This video is like a “Dummies how to” on break changes. plus steps not commonly taken by the average person who already changes breaks themselves. Excellent video.
@@themechanic6117thanks for posting the video, I’ve just got done changing my breaks. Just wanted to make sure I didn’t need any special tools before I started. Like a star socket, or whatever.
By far your best "how to" video. Narration was excellent and the close ups were really helpful. I'm sure this one took awhile to get so thorough and clean so thanks for that
It's definitely a step in the right direction. I'm liking how clear the new camera is and with my new tri pod I'm able to get new angles. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
This was really good. I've never changed my bakes on my 2015 cruze but want to try it now. Your video was better than people with actually shops. Thank you bro. I appreciate this video!
Good video, but, there should have been a light coat of brake grease inside the slider plates, the those tabs should probably have been reformed slightly as those pads should move easily towards and away from the rotor or you will have premature pad wear and possible hot spots on the rotor. At 5:58 the top slider plate you can see the bend in the top plate. When you put the spring clips back you can see they didn't budge the pads, that's their job, to move the pads away from the rotor. Teflon plumbing tape works great as a thread lock, and it doesn't glue your screws or bolts.
It took 40+ years experience to be this good 😂👍. This car has about 60k and the pads still had some life left in them. Customer just wanted to get rid of the squealing noise.
I'm about to do my brakes tomorrow (assuming parts arrive on time!) but it will be my first attempt and I plan on using your video as reference so I'd like to thank you for the straightforward and easy instructions. If I may ask a question, assuming you still check these comments, what sort of grease do you use on the slide pins? And do you use the same stuff on the piston/bracket?
It's a different grease. On the piston n bracket you can use "caliper " grease, on the slide pins you can used die electric grease. If you use anything else it'll cause future problems with the slide pins .
I was doing the brake job at night and couldn’t find one of the little springs that goes on top of the brake pads and rotors. I’m going to look for it in the morning but what would happen if I can’t find it and no one has it in stock? Will it cause any problems if I don’t put the springs back?
hello I have a 2015 Chevy Cruze put on new front rotors and pads now on left side I hear a grinding noise when I press on the brakes . Any information would be appreciated ty
If its difficult to go in you're better off replacing the caliper... It'll cause all kinds of problems. Happened to me a few days ago. Used a caliper that i had a hard time forcing the piston in. It held constant pressure on the rotor.the wheel wouldn't spin freely and the pads were smoking after a short drive almost catching on fire! Just replace the caliper
What kind of gun do you have to remove and put back on the lug nuts ? Is it the air type or electric ? Like battery, just wondering because I bought one at autozone but its either not strong enough or something because it keeps damaging the lug nuts ..
Great video, I'll do the same this week, I also have the same cruze in the same colour. Lately I felt that the steering is getting harder, I don't know how to diagnose it, do you?
@@themechanic6117 Forgot to mention I figured out what it was. Somehow left the hook I was using to hang the caliper up on the shock....surprised it didnt fall off when I was driving. Thanks for the video.
You don't need to remove the cap on the master cylinder when compressing the caliper's piston. Also, I would suggest removing that bottom fastener so you don't need to pry on the caliper's piston. Prying on the caliper's piston only on one side can damage it. Notice how the tool you used later to compress the piston applies an even pressure on the piston.
Of couse it doesnt have to be removed. 95% of brake jobs i dont i dont remove the cap. The problem is if i didnt include it in the video the people point it out... Apparently if i do do it people still point it out 😂. I agree with not pushing the piston at an angle but its just a very small amount. As long at the correct tool is used to compress the piston itll be fine. Thanks for watching

The slide pin was contaminated from when you cleaned the rust. I would remove both bolts and keep the slide pins in place while cleaning the rust. I saw that you wiped it off and the end but still not the best practice
Alot of mistakes : First off new pads on old rotors such a waste of time ( not even machining ) or replacement. Don't expect brakes to last long.Nouse, pulsation, uneven wear. Next you put new pad retaining clips non with out cleaning, sing of poor workmanship. Next not properly removing bot caliper pin bolts leads to seizing. I would like to try and take rotor off next brake job. That will be fun and from all beating and banging next time that harms the wheel bearing. Lastly no lubricant, antiseize or disc quite on back sides of pads . . . .
Wow. It must seriously suck to be you David H. Perhaps a little lubricant for your hemorrhoid problem would help your situation. Good luck with that and I hope you feel better soon.

Muy bueno! Muchas gracias!
Did that inner pad have a slight taper to it?
My brakes are squealing and I think it's due to a tapered pad.
I didn't notice a taper but I also wasn't looking for it. The squealing do go away with replacing the pads .
Great video Thanks
I’m here for the cookies!!
I’m gonna do this soon
This dude is awesome 👍👍👍
Do you need to bleed the brakes?
Could you change the rear brakes there’s always a little more difficult then the front 🤔
What are those springs on top of the pads called and are they necessary to have? Changing my pads and it’s missing on one side.
They keep the pads spread apart . If you go to any auto parts store you can buy a brake hardware kit for your car and it should include the springs

I'm assuming the spring in the center of the caliper? They keep pressure on the pads to prevent noise or rattling of the pads

Best i can recommend is to take that wheel off and inspect the brakes. Makes sure the dust shield isnt touching the rotor or the hardware kit
New pads and rotors may make noise until the pad "seats" which really doesn't take very long.
NIce Video.Thanks.
Thank you

nick why on first visual inspection i see groves on both sides of rotors in rear but front rotors both sides are clean abd smooth?
The groves should not be there. Something must have been rubbing on the rotors

How is it damaging lug nuts? Are you using the correct size sockets?
@@themechanic6117 yeah it fits perfectly, it's just scratching them , like it takes longer than it's supposed to , to unscrew them

My concern is compressing the piston, how can i do this simpler
Buying the inexpensive tool i showed in the video is the easiest and safe way to compress the piston
@@themechanic6117 Great video. What tool is that called and what type of grease should I get specifically?
Look for a brake caliper tool. I use synthetic caliper grease. Different manufacturers make them

Tools is $10 on Amazon, C-clamp, my rear caliper I just pushed it against the rotor after the c-bracket was off.
What did ypu put on the slide pins?
Most likely die electric grease. It wold dry out like other grease do
nick, will the pro lift 3 ton jack fit under cruze? I seen em on amazon for under $40
It should fit. Is it a low profile? I'd recommend one of those so you know you can get it under any car
