    20 years ago I had a 1983 honda GL650 silverwing interstate, full hard baggage, passenger seat. NEVER should have sold that bike. Now I'm looking for another, probably never find the same style. Great bike, I learned on it.

    Started out on a '78 CX500 in '86, had a CX500D and a GL500. I moved on over time, but they were fun bikes for their days.

    I used to have an '82 Silver Wing... ex-girlfriend was very upset when I traded it in for a BMW R65 LS... Very comfortable ride for rider & passenger; took to the freeways well; one of the bikes I've had that I should've kept... Whenever I hear the sound of a CX500, I think of the"GL" I had, and sigh...The transverse V engine.. the sound of it... the way it handled the road... (Yeah; 20-20 hindsight kickin' in...)

    LOVE these bikes! I have a '81 GL500 that is absolutely among my favorite bikes that I've ever owned. Great little machine!

    Beautiful motorcycle. You would never need more bike than that.

    Love this bike, now we're spoiled with so many high horsepower cruisers. Friend of mine rode a 50-55 HP bike to different states with no issues. I'm spoiled I drive a '99 Valkyrie.

      It really is a touring bike. For a cafe racer, get a CX500.

    Second owner of a CX500 , only transportation for years ,finally got a car and only used it for grocery store runs and driving to work on rainy days. Tires ,oil and gas was only thing you had to spend money on. Unbelievable dependably

    A good hyper reliable touring bike, moderate weight, low seat height.. and about the best weather protection I have ever found in a motorcycle. Well engineered bags, and fairing. Put the best tires you can find on it.. and don't over inflate the suspension. Luckily the rear has an over pressure relief valve.. which saved my bacon.. but really.. don't blow it up !

    Those original bars are awful! I swapped mine with Goldwing bars and absolutely love them, so much better! They are great bikes.

    They are nice bikes but with the Interstate name you'd think they would have geared them for actual interstate use, that poor engine screams at 70 mph.

    • @awuma
      @awuma 3 года назад

      Passes the semis fine at 80 mph :-) The 1983 650cc version is supposed to have slightly better ratios. I think I had mine nudging up to 90mph (it was just like this one). Terrific bike. PS: I can confirm that the GL650I has better ratios... 4th gear is like the 5th gear on the 500, and 5th gear is good.
