    I have had some white oak timber drying in my garage for about two years now so it should be about right to start my Roubo workbench using that moisture stabilized wood. The joinery you used on that table will certainly pertain to my making the workbench. Well done, both the project and the video. I am SO appreciative that you didn't have music blaring between your voice overs.

    • @ThirdCoastCraftsman
      @ThirdCoastCraftsman  6 лет назад

      Thanks David, i appreciate that. That sucks you have all that rain, that would get frustrating for sure. Have you tried a crystillined wax like Renaissance Wax? Lee Valley also sells a tool protecting wax. It forms a nice protective layer on your tools to prevent rust. I use it on all my tools and ive noticed a big improvement. Its better than oiling them.

  • @FishersShop

    What an amazing table, Chris! You did such an awesome job with it! I wish I had a tenth of your skill with hand tools!! I can't believe that there's no fasteners in that thing, that's so cool! I would have gone through about 8 boxes of deck screws to hold my version together! lol! So if you had to, can you pound out the pegs to remove the top? Or is that on there permanently? Truly a stunning piece, Chris... fantastic job!

      @ThirdCoastCraftsman  6 лет назад +13

      Hey Drew! Man, thanks again for all the kind words, making a guy blush! Yes, you can very easily remove the dowels that hold the top to the base so that it easily comes off for moving. Im actually kind of proud of that little idea haha.

      @@ThirdCoastCraftsman Awesome dude. I lost my grandpa in 2011. I wish I would have made it a point to build more things with him. He was a craftsman as well. I've not tackled anything like this but I've taken on several projects and always wish he was around for them. My most recent is a built-in lighted bookshelf, 9'x14', I certainly had some questions to ask him going through that! Your grandpa's legacy lives on in your work dude. Keep hammering!

  • @wmwalkerco
    @wmwalkerco 6 лет назад +3

    Really really well done! How many hours would you say you have in this build? I totally wanted you to keep that table natural. I think it would've looked flawless. I'm a sucker for natural Oak though. Great build either way!

    • @ThirdCoastCraftsman
      @ThirdCoastCraftsman  6 лет назад

      Hey Will, Thanks brother, much appreciated. Id say there is about 60-80 hours in it. granted filming really slowed me down, but it was definitely a long one. All those M&Ts take time too. I agree with you on natural wood too, but this was for a customer who wanted it stained, that being said, I am really happy with how this stain looked. Oak is so easily ruined with stain, so im happy how this turned out.

    • @nickyork8901

    I think you did an very nice job on this table. Excellent work on all the mortise and tenon joints and the draw boring. With all the work that it took to produce this table, I would have spent a few extra dollars on quartersawn white oak for the top. I think the medullary rays and straighter grain would have sent this over the top in its appearance. Again, awesome job, this is a really beautiful table.

    this was a nice sunday morning watch. i've gotten a great idea for my diy pine computer desk build, watched some very pretty looking wood get cut into a fine craft work table and also got inspired to try more hand made joinery. your video has a nice dynamic flow of videography and narration was excellent.

    Man. I built this exact table a few years back and didn't have the time, tools, space or skill to do it like this, but I really wanted to. I think after my last two years of projects and classes and tool aquisition, I could do it, but I still don't have the TIME!! But, dang, this video had all the things I want to try! Draw born bread board ends, timber frames knee braces, the hand-cut dove tail. I loved it. Makes me want to put all my other projects on hold.
