For those who're saying "missing what shows", the video missed A LOT of classic mecha shows, especially in 1990s to 2000s. So there're just a lot more mecha anime than you all know.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is absolutely my top 1 anime of all time, heck it's even my favorite in any media that i have ever consumed. Not because something like it has the best plot ever, but just how much impact it gave me. Literally helped me going through depression. The characters, OSTs, fluid animation that brought so many potentials, ridiculous power system that kicks logic to the curb, and especially the quotes that always go so hard! It is the epitome of hype, embodiment of indomitable human spirit, and needless to say, peak fiction. And no i'm not exaggerating, that's just how much impact Gurren Lagann gave me. I really hope someday Nick going to watch this masterpiece.
Same bro it motivates me to do better and this is the anime that I watched before I got my first job.

Gridman and Bravern are both excellent! so is Witch From Mercury, but anyone would tell you that.
Bravern especially does not at all hint at just how crazy that anime gets from an outside perspective... there's like, one big plot twist in that thing that takes it from already insane, to NEXT LEVEL.
Idk, Witch feels kinda meh if you compare it to many other Gundam series, it's an ok show in the vacuum, but when you think of the bigger franchise you can't rate it to high.
@@ivansolodyankin6820 oh, probably... but that actually makes it a great way to get people introduced to the franchise. it's a solidly good show, and presents well enough to convince people that pursuing more is worth it, but there's still upward to go from there.
There is lot mecha anime that are missing here like Escaflowne, Adnoah Zero, Full Metal Panic, Eureka 7, War in Geminar, Vandread, RahXephon, Heroic Age, Fafner and so much more.

SSSS Gridman is based on live action show from the 90s. SSSS is from the American version, Super Human Samurai Syber Squad. Eir Aoi sings Innocence and Ignite. The second opening theme for Sword Art Online and the first opening theme for Sword Art Online II.

Hmmm...there are a LOT of mecha shows that are missing here. I was about to say that maybe they skipped the OVAs but "Gunbuster" is an OVA.

Yeah, I wish I included Gatchaman, that was my bad. I wanted to avoid OVAs, but I knew if I didn't include Gunbuster, people would be angry. Little did I know, there'd be plenty of other series people would want anyway lol

They missed a ton of mech anime, and some good/popular ones too. Dangioh, Escaflowne, Detonator Orgun, Giant Robo, Big O, Appleseed, Patlabour to name a few.

Astroboy is OG and I like the remake in the early 2000s.
Personally, I would like to add "Mobile Battleship Nadesico" to the list of recommendations.
It's an anime series from around the 00's, but it's a must-see if you want to see great animation, as Japanese animation during this period was in transition from celluloid to CG.
The English title is Martian Successor Nadesico, and it's in the video at 1996. No mention of Gekigangar III though. (Original anime run was 1996-1997 with the movie in 1998.)

Earlier anime OP were song about the anime itself, from 80s onward they got pop/rock music with some theme barely related to the show, JAM Project got the old style [the music/lyrics related to the show] into newer anime, like Onepunch Man. Mech anime kind of held that tradition 'for some reason' until mid 90s
Regarding Ichiru Mizuki - kind of the king of anime music of the old, passed away recently, famous for a 24h live show since the setlist was so vast. He also was an original member of Jam Project along with Kageyama [singer of Dragon Ball Z]
Finally a mention of Daimos on RUclips! Best anime EVER.

Franxx was 2018, so the same year as SSSS.Gridman, which was better and gets the spot on the video instead.

I really wish the legend, Ichirou Mizuki was still with us. But sadly he passed away in 2022.

I'm a fan of the Japanese Transformers series, and while some of the Transformers series are actually developed and manufactured by Japanese companies, and some of the animated series are also Japanese-led (such as Master Force, Beast Wars II, etc., which are currently available for free on RUclips...), do you think that the Japanese-led Transformers series and their theme songs count as Japanese anime?
I'm curious because most of the robot anime reactions and videos from overseas skip this area.
This really puts into perspective how much of a kick to the nards Evangelion was at the time. It's like it took 2 years for people to process wtf just happened before the industry sat up abruptly and said in unison "Wait... you can just ... do that?"
The SSSS series originates from a Tokusatsu show (Ultraman, Godzilla, SuperSentai, KamenRider, and such) from the 90s. The Gridman Anime is a loose sequel to the OG Toku show with some references to the OG kaijus here and there, and the Dynazenon Anime is set in different universe where they fight with Dynazenon (a friend of Gridman from the Toku show) instead of Gridman.

As you guys love Transformers, we Japanese love mechs with cockpits and pilots.
Some of the mecha shows are not just mecha too, Magic Knight Rayearth being old school isekai, while Knight's & Magic is newer isekai. No Macross Plus, Macross Zero, Macross 7, and it's also missing Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures. (Among many other shows that other people have mentioned, like the classic anime The Vision of Escaflowne.)
Watching Gurren Lagann with friends on a home projector was a lot of fun.
