I grew up in Sydney and I used to drive over the Harbour Bridge every day going to work. It never got old. Every morning I'd feel so lucky to grow up in Sydney. Always made me feel good.
I'm so glad you're both enjoying our beautiful city. Manly by ferry is definitely an amazing day. I live in Balmain and catch the ferry to work in the CBD every day. Sydney is truly one of the most stunning cities in the world
As a sydney local who has travelled to the corners of the world and Australia, Sydney still takes my breath away. Im so lucky to call this place home. Gread video guys. Enjoy.
Yeah mate, I grew up in Sydney, I've travelled all over the world, but when the plane's coming into Sydney, and I see the Bridge out the left window I'm always glad to be home.
I absolutely love the enthusiasm you guys have for travel. And it makes me proud that you like Sydney and Australia…..Welcome!….enjoy your time with us….I hope we treat you well.
as kids we jumped in the surf like that every day in summer . we didnt realise how lucky we were . i lived at cronulla and we had 5 beaches to choose from.
Manly certainly is beautiful. I'm glad you had such a nice day. I've always told my children that they should be grateful that they were born in Australia. We're very privileged to live here.
Thanks for showing off our amazing country. I immigrated here from England in 1965 aged 22yrs old and have never looked back. Through hard work and having been given the opportunity to dream of a better life, I have now lived on the northern beaches for 45 plus years. My three sons, all born in Australia, have also benefited from this wonderful country I now call home. Good luck to you in your travels and stay safe. By the way, I have spent many years swimming and catching waves on the beach called Queenscliff which is just what the other end of Manly beach is called. (useless trivia for ya 😋)
It’s the harbour, not the river. When you go under the bridge and move further inland away from the coast, you travel along the Parramatta River, which ends in a weir at the City of Parramatta, the second oldest settlement in Australia.
I think some of the nicest beaches in Sydney are in the national parks. They often require a hike to get to but are much more secluded and surrounded by bush and wildlife.
I live in Manly so I particularly enjoyed this episode. Manly has always been a tourist destination, in the 1920's the ferry company of the era promoted Manly as “Seven miles from Sydney and a thousand miles from care”. In the past it was people from country NSW enjoying an ocean holiday, now of course it's both day trippers and internationals tourists. I also scuba dive at Shelly Beach, it's a protected area for the sea life so the Eastern Blue Groper fish (they are a Wrasse species) love hanging out with the visitors.
We went to Manly on the weekend. Just wish there was more shade as it's too hot in Summer. Try the ferry to Watson's Bay. Picnic at the park. A cliff walk and ice cream. The views will wow you. 😊😊
So glad you came to the Manly, the gateway to the Northern Beaches, best beaches in Sydney. I was born here, moved to Randwick in the 70s and lived there for 38 years, then moved back to Freshwater where I grew up. You are right, it's paradise, so close to the city but so different. People here are very friendly, beaches are great, a relaxed lifestyle.. Perfect. 😊
I was in England earlier in the year. The fish and chips were terrible. The chips were so-so, but the fish was flavourless - cod - horrible. If you get the chance, get flathead fillets - delicious!
the ferry you caught to Manly was the Fred Hollows. What an incredible doctor! He worked with remote & poor communities who were terribly affected with eye problems. He treated them, and the Fred Hollows Foundation was born. Please have a little explore on his work and legacy. An outstanding and compassionate Australian.
The side streets off the Corso have loads of bars and restaurants and various shops. You picked a great day for the Ferry harbour ride to and from Manly. Best ferry ride in the world across the most beautiful natural harbour! Manly..7 miles from Sydney and a thousand miles from care! Lived there for some years, love loved it.
Oh but it is such a heart achingly beautiful city at times. My daily commute into work is by ferry across the harbour and it never fails to bring me peace.
Get off at Milsons point station for Luna park (theme park) / lavender bay garden. Even can walk to balls head and do that loop via the back streets if you were fit. Used to run it occasionally during lunch 😅
St Patricks College was a priest accomadation .In fact when you walk down Bower lane all the land on the right hand side is owned by the catholic church and the house owners are on a 99year lease Glad you enjoyed Manly I live on the hill below the sunset as you were just leaving the wharf .We all take it for granted .So its good to see someone get excited
I was wondering if someone was going to mention St Patrick’s. My grandmother had a unit in Kensington, which faced St Paul’s, the other major Catholic seminary in Sydney. Both are incredibly amazing buildings.
It’s so nice to see you enjoying your time in Sydney, we all enjoy watching as a family. As you enjoy walks I’d love to recommend the north side of the harbour walks from Kirribilli to Mosman to Clifton Gardens to Balmoral Beach to Manly (all a big part of the Bondi to Manly walk), particularly the section from Cremorne Point to Bradley’s Head (near Taronga Zoo) to Balmoral Beach. You can access these walks easily by ferry or bus. You will feel like you are in another world of peace but right on the harbour as well as having so many beautiful historic homes. The Boathouse at Balmoral is the best place for lunch. You are seated right over the water. In Manly you can get incredible fish and chips at the 16ft skiff club on the east side of Manly Cove and sit on their deck watching the ferries as you enjoy. If you are driving, Freshwater/Curl Curl coastline has great swimming baths and also Harbord Diggers Club where you can sit facing the ocean in their beer garden. Great spot that is also on a beautiful coastal walk up the northern beaches. The B-line bus (double decker yellow express bus) goes from Wynyard to the Northern Beaches. It stops at beautiful Collaroy Beach where there is a highly recommended pie shop on the main road - Upper Crust Pies. The northern beaches have my vote as the best! Palm Beach area is beautiful as it has ocean on one side and Pittwater on the other. From the Pittwater side you can also get a ferry to the beautiful Central Coast and Hawkesbury locations. Ps - when you go back to the Rocks check out the Hero Of Waterloo pub, one of the oldest and best. It’s on the west side of the Argyll Cut near the Garrison Church. You walked past the street that takes you there in the other video. Loving your adventures, Welcome to lovely Sydney!
Oh I just thought you’d also like to know while the big building on the hill at Manly is a College these days it used to be St Patrick’s Seminary. A very Irish place to be sure! We went there for a school excursion once and they have an exhibit of real Roman graffiti carved into stone from the earliest Christian days.
Loving your commentary and views of Sydney - where I was born and bred. It's nice to get an outsider's view of it. Another place to check out is the South Coast. Either drive down or take a cheap train to Kiama (main town) and Gerringong and Gerroa. Great fish and chips, huge pelicans, part fishing port, part beaches with great walks
One of my fav Sydney day trips! Love the ferry ride, love the harbour, love the fish and chips! But you gotta keep em in the bag, those seagulls are chip assassins, and I have seen them steal fish right out of unsuspecting peoples hands. Well done catching the sunset ferry. Memories I know will be with you for years to come ❤
Brings back memories of the unique smell of the ferries. You should have had a pint at the Stein Hotel. Go to Palm Beach and catch the ferry to Patonga Beach.
You really need to go out to the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. There is a lot to do in different villages throughout the mountains as well as bushwalking on the tracks, you can catch the trains or drive, it's worth spending a few days & explore the area between Springwood and Mt Victoria. If your time is limited at least go to Katoomba & Leura.
Oh, Bluewater Cafe is such a good restaurant! Freshly shucked oysters with the sea breeze and a glass of bubbly or an ice-cold beer. Perfection. The food is great there. The Mexican place has an upstairs balcony area where you can have dinner overlooking the ocean too. Not as expensive as you'd expect as well.
You guys need to catch the train out to Katoomba and visit the blue mountains world heritage listed nature , ablut hour and a half from Sydney on the train you’d love it
My father was in construction, he & my uncle helped to construct that hotel that faces Manly Beach..And this is why I would never leave Sydney 😎😎 That amusement Park is called LUNA PARK
The old tourist slogan was "Manly 7 Miles from Sydney 1000 Miles from care" my beautiful home ❤ (many of us locals are priced out now too popular) glad you enjoyed our paradise 😊
I often tell visitors to Sydney go on the ferry, it's like an economy harbour cruise. But I keep forgetting it's a commuter service that goes from point A to point B as fast as possible and literally has right of way over all other vessels on the harbour. Still worth it though.
Go up to Shelly beach and to the boat house to a bite u won’t regret the food there, also come on a weekend yes it’s busy but u get to come to the manly markets on a Saturday and Sunday
I’m from Worthing in Sussex and arrived in Manly in 1978. I never thought how lucky I must be until I saw how much you two loved it here! What an idiot I am - time to get out on my bike more and have some fish and chips in the sun and surf - thanks!
Mado and Glen, as you travel to Australia, you will find each and every place visited has it's own unique beauty and personality. OK, not everyone likes everywhere but take time to really look and see the differences. You will be amazed, just like NZ, amazing.
You should have got on the stern of the ferry, heaps less wind. The Turkey is not something you would eat at Xmas. Its a wild native bush turkey only found in Australia.
I live in Brisbane and just got back from a weeks holiday in Manly 2 days ago. I lived there as a child and try to get back regularly for my nostalgia fix. If I won the Lotto I'd move back in a heartbeat.
That turkey wasn't a real turkey, it was an Australian native bird called a "scrub turkey", "brush turkey" etc. They vaguely resemble turkeys, but aren't closely related to turkeys at all. Scrub turkeys have an unusual way of incubating their eggs, which is worth looking up and reading about. They used to be elusive and pretty uncommon back when we used to shoot and eat them, but they have flourished and become bold since they were protected. And they spread into the suburbs of cities when people started planting native plants and using mulch. You spread mulch around under your shrubs, then the wretched brush turkeys come along and scrape it all together to make incubation mounds.
I used to live in Manly and commute into Sydney City every day for work. It was a great place to live. There were no waves the day you were there bit it is a surf beach - so usually waves. ❤❤
Back in the day, waaay back, my grandmother used to catch the Manly Ferry during high seas. Usually a Southerly Buster will kick up the swell and the ferry would be diving and copping green water over the bow. She - loved - it. I would suggest my old stomping ground. Kurnell, Cronulla, Port Hacking and Royal National Park. Also, if you want to pat tame wildlife, Symbio Wildlife Park is a relatively small outfit, but very well run.
Catching the ferry to Watsons Bay for lunch at the pub and views of the heads is beautiful too. The beautiful college and all that land was owned by the Catholic Church and was where priests were trained $$$. If you get the opportunity a trip down the coast to Kiama/Gerrigong area makes for a great weekend.
Glad to enjoyed Manly on a perfect day. If you want more beautiful harbour views, I’d highly recommend you do the Taronga to Balmoral walk. Take a ferry from the Quay to Taronga Zoo Wharf, when you exit the wharf turn right and there’s a trail marked. It’s a fairly easy walk that hugs the Harbour foreshore. Remember to take your swimming cosies for a dip at Balmoral Beach where there’s a great fish and chip (burgers, etc) shop. To end your day, catch a bus back to Sydney CBD. I’ve done the walk many times and the views are spectacular! Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Wentworth falls loop is ideal. So can see Wentworth and empress falls. And if you have a car (essential if not wanting to use a bus) go see three sisters and scenic railway like every other tourist. Sublime point lookout is good for sunset.
A tip on the opal cards, use your debit card and it’s way cheaper I use it and the buses are 1$ no matter how far you go or where and cheaper for trains and ferries I’ve found
You should check out the fish markets. You also have some great walks around the harbour. There are national parks to visit. North head where Manly is has a good spot to look around, they filmed Mission Impossible there with the stunts they did on the bikes back in 2000.
😢8 years ago left my beautiful city to retire into the country. Changed so much since then. Thank you for showing my home. Miss it but can not afford it.🫠
Shelly is awesome, I do the Shelly to Many Bold and Beautiful swim most mornings. What a great way to go to work with the smell of seawater in your hair. Shellys’s also a great place for a snorkel!
The original private ferry company, the Port Jackson & Manly Steamship Company, had a slogan, "Seven miles from Sydney, a thousand miles from care". I'm a Manlyite and I can tell you it is definitely correct. Glad you enjoyed the ferry and Manly.
Glen, sea water takes 6 months to “warm up”. It has nothing to do with the ambient weather. Other than more tropical climates in Queensland where it can be fairly consistent.
Those buildings you were asking about whilst waiting on the ferry at Circular Quay, that glass one you pointed at is where I used to work when I finished high school for a few years before leaving Syd. That's Quay Grand Suites and the open balcony is the ECQ Bar open to the public. That's a hotel but also private residence for super rich folk on the top floors and building next to it is an office block actually. Last time you were in Syd you guys walked right under it when you did the botanical gardens and Opera house walk :) I'm love this country, it truly IS one of the best and most diverse countries in the world both culturally and environmentally. You are going to LOVE your time here! I hope you get to travel all the states, they are all so different, especially Tassie. Work is plentiful too as you go along.
You can see LOADS of fish at Shelly. Low key one of the best snorkelling spots in NSW. You get sting ray, fish, little sharks, turtles, and cuttlefish! It's stunning on a day with good visibility.
and fukn tiger sharks . i near got eaten by one early 80's was on the news n everything , a tow truck , n the surf patrol netted it and brought it up on the beach , needless to say , ive never swam in the ocean again lol .
Best way to eat fish and chips , fresh and on the beach, hope to get over there again but we always end up in the pubs and cozzie clubs yep take the train from the Meriton to my sister's place then walk to the Mortdale pub....good times thanks for your videos the only time I get to see the outside of the walls of these clubs.
You donated again! thanks again for your generosity :) everything helps us to continue travelling your great country :) need to set up a donation page as youtube takes a 30percent cut which is mental.
You travelled to manly in the right way and as much as Sydney is a very modern city and lifestyle, we still hold true to our need for nature and the beach life.
I arrived in Sydney 31 years ago - 1993 - and Sydney has been my home ever since. I've travelled to 25 countries, maybe a hundred cities, I've not found one better than Sydney. Prague, where I lived for two months is probably my second choice.
Ride ALL the Ferries ALL over the harbour and up the river, to the islands some of which you can stay on overnight. My favourite is the Mosman ferry. Trains to Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Gosford. They are a bargain and you will get to see spectacular scenery. All cheap as chips. Take the big Manly ferries at night and watch the seagulls flying next to you in the glow of the cabin lights. Catch the ferries back at dusk to Circular Quay and watch all the skyscreapers light up, and the Botanical Garden bats fly overhead to their roosts out west. If you can time the Manly ferry with moon rise between The Heads, check your calendar, it makes a spectacular photo.
Manly is popular only due to quick easy access by ferry for the tourists and easy walks. Its a beautiful trip over by ferry. Highly recommended for anyone visiting wanting a glimpse of Sydney. Otherwise Manly is just an average ocean beach by Sydney standards....a bit crowded for most locals. For the overseas fishermen out there, those waters out to sea contain Black, Striped and Blue Marlin, Short Billed Spearfish, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Y/Fin and Bluefin Tuna, plus Mako/White/Tiger/Bull/Hammerhead/Blue/Bronze Whaler sharks. Sydney is also a fishermans paradise from the land for a feed. Its a beautiful city. U seem a lovely couple. Hope u enjoyed your stay.
Sydney is truly one of the most stunning cities in the world
I recommend you spend a couple of days exploring the beaches from Manly to Palm beach they just keep getting better
@aldunlop4622 yep there's no feeling like that one. Especially when you hear the aussie accent at the airport! So comforting.
I absolutely love the enthusiasm you guys have for travel. And it makes me proud that you like Sydney and Australia…..Welcome!….enjoy your time with us….I hope we treat you well.
We use to walk from Many to Shelly beach all the time, we even named our dog ‘Shelly’ as it’s such a beautiful spot.
Such a magical place :) Good name also!
as kids we jumped in the surf like that every day in summer . we didnt realise how lucky we were .
i lived at cronulla and we had 5 beaches to choose from.
Manly certainly is beautiful. I'm glad you had such a nice day. I've always told my children that they should be grateful that they were born in Australia. We're very privileged to live here.
Me too. My kids just eye roll but I know they will understand one day.

You're amazing country. Lol you're a pommie
Great video; thank you. One big mistake!!! You didn't try the Chicken salt on your chips>>>. Once you do you'll never go back back.
I thought the same!!!😩💖💔
I'm an Aussie and I just have normal Salt.. not salt with artificial chicken flavouring 😅
@@damianmcwilliams2371 I’m with you Damian Don’t know why people rave about that artificial flavour ,it’s just the same as two minute noodles.
Hate chicken salt! Often shops in Sydney put it on chips without asking. Where I am from in Adelaide they always ask.
@beautifully_wonderfullymade I'm from Sydney and they have always asked me?..I would take take them back if they put chicken salt on my chips
Thank you Glen and Mado for promoting the city I was born in, raised and of course, live in. Great stuff.
I lived in Sydney all my life and I'm still amazed by it's beauty. Best city in the world.
LOL the water dragon on the rock at 11:18
Getting the ferry at night time is stunning as well. Probably my favourite thing to do besides a few day beers in the Rocks.
LOVE glens commentary . love mado , full stop , lol she seems a bit suss about everything but loves it in the end . enjoy guys .
It’s the harbour, not the river.

Take a day trip to Katoomba in the Blue Mtns guys, You can take the country train from Central station which takes about an hour 40 mins.
Years ago back in 2000 some friends and I drove to manly on a weekend to play beach volleyball during summer. Good times.
I was in England earlier in the year. The fish and chips were terrible. The chips were so-so, but the fish was flavourless - cod - horrible. If you get the chance, get flathead fillets - delicious!
As one born & bred in Sydney it’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm of tourists that reminds you of how beautiful Sydney is%
you got that right and I'm glad your enjoying life to the fullest :)

7 miles

Glen and Mado if your still here in NSW for the new year , be on the harbour to see the amazing fireworks , it’s pretty spectacular.
The Manly ferry is a great Sydney experience. But you should have tried flathead or snapper for your fish n chips
Half a flat head deep fried with little batter and chips is my must have @ Manly 😋 unfortunately most places now only serve flat head strips.
I used to live in Manly and commute into Sydney City every day for work. It was a great place to live. There were no waves the day you were there bit it is a surf beach - so usually waves. ❤❤
ferry ride to Manly a must , best view of the harbour.. it sparkles
As I recall, this is exactly what I suggested you do in the comments of your first Sydney video. Well done!
You got that right! We had an awesome time 🙌

The water is warmer during summer . Enjoy Manly !
It must be crazy for these guys thinking it's not even summer yet!
Enjoying your videos thanks guys. If you follow the coast north from Manly you will find at least ten more beaches similar to manly.
Manly Ben and Jerrys was Australias first store. Ben and Jerry opened it personally from the US.
Enjoy the rest of your trip.
nice to see you're enjoying your selvies
You both look Happy as Larry, great video x
Head for the Blue Mountains...The village/town of Leura and Katoomba for the scenic views ( our Grand Canyon)
Wentworth falls loop is ideal. So can see Wentworth and empress falls. And if you have a car (essential if not wanting to use a bus) go see three sisters and scenic railway like every other tourist. Sublime point lookout is good for sunset.
@@RefurbIshment-z7l Wentworth Falls is awesome...but Katoomba might be easier for them with public transport!
Last time we were there we bought Fish and Chips at Circular Quay in the evening and ate while taking the water taxi, beautiful place.
A tip on the opal cards, use your debit card and it’s way cheaper I use it and the buses are 1$ no matter how far you go or where and cheaper for trains and ferries I’ve found
Glen And Mado enjoy your trip in Australia.
Have more fun guys. Plenty of places to explore in Sydney.
Miss it but can not afford it.🫠
Fabulous video. Edited perfectly and a great advertisement for Manly and AUSTRALIA. You also picked the best seafood (fish and chip) shop in Manly.
Shelly is awesome, I do the Shelly to Many Bold and Beautiful swim most mornings. What a great way to go to work with the smell of seawater in your hair. Shellys’s also a great place for a snorkel!
Did the same thing back in July with my husband definitely worth doing if you're in Sydney for a weekend
U guys gotta do a day train trip to Katoomba. You'll love it
20 years living in Pyrmont (Darling Harbour) ferries, beaches, the high life, its been fun
Last time you were in Syd you guys walked right under it when you did the botanical gardens and Opera house walk :)
I'm love this country, it truly IS one of the best and most diverse countries in the world both culturally and environmentally.
Hey Shelly beach is a nice area! We used to go fishing around there for big Bull sharks.
and fukn tiger sharks . i near got eaten by one early 80's was on the news n everything , a tow truck , n the surf patrol netted it and brought it up on the beach , needless to say , ive never swam in the ocean again lol .
did i mention it was a 5 meter tiger shark ? lmao
I thought that area is a marine reserve: no fishing. Just checked. Shelly Beach is part of the Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve.
We’d been hangin’ out for your Aussie episodes to start. To see where has get to visit. Thanks guys - enjoy!
Gotta love a good Fishn’Chips 😋
Best way to eat fish and chips , fresh and on the beach, hope to get over there again but we always end up in the pubs and cozzie clubs yep take the train from the Meriton to my sister's place then walk to the Mortdale pub....good times thanks for your videos the only time I get to see the outside of the walls of these clubs.
Northern Beaches- best part of Sydney .
Now take the 199 from many wharf to Avalon & Palm Beach.
Thanks, have a coffee on me
You donated again! thanks again for your generosity :) everything helps us to continue travelling your great country :) need to set up a donation page as youtube takes a 30percent cut which is mental.
You travelled to manly in the right way and as much as Sydney is a very modern city and lifestyle, we still hold true to our need for nature and the beach life.
Your totally right, quite magical paul and its amazing that Australia enjoys the sea so much!
Well done, the Manly ferry is the best and cheapest tour of the harbour.
Oh I lived in Manly for years and it was BRILLIANT!! 💙💙💙💙
I haven’t been on a ferry since I was a kid , enjoy guys 💫🩷
If you are looking to compare fish and chips to back home Big Dave”s Chipper at Maroubra is popular with Irish locals.
You should check out the Coastal walk from Manly to Split Bridge , a 10k Walk - a beautiful walk with plenty spot to stop and take a dip.
Manly's a very busy place during the Christmas school holidays. The Steyne Hotel is great for a beer after the beach!
