  • The Realistic RD-8100 is identical to the Hitachi PS-48 as they are both manufactured by CEC. We will give this a service.

    Nice that the speed is stable and 33.3 and 45.0. Nice entry level table. No crappy belt running at 34.3

    The cardboard is a grease holding shim/spacer. Seen washers like that. It won't wear out if serviced, but who's looking for that. Good job.

    I had the Realistic 440 and another Realistic auto player but can't remember the number then i got my 1200 mk5 technics. Nice turntable.

      I had the Realistic LAB-400 and in 2020 replace his original Realistic/Shure R1000E cartridge with a brand new Audio Technics AT-VM95E.
      I'm happy with it, a very high quality turntable and I don't need to get any Technics direct-drive models.

    Good video. I do have to disagree with the use of a razor blade on metal when a soak in alcohol works just fine.

    Ahh, real pretty about the D5 lost footage, I've always wanted someone to do a restore on that model, oh well, maybe another one will come up - they're kinda rare ...

    That reminds me of my MCS 6500 / Hitachi HT-250. Same controls but no decorative switch plate.

      CEC made a ton of tables back in the day.

    I noticed you're in Canada. Anywhere near Niagara Falls? I need a Harman Kardon Rabco ST8 serviced for electronic issues, mechanically it's perfect.

    What an apparent terrible design idea to use a cardboard spacer! Love your videos.

    Great videos....addicted watching them👍 I have an Hitachi PS-48 that I love so much I traded in my Rega 3. Recently I noticed the trackingforce dial at the end of the tonearm is stripped...I think? Every time I turn it it does not catch and I keep turning it. I don't want to keep doing it because I think it is stripping it more? Saw a dial on ebay and not sure if i should order it....pretty expensive. Looking in the dial I can't tell if it is stripped inside....thoughts?
    Keep up the great work on your channel👍

      It shouldn't be stripped. Try removing the counterweight - just unscrew it and pull it off. Perhaps the shaft needs cleaning.

      @@TurntableGuy Have changed a bunch cartridges in the past and never had this problem with this TT? It's like if I am at 12:00 and turn to 3:00 it moves back to 2:00....like elastic inside as it does not turn without moving back if that makes sense? It takes forever to find the correct VTF with the counterweight because it keeps moving back and forth! I wiped down the tonearm and cleaned the counterweight but it is still doing this and just started this about 3 months ago....bummed because you could probably look at it in 5 seconds and see what I'm talking about....argh!
      Sorry for the long email...keep up the great work on your channel👍

      @@mccarthyd6603if the cart is heavy and not compatible with the tone arm you can add a bit of weight to the end of the tone arm. If it is too light the weight will sit too far forward and run out of adjustment. In this case add weight to the cart / headshell. Ortofon had brass inserts for this purpose.

    Paper gaskets on moving metal parts --eeesh?? I'm sure CEC could have come up with some better bushing

    I wonder if you left the cardboard out if it would work without it - similar to a BSR mechanism?

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  Год назад

      The cardboard also acts as a filler to keep the trip mechanism in the line of the peg that travels with the arm. If the cardboard wasn't there, gravity would pull the trip down and it would miss the peg.

    The 3-In-1 oil for electric motors isn't available in Mexico.
    Can we use Singer sewing machine oil or Zoom Spout All-Purpose Oil?

    • @TurntableGuy

      Yes to Singer. Never heard of the other one.

    Why wouldn't you just trace that little piece onto another piece of cardboard and make your own?

    • @TurntableGuy
      @TurntableGuy  Год назад +1

      Because these are quick flip jobs for a dealer. But, that is a good idea, although finding the correct thickness of cardboard would be tricky.
