Glad it helps you. I would say, if you're buying a Gibson for the trem and want to use a trem then you're buying the wrong guitar. I bought it because I love the look of that sideways vibrola and knew full well that it wasn't a viable trem system and I had the block on order in parallel with the guitar.
@@guitargathering4488 Thank you. I'll probably buy it because I love the look. One thing I've learned about tremoloes--less is more. You don't have to do a "dive bomb" every time. Any of the guitars I have with a whammy bar (Bixby or otherwise), I have learned to use in a very subtle way. If I could, I'd probably get the SG with the three pickups and the more conventional style Whammy bar but I'm not sure it's readily available and it's about 1500 more. I'll have to think this one overnight. I really want the guitar. If I'm only going to use the tremolo in a subtle fashion it may be okay. It's pretty cool what you did to yours with the modification. I'm not sure I'll be able to do all that but I'll have to think this one through. I just purchased the Jimi Hendrix SG. The one where there were only 150 made so I do have an SG with three pickups already. Financially, that one was a stretch for me. I never dreamed I would spend that much on a guitar. But it's awfully cool. I think that is called a Batwing whammy bar. Again, from what I've learned about Whammy bars,you're supposed to use them in a subtle way.

Excellent review and beautiful guitar, sounds great! I love the look of the sideways vibrola unit but I guess we know why they only stayed in production for a couple of years or so. This is an interesting modification to the guitar, I see it blocks out/locks the vibrola unit. Thanks for sharing
gotta say i'm actually starting to like the vibrola, i haven't been extending the arm, but i like the motion of just pulling up subtly by the bridge to get that tremolo. the bigger problem i have is that it has like a half an inch of wiggle room before you can push or pull it; i wish there was a modification or fix for that, but people mostly seem interested in blocking it off entirely 😢
I really enjoyed your video. I have a Gibson 61 SG/Les Paul Tribute like yours and I am very interested in installing the Mojoaxe reissue Vibola block kit. I looked on their site and couldn't find what you've described. They offer a kit for a "Vintage Vibrola" but nothing showing for the newer reissue. At least I didn't see it. Could you indicate the correct description of the kit and maybe where you actually purchased it so I can look into acquiring one. I greatly appreciate any help you may offer.
Are putting lockers At the nut not an option? Referring to something such as whats used with the Floyd Rose systems?!. Bear with me, I don't have one of these guitars myself in front of me, so just a question...

I find a leather strap is the best solution for any guitar that's got a touch of neck dive. I'm sure the vibrola helps too but I don't have an SG without one to compare.
lubricate the nut. this system works fine you just have to understand it. roller bridge and lube the nut. It is easy. I don't think you did your research. Billy Gibbons uses one on stage with no issues what so ever. You have no clue.
If you look into the designs and engineering of Gibson electrics they’re horrible. The LP was heavy. The SG was fragile. The angled headstock is fragile. You can’t sit comfortably playing a flying V. The explorer, firebird, and thunderbird neck dive. The vibrola system is horrible. But hey as far as overpriced industrial art sculptures go they look great in a lawyer or doctors office 😏👌
So bad that Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Joe Walsh, Jimmy Page, Slash and many others all played and recorded some of the greatest music with Gibson guitars.

It’s an absolutely awful system. I had a maestro on Monday and sold it on Tuesday. Awful instrument.

The bridge moves that’s the problem. I put new studs in mine and it’s perfect now.
I agree, the bridge has some wobble and that is a big contributing factor. You’d think Gibson would go for a locking bridge with rollers for this.

Same here. I don’t extend the arm and barley touch it.

I found a solution by screwing a strap button into one of the preexisting holes where the bearing is and it locked things down

Well maybe you should actually play a Gibson before you make an assumption about them because I own a Gibson SG 61 reissue and they are INCREDIBLE.
