's backs had scant reposte to Abbi Dowd & Co in this match . Her sheer pace, prey-drive and class denote a true "thorough-bred". And Abbi is but one such "thorough-bred" in a lithe England backline that is oozing class: and it is still evolving. This rapier-like attacking speed, skill and accuracy is only as good as the forwards provide though, and they are all of "high-pedigree", too. Very well done indeed to the English ladies. Great craic 🏴‍☠😎☘.

Irish fan here - we're just seeing some green shoots after a few very tough years for our ladies. NZ are clearly full of talent but maybe adapting to a new system, the attack is firing but defensive set up reminds me of the early days of Farrell with the Irish men's team, just needs time to click. If England are in the Final - I’d be amazed if they weren’t - then Twickenham will probably sell out, especially if they’re playing our NZ Black Ferns. Let’s hope it’s played at the right time of the day - afternoon kick off ! - and not these ridiculous night matches so the Union can squeeze more dosh out of tv media wanting to sell more Ads to Southern Hemisphere morning audience. 2pm kick off means, on most days, even in damp ol’ England, a dry pitch and a dry ball: perfect conditions for running rugby played out wide.

I remember England players reaction at the end of the WC Final at Eden Park, they knew they were the better team and NZ had nicked it at a line out error on 79 minutes. They’re making hay nowadays, sweet revenge. NZ will get better but the awkward truth currently, from our point of view, is England are just too good, by far the better team.

Classy post - thanks. Looking at the BF defence it looks entirely fixable - all teams will struggle to contain the England back three and getting parity in the forwards will be tough but the defensive alignment can be sorted. All the time spent developing Ariana Bayler and then she's dropped, so you now have two newbie half backs....
    At least start Iritana Hohaia.
Renee Holmes has been out of form since returning from injury. Last week she gave away 6 penalties from getting isolated and holding on to the ball.
If players aren't in form, drop them amd have them play their way back into the starting lineup.

Woodman-Wickcliffe has retired. The rest od sevens players will not help the team's problems; front row, forward play and kicking. Hirini might improve the forwards playing the ball, but not so much in carrying. None of those players are quality kickers nor play front row.
NZ used use thier forwards when their wide game wasn't clicking or used to grind and wear down the opposition (2017 was a great example). The halfback play is suspect, especially with Demant relegated to 2nd fifth(?). Demant nor the preferred halfbacks are proficient in kick passing (or strategic kicking in general). Waaka and the former Fitzpatrick are capable tacklers but they aren't playing at wing.
Ponsonby had a great game against France. Was holding onto the ball and making positive gains. Wish she was more consistent. Olsen-Baker at #8 was a surprise. Haven't seen production from that position in years. Besides those players, no forward has shown anything.

Saying that the Black Ferns were outplayed everywhere despite having good lead up games but seem to have learnt very little.
