172: Nanmu Walking Brachiosaurus (Watchmen, Grey) Review

  • If ever there were any Jurassic Park dinosaurs I wanted, it would be the most iconic dinosaurs. Since I didn't like the Velociraptors, for me that leaves Brachiosaurus and T Rex. The T Rex I acquired in the Once and Future King Buck T Rex, and now in this Watchmen Walking grey variant, I have the Brachio.
    It's large, as befits a sauropod, and certainly makes an impact on any shelf of Jurassic Park dinosaurs. It displays very nicely next to the W-Dragon Giraffatitan too! With the detail that Nanmu is famous for, and a nice paint application to top it off, this one is a no-brainer if you've ever wanted a JP Brachiosaurus.

    Talking about "accuracy", every few years we have a new accurate version of all dinosaurs, so I am really happy with both the Nanmu and the W-Dragon as they are. My regret is that I have not been able to get the Standing version from Nanmu, not even in Ebay. Thank you DinosDragons for this excellent comparison.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад +1

      You're most welcome! The thing about accuracy is that with the speed of new discoveries, it's not really possibly to have _the_ definitive version of many dinosaurs. So I'm quite happy to have any model that, at the point of purchase, represented the best known iteration then. That's how I continue loving my old Carnegies from 30 years or so ago.
      I really have mixed feelings about the standing one. You may have watched my 'Lying Brachiosaurus' video. That story seems to be the norm, with undamaged ones being the exception. you would probably have to pay a lot for it, only to have to top up some more for repairs. And not everyone was as lucky as I was, to have quite a clean break with just some stray chips that the expert I consulted was able to patch.

      You're most welcome as always Michael! I try to do this for those that are especially expensive as I know this isn't the best of times. I'd say you really do lose nothing if you prefer accuracy, and this is really for JP nostalgia. There is a fineness in the W-Dragon that the Nanmu lacks, and you can definitely be proud to own just that!

    I get that some people will prefer more scientifically accurate versions of dinosaurs. But since we’ll never truly know what a specific dinosaur looked like in real life, and what is scientifically accurate now might not necessarily be so in 10 years of continued research, I personally prefer an accurate version of a movie dino over a scientifically accurate dino that still might look very different from the real deal.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  6 месяцев назад

      Well it's all down to personal preference of course. I like that each model is scientifically accurate as at time of production, and when I look back at my old Carnegies, I appreciate them as a snapshot of what was known back then. But for the case of movie accuracy, you of course have the advantage of permanence! At least, unless they rebooted and came up with new movie versions of old movie dinos! 🙂

    Inaccuracies aside, I’ll probably get one to create a family diorama with a Tamiya pre-built Brachiosaurus I found on eBay. Both seem to have similar inaccuracies. The Tamiya kit would be easy to resculpt around the poorly realized feet but I’m not sure I want to go that route with the Nanmu Brachiosaurus.
    Still a very nice figure for the price.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад

      Excellent! That Tamiya Brachiosaurus is a classic and still mighty impressive. Sadly I have zero skill to do a kit and then paint it up, but I have seen what my friend did, and I would say that's still a Brachiosaurus that will have a presence in any collection. Good find!

    • @thomasmonroe7947
      @thomasmonroe7947 2 года назад

      @@DinosDragons yeah, I had planned on a large generational diorama with a trio of adult brachiosaurus that would have portrayed a scene of walking/browsing animals in a forest scene including sub-adults and juveniles with the standing Nanmu Brachiosaurus as a center point.
      The Tamiya kit will need a complete repaint but it wasn’t done well to begin with. If it ever comes to fruition, I’ll send you a pic.
      Have a great day.

    Absolute unit of a figure, and so beautiful too. Loving the comparison with the Giraffatitan! (also that scene of the Brachio on the jetty has stuck with me ever since...)
    Just a thought, would you be interested in showing more comparisons between figures of the same scale? e.g. this Brachiosaurus and the Giraffatitan next to, say, PNSO's Biber & Rook, or Eofauna's Giganotosaurus (1:35) - would be so nice to see how they scaled with each other (:

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад +1

      I do that for related dinosaurs, and also with dinosaurs that I am sure most people would have. Hence in many videos I use PNSO's 2020 Wilson 😁 But if I had done more comparisons the video would have been inordinatel long. I'll consider doing that in future, especially since the EoFauna Giganotosaurus is within easy reach! Thanks for the suggestion!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 года назад +1

      It really depends on what your preferences are. For me, I will only buy scientifically accurate dinosaurs as a rule. So when I buy a Nanmu JP-style dinosaur, it's purely because of my want to have a JP-link. That being the case, I chose this Grey one since it was in the movie and the one sad scene in JWFK, and I already was going to get the original brown in the standing version. The new version looks nice, but doesn't serve the significance I would buy a Nanmu for.
      If you have no special reason for wanting to get this, perhaps you can consider just going with the colour scheme you like best! 😊
