just to note, updating your bios may enable secure boot, so if you're having problems booting up or think you are stuck in a no signal loop, first try ctrl+alt+del and enter bios to disable it
make sure the usb is set to fat32, also disable XMP profile or any sort of overclocking before updating, you want your system to be as stable as possible.

B660M Mortar motherboard supports 12th gen intel cpus out of the box. You have to update the bios using 12th gen part to use latest 13th gen cpus. Or you can buy the motherboard which has bios flashback feature. Bios flashback allows you to update the bios without cpu

I have i5-12400 + B660M D4 as well but spider man runs without any issue. I don't see any stutters while gaming

MSI recommends BIOS update only if your PC has some problems. So if you don't need an update then don't do it
