WHY IS ESPN/ABC not bringing GARY BACK? I have never been a big ALBERT fan. Sorry.. DAN KELLY, GARY THORNE..TOP TWO ALL-TIME IN THAT ORDER.. EMRICK TOP FIVE.. CANADIAN BORN TV- KELLY, JOHN FORSLUND, DANNY GALLIVAN..
Im a 49-year old St. Louis boy. I don't think that game was so "awesome" as you suggested. 😂😂😂 just kidding ...hey tho, a few days ago I read a comment that blamed Jon Casey for giving up Yzerman's shot from the Blue line. First off, Casey was standing on his head in this game. Was brilliant, after the Blues losing our stud goalie Grant Fuhr to injury. Second, Yzerman's shot came from the old, closer blue-line. 3rd, it was a daggum LASER OF A SHOT !!!!!!!!! Another note to this game is rarely did either team have enough chemistry to make more than one pass without turning the puck over. Sure it was fairly tight checking, bust as far as STL, Mike Keenan had too many personel changes as GM and HC. Great players, but needed more time to build chemistry. But "awesome" game ? Depends on who you ask. Lol 😂🙏💙 🐢
I was so hear broken, blues should of won this game, but he avs should thank the blues for taking Detroit to the limit, this team had 60 wins, and no one gave the blues a chance in this series
Got their ass kicked by my Avs...2002 was the best Detroit team anyways...like 11 HOFers or something. Thats the best team ive ever seen-granted ive only closely followed the nhl since 1995,when the Avs were born. 2001 Avs are #2...teams in the salary cap era just dont compare to teams back then. They cant because of the cap. Even the best cap era teams-like my 2022 Avs-who have a legit argument as best, single season, cap era team ever...they still dont have the talent of Detroit,Colorado,or even NJ back then. Forsberg,& Federov were unbelievable players, but were only 2c on these teams cuz of Sakic,& Stevie Y. I will say,had Konstantinov not got in that unfortunate accident...him,& Lindstrom probably go down as the best d pair Ive ever seen. This Detroit team was great,& so was Colorado. But Detroit was still a bit soft,& not ready yet in 1996. But as great as the Avs were in 1996,& Wings were in 1997,& 98...2002 Detroit,& 2001 Colorado were better. And as long as we have a salary cap...it will literally be almost impossible for any team to ever challenge those teams in pure talent...not to mention experience of guys like Bourque,Blake,Roy,Sakic,Hasek,Chellios,Stevie Y,Hatcher,Hull,Robataile,etc...the list goes on,& on. But when healthy, the 2 best players on those teams were Lindstrom,& Forsberg.(not counting Roy,& Hasek-arguably the 2 best goalies ever-as its tough to compare goalies to skaters. Those guys are the 2 best goalies ive ever seen, though Vasilevsky,Broduer,& Belfour are in the argument)

One of the greatest game 7's in sports history. Still brings a tear to my eyes to watch it. The wings go on to lose to Colorado and that team changes so much before the 97 season. Shanahan, Murphy, Sandstorm, Greg Johnson, Sru Grimson, and Bob Errey come in and the rest is history.
Johnson was traded for Sandstrom, Grimson waived after the Shanahan deal, and Errey waived in January. Trading Dino was heavily criticized, but it gave more ice time to Lapointe and McCarty, Maltby becamea regular, and Kocur was added in December. That trade for Murphy was underrated at the time, as well. They got bigger, more physical, and wiser overall.
MacTavish rockin it old school, without a helmet. After they made it a rule, they grandfathered it in and he was the last player to play without one. What's even weirder is watching older games where even the goalie isn't wearing a helmet or a mask. It's amazing any of them survived.

what a job Fedorov did on Gretzky Spectacular white knuckle win by Detroit, but this 7 game knock down drag out series really took a lot out of Detroit
I remember this game. I knew Colorado was almost sure to win the next series as they were rested and Detroit was a tired team, and Colorado was playing better at the time.
This series took a lot more out of Detroit's sales than most people realized or expected at the beginning, the Wings probably were expected to polish off the Blues in quick fashion, whereas the Avs went through a tough series with Chicago but finished them off a few nights earlier and still had plenty of confidence entering the Detroit series. The Wings were still the heavy favorites and had all the pressure on them while the Avs didn't have as much expectations placed on them but as it turned out the Avs were clearly the better team vs the Wings.
@@ckendall67 Not saying the Wings would have won the series, but if Paul Coffey doesn't score a hattrick in Game 1 (2 goals for Detroit, and 1 he shot into his own net), the Wings would've won 2-1, and the series would've gone 7 games. One of the reasons Coffey got traded the next year.

The 90s really had the worst hockey ever, all that talent on the ice and only 1 to nothing, really? They should have called more penalties on the lazy defensemen that just hooked and grabed everyone
Teams back in the 90's had this thing... I think they called them defensive-forwards. They realized that offense may win a game, but defense will win a series. The only so called "lazy defensemen" played for the Devils. Other teams had forwards supporting defenseman in systems like the Left Wing Lock that mitigated clean shots and easy offensive zone possession. If you think the 90's had the worst hockey, what era do you think had the best? I hope it is not the current era where the guys in stripes think they play for one of the teams.

They shouldn't be overly excited about winning against my Blues they should be ashamed of themselves that it took them two double overtime tied 0-0 when they had a superior team to what we had
That was a very good blues team, they just had mike Keenan as a coach, the worst move all time, the great one wanted to stay here, his wife is from here, how do you not sign him
But we got the cup now,an are sitting in a good position to make a run at a dynasty if petro resigned it's a tuff team to deal with, and Robert Thomas, wow and Sanford, two emerging stars, they got the youth, they got the players in place, petro signed I see a 5 year run were we can get two r 3 more cups...LETS GOOOOOO BLUUUUUUEEEEEESSSS
@@duncanmacock1131, that post did not age well.
Tough loss for St. Lose It.
lgrw!
This game was SOOOOOO boring. Stevie's GWG in OT was literally the only highlight of the game.
Mango Fett huh? How about all the amazing saves and intense moments throughout the entire game?
How was it boring? Haha. Literally a defensive masterpiece by both d cores and netminders. Made the stevie y goal that much more special
I'm a blues fan since the late 70s an bud I'm sorry you think this was a boring game, this is easily 1 of the top ten playoff games of all time
He doesn't know hockey there's no way to argue this
You better count the hof players in this game
@@benhill7216 1980s all the way
@@johnzagar6177 Enforcers and high scoring forwards. The 1980's had some real gems, most definitely.
