You can pick up a brand new Nikon from a grey market importer for £488, is no riskier than buying 2nd hand. I've had quite a few that way, only had a problem once, and they replaced it without quibble.
@@squaresilverstitchA quick internet search would suggest E-infinity has it at £488. Personally, you are better off with Cotswold at £499 for the 3 year guarantee.
@@squaresilverstitch e-infinity, I've had quite a lot off them including my Nikon Zf, I got that for under £2k with the 40m F2 when everybody was selling the Zf alone for £2,200. I think the Zf alone is down to about £1,500 there now.
Please add the 70-200! As someone with few Nikon lenses, it would be nice to know if the zoom can fill the need across a range. Thanks for the fun and info ring content!
When it comes to stiffness, I also prefer my focus ring to be more on the stiff side... An 85-Battle-Off sounds good, and feel free to put any other lens in the mix, but keep it as simple as possible. Sometime too many cooks can spoil the broth. These third-tier lenses are really starting to make an impact, and it opens up opportunities for all levels of photography. The Nikon lens is obviously better in most ways, but for the money and the ability to correct lens issues in post-editing, something like the 7Artisans 85mm is just the type of lens that would excite a budding photographer and bring about some excellent results. Looking forward to the future reviews and for the 85mm comparisons.
@@MookieMc Thanks as always, it’s good to hear some clear advice and input which shapes this channel. I also hope it makes the big brands make the best even better, and not try to beat the 3rd party lenses at their own game
In your shootout, I’d love to see you include the Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD on an FTZ. These were great SLR lenses and it would be great to see how they compare with their mirrorless competition.
@@RussandLoz Have you thought about approaching MPB? They might lend you whatever you want for a quick mention the way you mention when the manufacturer has loaned you the lens?
So if using the 7Artisans 85mm on LED Lights on either from a stabilization position does it Focus Breath? I have used the Viltrox which did better but still not as sharp as the Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8. Cheers!

@ The Nikon all the way! IMO, the 7Artisans is not sharp, the colors don’t look good, and it performs like a sub 300 quid lens. Also, no click stops on the aperture ring. I’m not a big fan of “character” lenses. To me, character is a euphemism for poor quality, but don’t let my opinion sway you. It’s just that: my opinion. @@jeffrey3498 Yes, good point. I also tend to think that the new Nikon 1.4's are too big of a comprise of quality for .4 difference of character, slower focussing too. Not sure why people like them so much.
@@jcben We have a review of that lens comparing to the 24-70 2.8. Which are similar at 120mm. But if we use the 70-200 that’ll answer that question too 😊

When you do your comparisons please compare flare and fringing as well as your standard tests.
There are third party 85mm f/1.4 Manual and Autofocus. Meike AF, Rokinon and Samyang MF. Cheers!

Good question, I don't usually consider focus breathing but I will for the battle off
