    Also it doesn't scale linearly upto around 30kv its about 2mm/kv from needle electrodes after that its around 1mm/kv 80kv can jump 100mm from sharp points in 40% relative humidity, again this doesn't apply to Tesla coils as Tesla coils dont jump gaps outright

    Nice tesla coil! I haven't made a VTTC before. Where'd you get the tube? And what kind of video would you like to collaborate on?

    • @NerdlabsSci
      @NerdlabsSci  2 года назад

      the tube is an Eimac 3cx5000a7 high-mu triode rated for 5kw. it's worth like $2000 but i got it for free by disassembling a broken MRI machine i found at an electronics warehouse. for the collab we could do some kind of plasma or chemistry project becuz that's what you do more on your channel but if you are open to it we could do a laser project because i am getting more into the laser hobby lately. if you want to discuss the collab more email me at nerdlabs94@gmail.com

      @@NerdlabsSci sick! you should make a more powerful tesla coil with it then! and okay let's email

      @@BackMacSci the main factor holding me back from higher power levels on the VTTC is that the feedback coil keeps arcing to the primary coil which is already a huge issue and would be even worse if i were to increase the power level. the 2 coils already barely fit on the pvc pipe coupling i used as the primary coil form so i would need another piece of pvc pipe to separate the coils. 6" pvc is really expensive where i live so i can't really upgrade it yet.

    Where is the 1000000 volts? All I smell is cap

    • @NerdlabsSci
      @NerdlabsSci  Год назад

      the Tesla Coil produces 1,000,000 volts which produce the lightning bolts. I read somewhere that it takes 3,000,000 volts to make a 1 meter long lightning bolt. my Tesla Coil makes 16 inch long lightning bolts(I measured it). By this logic my Tesla coil is way over a million volts. however, this measurement is based on a different type of high voltage source. Tesla Coils actually make longer lightning bolts than what should be theoretically possible with their given voltage. based on this I can say that my Tesla Coil is somewhere from 850,000 to a million volts.

      @@NerdlabsSci I would highly doubt that as at high frequencies like on a Tesla coil, quite little voltage can be used to produce a vary like arc since the ionized air is quite conductive and the high frequencies allows it to utilized the already made arcs to extend even larger like a wire. That is why something like qcwdrrstcs have multi meter long arcs with only a like 50kv because of multi mhz frequencies

    • @NerdlabsSci
      @NerdlabsSci  Год назад

      but this isn't a qcwdrsstc this is a FREAKING VTTC

      @@NerdlabsScithis is a great coil for your age and first build, however the high voltage is not very high mate. the figures you quoted here are only true for out right jumps and between two spheres, Tesla coils dont work that way, the high frequency arc couples capacitively to the air and grows ( propagates) very slowly (in electronics terms) it grows over the positive going portion of the mains sinewave, the period of a 50hz sinewave is 20mS. so the arc grows over 10mS of the mains ramp at 50hz and 7.5mS at 60hz assuming you are using a mains syncronous staccato and a level shifter voltage doubler if your not using a doubler the propagation time will be half what I quoted and this is why you get bigger arcs using a level shifter over a half wave rectified transformer of the same voltage as the level shifted voltage..
