Thanks alohadean. That light is made by Intova. Proud to say they are a generous sponsor of the series and even more proud to say they are a local Hawaii company. Their lights are amazingly bright and their industrial design is fantastic.

A very wet and blue one. So far, it is our favorite.

This perfect. I have a short attention span yet am fascinated by the sea. Your video presentations are just right for me in every way. Your narration peaks my interest and leaves me wanting more. Great job.

The fact that you could identify most everything you filmed in this video would make me think that the oceans have been explored more than you think - just not by you :)
That being said, it is a great video and you guys are amazing - going out into the deep blue at night off Oahu - very exciting!!

Thanks Dave. Lighting translucent animals is definitely tough. We used a mix of back lighting and top lighting to get the desired effects with these ctenophores. But most of the credit for the light show has to go to the animals themselves who manipulate light better than any lighting assistant we know:)

Wow - incredible stuff - thanks so much for posting this!! One strange observation: the "pyrosome" (sp?) at 2:01 - 2:32 reminds me very much of a particular Star Trek (Original Series) episode, where a gigantic alien structure threatens to consume the Enterprise but I'll have to confirm ... ah, yes: S2E6: "The Doomsday Machine" - THIS is what I'm reminded of when I see the "pyrosome" - anyone else make the same association? (I know - kinda Trekkie/geeky of me ... )
